Abstract:Structural, magnetic and ferromagnetic resonance characterization studies have been performed on lay-ered ferromagnetic-ferroelectric oxides that show strong magnetoelectric coupling. The samples contained thick films of ferrites or substituted lanthanum manganites for the ferromagnetic phase and lead zirconate titanate for the ferroelectric phase, and were sintered high temperatures. Results indicate defect free ferrites, but deterioration of manganite parameters due to diffusion at the interface and accounts for poor magnetoelectric coupling in manganite-PZT samples.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to study the influence of the piezoelectric layer on the magnetic and microwave properties of the ferromagnetic layer in multi - layer composites. These multi - layer structures are composed of alternating ferromagnetic materials (such as nickel ferrite, cobalt ferrite, lanthanum - strontium manganite or lanthanum - calcium manganite) and piezoelectric materials (lead zirconate titanate), showing a strong magnetoelectric coupling effect. The focus of the study is as follows: 1. **Structure and Composition**: Through X - ray diffraction analysis, it is confirmed that the structural parameters of the composite are consistent with its components, and no new phase is formed at the interface, indicating that no diffusion phenomenon occurs during the high - temperature sintering process. 2. **Static Magnetization**: The static magnetization curves of all samples at room temperature were measured to evaluate the influence of the magnetic field direction (parallel or perpendicular to the sample plane) on the magnetization intensity. For nickel ferrite - lead zirconate titanate (NFO - PZT) and cobalt ferrite - lead zirconate titanate (CFO - PZT) samples, their magnetization behaviors are similar to those of bulk ferromagnetic materials, indicating that the PZT layer has little influence on the magnetic properties of the ferromagnetic layer. However, for manganite - lead zirconate titanate (such as LSMO - PZT and LCMO - PZT) samples, sample parameter degradation due to interface diffusion was observed, manifested as a decrease in magnetization intensity and Curie temperature. 3. **Ferromagnetic Resonance**: At a frequency of 9.8 GHz, the ferromagnetic resonance characteristics of the samples at room temperature were studied to further explore the magnetic anisotropy and other magnetic parameters of the materials. The resonance fields and line widths of NFO - PZT and CFO - PZT samples are consistent with their static magnetization properties, while LSMO - PZT and LCMO - PZT samples show large in - plane magnetic anisotropy, which may be caused by impurities or strains at the interface. In summary, this study reveals the interaction between the ferromagnetic layer and the piezoelectric layer and its influence on the magnetic and microwave properties of the composite, especially for manganite - based composites, interface diffusion is a key problem to be solved.
