Abstract:The little Higgs idea is a new way to solve the little hierarchy problem by protecting the Higgs mass from quadratically divergent one-loop corrections. In this talk I describe the phenomenology of one particular realization of the little Higgs idea: the "Littlest Higgs" model.

Abstract:This article reviews the Little Higgs models of electroweak symmetry breaking and their phenomenology. Little Higgs models incorporate a light composite Higgs boson and remain perturbative until a scale of order 10 TeV, as required by precision electroweak data. The collective symmetry breaking mechanism, which forms the basis of Little Higgs models, is introduced. An explicit, fully realistic implementation of this mechanism, the Littlest Higgs model, is then discussed in some detail. Several other implementations, including simple group models and models with T parity, are also reviewed. Precision electroweak constraints on a variety of Little Higgs models are summarized. If a Little Higgs model is realized in nature, the predicted new particles should be observable at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The expected signatures, as well as the experimental sensitivities and the possible strategies for confirming the Little Higgs origin of new particles, are discussed. Finally, several other related topics are briefly reviewed, including the ultraviolet completions of Little Higgs models, as well as the implications of these models for flavor physics and cosmology.

Abstract:A simple electronic circuit is described using four common and very inexpensive analog multiplexer/demultiplexer chips. These analog switches are used to select eight different wiring configurations to a van der Pauw sample. Several interfacing schemes to a PC are suggested. The van der Pauw resistivity and Hall voltage expressions are also summarized.

Abstract:Little Higgs models predict new gauge bosons, fermions and scalars at the TeV scale that stabilize the Higgs mass against quadratically divergent one-loop radiative corrections. We categorize the many little Higgs models into two classes based on the structure of the extended electroweak gauge group and examine the experimental signatures that identify the little Higgs mechanism in addition to those that identify the particular little Higgs model. We find that by examining the properties of the new heavy fermion(s) at the LHC, one can distinguish the structure of the top quark mass generation mechanism and test the little Higgs mechanism in the top sector. Similarly, by studying the couplings of the new gauge bosons to the light Higgs boson and to the Standard Model fermions, one can confirm the little Higgs mechanism and determine the structure of the extended electroweak gauge group.

Abstract:Little Higgs models address the hierarchy problem by identifying the SM Higgs doublet as pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons arising from global symmetries with collective breakings. These models are designed to address the little hierarchy problem up to a scale of Λ∼O(10) TeV . Consequently, these models necessitate an UV completion above this scale. On the other hand, conformal extensions of the Standard Model are intriguing because scales emerge as a consequence of dimensional transmutation. In this study, we present a unified framework in which the electroweak hierarchy problem is tackled through a conformal symmetry collectively broken around the TeV scale, offering an appealing UV completion for little Higgs models. Notably, this framework automatically ensures the presence of the required UV fixed points, eliminating the need for careful adjustments to the particle content of the theory. Moreover, this framework naturally addresses the flavor puzzles associated with composite or little Higgs models. Pseudo-Axions in Little Higgs Models

Abstract:In Little Higgs models, the Higgs mass is stabilized at the one-loop level by the mechanism of collective symmetry breaking. Typically, the basic ingredient of these models is a large(r) global symmetry group spontaneously broken at a scale of several TeV. The (light) Higgs appears as a Goldstone boson corresponding to a non-diagonal broken generator of this global symmetry. There could also be physical pseudoscalar particles present which belong to diagonal generators, having the properties of axions with masses in the range from several GeV up to the electroweak scale. We investigate the interesting phenomenology of these pseudo-axions at the linear collider as well as the photon collider.

Abstract:This Thesis is devoted to the study of the phenomenology of the Higgs sector of the minimal $B-L$ extension of the Standard Model at present and future colliders. Firstly, the motivations that call for the minimal $B-L$ extension are summarised. In addition, the model is analysed in its salient parts. Moreover, a detailed review of the phenomenological allowed Higgs sector parameter space is given. Finally, a complete survey of the distinctive Higgs boson signatures of the model at both the Large Hadron Collider and the future linear colliders is presented.

Simplest Little Higgs Revisited: Hidden Mass Relation, Unitarity and Naturalness

Abstract:We analyze the scalar potential of the Simplest Little Higgs (SLH) model in an approach consistent with the spirit of continuum effective field theory (CEFT). By requiring correct electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB) with the $125\,\text{GeV}$ Higgs boson, we are able to derive a relation between the pseudo-axion mass $m_\eta$ and the heavy top mass $m_T$, which serves as a crucial test of the SLH mechanism. By requiring $m_\eta^2>0$ an upper bound on $m_T$ can be obtained for any fixed SLH global symmetry breaking scale $f$. We also point out that an absolute upper bound on $f$ can be obtained by imposing partial wave unitarity constraint, which in turn leads to absolute upper bounds of $m_T\lesssim 19\,\text{TeV}, m_\eta\lesssim 1.5\,\text{TeV}$ and $m_{Z'}\lesssim 48\,\text{TeV}$. We present the allowed region in the three-dimensional parameter space characterized by $f,t_\beta,m_T$, taking into account the requirement of valid EWSB and the constraint from perturbative unitarity. We also propose a strategy of analyzing the fine-tuning problem consistent with the spirit of CEFT and apply it to the SLH. We suggest that the scalar potential and fine-tuning analysis strategies adopted here should also be applicable to a wide class of Little Higgs and Twin Higgs models, which may reveal interesting relations as crucial tests of the related EWSB mechanism and provide a new perspective on assessing their degree of fine-tuning.

Muon anomalous magnetic moment and the heavy photon in a little Higgs model

Abstract:In the Littlest Higgs model, we comprehensively study the phenomenology of the heavy photon A_H which is lightest, in most of the parameter space, among newly introduced heavy gauge bosons and top-like vector quark. Unexpected behavior is that lighter A_H suppresses the corrections to the electroweak precision observables. For the global symmetry breaking scale f~3TeV, the heavy photon can be light enough to be produced at the 500 GeV linear collider. Through the calculation of the one-loop correction to the muon anomalous magnetic moment, we show that even the light A_H with mass around 200 GeV results in the negligible contribution. This is consistent with the current inconclusive status of the theoretical calculation of the (g-2)_mu in the SM. The effects of the Littlest Higgs model on the process e+ e- -> mu+ mu- are also studied, which is one of the most efficient signals to probe the A_H.

Abstract:The Littlest Higgs model with T-parity (LHT) contains new sources of flavour and CP violation both in the quark and the lepton sector. They originate from the interactions of ordinary fermions with mirror fermions mediated by new gauge bosons: W_H, Z_H and A_H. The most spectacular departures from the Standard Model are found in K_L -> pi^0 nu {bar nu}, K^+ -> pi^+ nu {bar nu}, in the CP-asymmetry S_{psi phi} and in lepton flavour violating decays. In particular, the latter decays offer a clear distinction between the LHT model and the MSSM. We summarize the most interesting results of three extensive analyses of flavour physics in the LHT model.

Abstract:The inclusive process $\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{b}s\ensuremath{\gamma}$ is studied in the littlest Higgs model. The contributions arising from new particles are normally suppressed by a factor of ${O(v}^{2}{/f}^{2}).$ Because of the large uncertainties of experimental measurements and theoretical predictions, the model parameters can escape from the constraints of present experiments provided $f>~1\mathrm{TeV}.$

Abstract:In the little higgs scenario, several coupling constants are related to each other to guarantee the stability of the higgs boson mass at one-loop level. This relation is called the little higgs mechanism. We discuss how accurately the relation can be tested at future $e^+e^-$ colliders, with especially focusing on the top sector of the scenario using a method of effective lagrangian. In order to test the mechanism, it is important to measure the Yukawa coupling of the top partner. Higgs associated and threshold productions of the top partner are found to be the best processes for this purpose.

Abstract:We study the collider signatures of a T-odd gauge boson W-H pair production in the littlest Higgs model with T parity (LHT) at Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and Linear Collider (LC). At the LHC, we search for the W-H boson using its leptonic decay, i.e. pp -> WH+WH- -> A(H)A(H)l(+)nu(l)l'(-)(nu) over bar (l'), gives rise to a collider signature of l(+)l'(-) + is not an element of(T). We demonstrate that the LHC not only has a great potential of discovering the W-H boson in this channel, but also can probe enormous parameter space of the LHT. Because of four missing particles in the final state, one cannot reconstruct the mass of W-H at the LHC. But such a mass measurement can be easily achieved at the LC in the process of e(+)e(-)-> WH+WH--> A(H)A(H)W(+)W(-)-> A(H)A(H)jjjj.We present an algorithm of measuring the mass and spin of the W-H boson at the LC. Furthermore, we illustrate that the spin correlation between the W boson and its mother particle (W-H) can be used to distinguish the LHT from other new physics models.

Abstract:Little Higgs models often give rise to top partners beyond the minimal ones necessary for the cancellation of quadratic divergences. We review how this occurs and discuss the phenomenology of these exotic states. We emphasize the possible importance of new pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons in top partner decays. Indeed, cascade decays of exotic top partners may be the best way to discover these new bosons. We illustrate these points with a new Little Higgs construction based on an SO(10)/SO(5)^2 coset structure, which fills a gap in the model building literature. These observations motivate new search strategies for top partners at the LHC, including for final states with b-jets and a large multiplicity of electroweak bosons.

Abstract:We present the results of an extensive analysis of flavour physics in both quark and lepton sectors, in the Littlest Higgs model with T-parity (LHT). In the quark sector, we identify some interesting scenarios for new mirror quark masses and V_Hd mixing matrix that satisfy the existing experimental constraints from K and B physics and simultaneously allow large New Physics effects in rare decays and CP-violating observables. In the lepton sector, where flavour violation in the Standard Model is highly suppressed by small neutrino masses, LHT effects turn out to be naturally huge and could be seen in the near future measurements of lepton flavour violating decays.

Abstract:There is a recent proposal identifying the Higgs particle of the Standard Model as a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson. This new broken symmetry introduces new particles and new interactions. Among these new interactions a central role to get a new physics is played by two new heavy neutral gauge bosons. We have studied the two new neutral currents in the Littlest Higgs model and compared with other extended models. For high energy e+e- colliders we present a clear signature for these two new neutral gauge bosons that can indicate the theoretical origin of these particles. Previous analysis by other authors were done at collider energies equal to the new gauge boson mass M_{A_H}. In this paper we show that asymmetries in fermion antifermion production can display model differences in the case M_{A_H} > sqrt{s}. For M_{A_H} < sqrt{s} we show that the hard photon energy distribution in e+e- --> gamma + f + anti-f can present a model dependence. For higher energies, the hard photon energy distribution can be a clear signature for both new neutral gauge bosons. New bounds for the new neutral gauge boson masses are also presented.
