Abstract:In this paper, we first prove the strong Birkhoff Ergodic Theorem for subharmonic functions with the irrational shift on the Torus. Then, we apply it to the analytic quasi-periodic Jacobi cocycles and show that for suitable frequency and coupling number, if the Lyapunov exponent of these cocycles is positive at one point, then it is positive on an interval centered at this point and Hölder continuous in \begin{document}$ E $\end{document} on this interval. What's more, if the coupling number of the potential is large, then the Lyapunov exponent is always positive for all irrational frequencies and Hölder continuous in \begin{document}$ E $\end{document} for all finite Liouville frequencies. For the Schrödinger cocycles, a special case of the Jacobi ones, its Lyapunov exponent is also Hölder continuous in the frequency and the lengths of the intervals where the Hölder condition of the Lyapunov exponent holds only depend on the coupling number.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish the quantitative mean ergodic theorems for two subclasses of power bounded operators on a fixed noncommutative L p space with 1 < p < ∞ , which mainly concerns power bounded invertible operators and Lamperti contractions. Our approach to the quantitative ergodic theorems relies on noncommutative square function inequalities. The establishment of the latter involves several new ingredients such as the almost orthogonality and Calderón-Zygmund arguments for non-smooth kernels from semi-commutative harmonic analysis, the extension properties of the operators under consideration from operator theory, and a noncommutative version of the classical transference method due to Coifman and Weiss.

Abstract:We establish weak-type (1, 1) bounds for the maximal function associated with ergodic averaging operators modeled on a wide class of thin deterministic sets B . As a corollary we obtain the corresponding pointwise convergence result on . This contributes yet another counterexample for the conjecture of Rosenblatt and Wierdl from 1991 asserting the failure of pointwise convergence on of ergodic averages along arithmetic sets with zero Banach density. The second main result is a multiparameter pointwise ergodic theorem in the spirit of Dunford and Zygmund along B on , , which is derived by establishing uniform oscillation estimates and certain vector-valued maximal estimates.

Abstract:Using the error bound results established in the present paper for approximate solutions, we study the stability issues when perturbed by possibly nonaffine smooth maps E for the abstract inequality system F >=(K) 0 defined by a (possible nonclosed) convex cone K and a Frechet differentiable function F satisfying the (extended) weak gamma-condition. We provide some sufficient conditions, in terms of the information at a solution x(0), for ensuring the lower semicontinuity and/or the Lipschitz-like continuity at x(0) of the solution mapping for the perturbed system F + E >=(K) 0 with smooth perturbation E. Explicit upper bounds of the Lipschitz-like moduli are also provided.

Abstract:We introduce a class of integral theorems based on cyclic functions and Riemann sums approximating integrals. The Fourier integral theorem, derived as a combination of a transform and inverse transform, arises as a special case. The integral theorems provide natural estimators of density functions via Monte Carlo methods. Assessment of the quality of the density estimators can be used to obtain optimal cyclic functions, alternatives to the sin function, which minimize square integrals. Our proof techniques rely on a variational approach in ordinary differential equations and the Cauchy residue theorem in complex analysis.

Pointwise ergodic theorems along fractional powers of primes

Abstract:We establish pointwise convergence for nonconventional ergodic averages taken along $\lfloor p^c\rfloor$, where $p$ is a prime number and $c\in(1,4/3)$ on $L^r$, $r\in(1,\infty)$. In fact, we consider averages along more general sequences $\lfloor h(p)\rfloor$, where $h$ belongs in a wide class of functions, the so-called $c$-regularly varying functions. We also establish uniform multiparameter oscillation estimates for our ergodic averages and the corresponding multiparameter pointwise ergodic theorem in the spirit of Dunford and Zygmund. A key ingredient of our approach are certain exponential sum estimates, which we also use for establishing a Waring-type result. Assuming that the Riemann zeta function has any zero-free strip upgrades our exponential sum estimates to polynomially saving ones and this makes a conditional result regarding the behavior of our ergodic averages on $L^1$ to not seem entirely out of reach.

Pointwise ergodic theorem for locally countable quasi-pmp graphs

Abstract:We prove a pointwise ergodic theorem for quasi-probability-measure-preserving (quasi-pmp) locally countable measurable graphs, equivalently, Schreier graphs of quasi-pmp actions of countable groups. For ergodic graphs, the theorem gives an increasing sequence of Borel subgraphs with finite connected components over which the averages of any $L^1$ function converges to its expectation. This implies that every (not necessarily pmp) locally countable ergodic Borel graph on a standard probability space contains an ergodic hyperfinite subgraph. A consequence of this is that every ergodic treeable equivalence relation has an ergodic hyperfinite free factor. The pmp case of the main theorem was first proven by R. Tucker-Drob using a deep result from probability theory. Our proof is different: it is self-contained and applies more generally to quasi-pmp graphs. Among other things, it involves introducing a graph invariant concerning asymptotic averages of functions and a method of tiling a large part of the space with finite sets with prescribed properties. The non-pmp setting additionally exploits a new quasi-order called visibility to analyze the interplay between the Radon--Nikodym cocycle and the graph structure, providing a sufficient condition for hyperfiniteness.

Pointwise Weyl Laws for Quantum Completely Integrable Systems

Abstract:The study of the asymptotics of the spectral function for self-adjoint, elliptic differential, or more generally pseudodifferential, operators on a compact manifold has a long history. The seminal 1968 paper of Hörmander, following important prior contributions by Gärding, Levitan, Avakumović, and Agmon-Kannai (to name only some), obtained pointwise asymptotics (or a "pointwise Weyl law") for a single elliptic, self-adjoint operator. Here, we establish a microlocalized pointwise Weyl law for the joint spectral functions of quantum completely integrable (QCI) systems, $\overline{P}=(P_1,P_2,\dots, P_n)$, where $P_i$ are first-order, classical, self-adjoint, pseudodifferential operators on a compact manifold $M^n$, with $\sum P_i^2$ elliptic and $[P_i,P_j]=0$ for $1\leq i,j\leq n$. A particularly important case is when $(M,g)$ is Riemannian and $P_1=(-\Delta)^\frac12$. We illustrate our result with several examples, including surfaces of revolution.

Quasi-ergodic theorems for Feynman-Kac semigroups and large deviation for additive functionals

Abstract:We study the long-time behavior of an additive functional that takes into account the jumps of a symmetric Markov process. This process is assumed to be observed through a biased observation scheme that includes the survival to events of extinction and the Feynman-Kac weight by another similar additive functional. Under conditioning for the convergence to a quasi-stationary distribution and for two-sided estimates of the Feynmac-Kac semigroup to be obtained, we shall discuss general assumptions on the symmetric Markov process. For the law of additive functionals, we will prove a quasi-ergodic theorem, namely a conditional version of the ergodic theorem and a conditional functional weak law of large numbers. As an application, we also establish a large deviation principle for the mean ratio of additive functionals.

Quantitative equidistribution of eigenfunctions for toral Schrödinger operators

Abstract:We prove a quantum ergodicity theorem in position space for the eigenfunctions of a Schrödinger operator $-\Delta+V$ on a rectangular torus $\mathbb{T}^2$ for $V\in L^2(\mathbb{T}^2)$ with an algebraic rate of convergence in terms of the eigenvalue. A key application of our theorem is a quantitative equidistribution theorem for the eigenfunctions of a Schrödinger operator whose potential models disordered systems with $N$ obstacles. We prove the validity of this equidistribution theorem in the limit, as $N\to\infty$, under the assumption that a weak overlap hypothesis is satisfied by the potentials modeling the obstacles, and we note that, when rescaling to a large torus (such that the density remains finite, as $N\to\infty$) this corresponds to a size decaying regime, as the coupling parameter in front of the potential will decay, as $N\to\infty$. We apply our result to Schrödinger operators modeling disordered systems on large tori $\mathbb{T}^2_L$ by scaling back to the fixed torus $\mathbb{T}^2$. In the case of random Schrödinger operators, such as random displacement models, we deduce an almost sure equidistribution theorem on certain length scales which depend on the coupling parameter, the density of the potentials and the eigenvalue. In particular, if these parameters converge to finite, nonzero values, we are able to determine at which length scale (as a function of these parameters) equidistribution breaks down. In this sense, we provide a lower bound for the Anderson localization length as a function of energy, coupling parameter and the density of scatterers.

Abstract:We prove a uniform vector-valued Wiener-Wintner Theorem for a class of operators that includes compositions of ergodic Koopman operators with contractive multiplication operators. Our results are new even in the case of complex-valued functions, as they also apply to some non-positive non-contractive operators, and they give new uniform pointwise theorems for ergodic, weakly mixing, and mildly mixing Koopman operators.

Abstract:A joint measure-preserving system is $(X, \mathcal{B}, \mu_{1}, \dots, \mu_{k}, T_{1}, \dots, T_{k})$, where each $(X, \mathcal{B}, \mu_{i}, T_{i})$ is a measure-preserving system and any $\mu_{i}$ and $\mu_{j}$ are mutually absolutely continuous probability measures. Such a system is called pointwise jointly ergodic if, for any set of bounded measurable functions $f_{1}, \dots, f_{k}$ on $X$, the multilinear ergodic average of their joint action under the transformations $T_{1}, \dots, T_{k}$ converges almost everywhere to the product of their integrals with respect to the corresponding measures. In this paper, we extend the classical Wiener-Wintner ergodic theorem to the setting of pointwise jointly ergodic systems with nilsequences weight. Additionally, we provide applications that include results on the mean convergence of weighted ergodic averages and the almost everywhere convergence of ergodic averages taken along subsequences of the form $\lfloor \alpha n \rfloor$, where $\alpha \geq 1$.

Weak mixing and sparse equidistribution

Abstract:The celebrated Birkhoff Ergodic Theorem asserts that, for an ergodic map, orbits of almost every point equidistributes when sampled at integer times. This result was generalized by Bourgain to many natural sparse subsets of the integers. On the other hand, the behaviour of orbits of \textbf{all} points in a dynamical system is much less understood, especially for sparse subsets of the integers. We generalize a method introduced by A. Venkatesh to tackle this problem in two directions, general $\mathbb{R}^d$ actions instead of flows, and weak mixing, rather than mixing, actions. Along the way, we also establish some basic properties of weak mixing and show weak mixing for the time 1-map of a weak mixing flow. The main examples are equidistribution along $\{(n^{1+\epsilon_i})_{i=1}^d\}$, which is a direct generalisation of Venkatesh's example, and equidistribution along random subsets of $\mathbb{Z}^d$ for horosperical action.

Quantum ergodicity for Eisenstein series on hyperbolic surfaces of large genus

Abstract:We give a quantitative estimate for the quantum mean absolute deviation on hyperbolic surfaces of finite area in terms of geometric parameters such as the genus, number of cusps and injectivity radius. It implies a delocalisation result of quantum ergodicity type for eigenfunctions of the Laplacian on hyperbolic surfaces of finite area that Benjamini-Schramm converge to the hyperbolic plane. We show that this is generic for Mirzakhani's model of random surfaces chosen uniformly with respect to the Weil-Petersson volume. Depending on the particular sequence of surfaces considered this gives a result of delocalisation of most cusp forms or of Eisenstein series.

Abstract:We derive new variants of the quantitative Borel--Cantelli lemma and apply them to analysis of statistical properties for some dynamical systems. We consider intermittent maps of $(0,1]$ which have absolutely continuous invariant probability measures. In particular, we prove that every sequence of intervals with left endpoints uniformly separated from zero is the strong Borel--Cantelli sequence with respect to such map and invariant measure.

Abstract:We prove a multidimensional ergodic theorem with weighted averages for the action of the group $\mathbb{Z}^d$ on a probability space. At level $n$ weights are of the form $n^{-d} \psi(j/n)$, $ j\in \mathbb{Z}^d$, for real functions $\psi$ decaying suitably fast. We discuss applications to random measures and to quenched stochastic homogenization of random walks (RWs) on simple point processes with long-range random jump rates, allowing to remove the technical Assumption (A9) from \cite[Theorem~4.4]{Fhom1}. This last result concerns also some semigroup and resolvent convergence particularly relevant for the derivation of the quenched hydrodynamic limit of interacting particle systems (IPSs) via homogenization and duality. As a consequence we show that also the quenched hydrodynamic limit of the symmetric simple exclusion process on point processes stated in \cite[Theorem~4.1]{F_SEP} remains valid when removing the above mentioned Assumption (A9).

The central limit theorems for integrable Hamiltonian systems perturbed by white noise

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the dynamics of integrable stochastic Hamiltonian systems. Utilizing the Nagaev-Guivarc'h method, we obtain several generalized results of the central limit theorem. Making use of this technique and the Birkhoff ergodic theorem, we prove that the invariant tori persist under stochastic perturbations. Moreover, they asymptotically follow a Gaussian distribution, which gives a positive answer to the stability of integrable stochastic Hamiltonian systems over time. Our results hold true for both Gaussian and non-Gaussian noises, and their intensities can be not small.

Abstract:Quantization of a toy model of a pseudointegrable Hamiltonian impact system is introduced, including EBK quantization conditions, a verification of Weyl's law, the study of their wavefunctions and a study of their energy levels properties. It is demonstrated that the energy levels statistics are similar to those of pseudointegrable billiards. Yet, here, the density of wavefunctions which concentrate on projections of classical level sets to the configuration space does not disappear at large energies, suggesting that there is no equidistribution in the configuration space in the large energy limit; this is shown analytically for some limit symmetric cases and is demonstrated numerically for some nonsymmetric cases.
