Abstract:We propose a q-deformed model of the anharmonic vibrations in diatomic molecules. We analyse the applicability of the model to the phenomenological Dunham's expansion by comparing with experimental data. Our methodology involves a global consistency analysis of the parameters that determine the q-deformed system, when compared with fitted vibrational parameters to 161 electronic states in diatomic molecules. We show how to include both the positive and the negative anharmonicities in a simple and systematic fashion.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is how to construct an algebraic framework that can include higher - order correction terms through quantum group symmetry in the anharmonic vibration of diatomic molecules, while maintaining the simplicity of the model and providing the Hamiltonian and the corresponding wave function. Specifically: 1. **Improving the existing model**: The existing Morse potential energy well describes the potential energy of diatomic molecules near the equilibrium position, but its energy eigenvalues only include quadratic correction terms, while the actual molecular vibration energy requires a higher - order Dunham expansion for accurate fitting. Therefore, the paper attempts to extend the Morse model by introducing the q - deformed Morse Hamiltonian so that it can better describe the anharmonic vibration of molecules. 2. **Establishing a theoretical framework**: Although the Dunham expansion is a convenient empirical method, it has no corresponding Hamiltonian and cannot provide the wave function of the vibration state. The goal of the paper is to construct an algebraic framework based on q - deformation, so that from this framework, an expression of molecular vibration energy similar to the Dunham expansion can be obtained, and at the same time, the wave function of the vibration state can also be provided. 3. **Verifying the validity of the model**: The paper tests the consistency and applicability of the model by comparing the series expansion of the q - deformed Morse energy expression with the experimental Dunham expansion data of a large number of diatomic molecules. In particular, the paper explores how to consider both positive and negative anharmonicities in the model and determines the relationship between the model parameters and the experimental data through global consistency analysis. In summary, the paper aims to provide a simple and accurate theoretical framework for the anharmonic vibration of diatomic molecules through the q - deformation method and verify its effectiveness and limitations in practical applications.
