Abstract:We investigate modified Makar-Limanov and Derksen invariants of an affine algebraic variety. The modified Makar-Limanov invariant is the intersection of kernels of all locally nilpotent derivations with slices and the modified Derksen invariant is the subalgebra generated by these kernels. We prove that the modified Makar-Limanov invariant coincides with the Makar-Limanov invariant if there exists a locally nilpotent derivation with a slice. Also we construct an example of a variety admitting a locally nilpotent derivation with a slice such that the modified Derksen invariant does not coincide with the Derksen invariant.

$L$-function invariants for 3-manifolds and relations between generalized Bernoulli polynomials

Abstract:We introduce $ L $-functions attached to negative definite plumbed manifolds as the Mellin transforms of homological blocks. We prove that they are entire functions and their values at $ s=0 $ are equal to the Witten--Reshetikhin--Turaev invariants by using asymptotic techniques developed by the author in the previous papers. We also prove that linear relations between special values at negative integers of some $ L $-functions, which are common generalizations of Hurwitz zeta functions, Barnes zeta functions and Epstein zeta functions.

Abstract:In this article, we give a cohomological interpretation of (a special case of) the integrals constructed by the second named author and Q. Zhang \cite{YanZhang2023} which represent the product of Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions of $\mathrm{GL}_n\times\mathrm{GL}_m$ and $\mathrm{GL}_n\times\mathrm{GL}_{n-m-1}$ for $m<n$. As an application, we prove an algebraicity result for the special values of certain $L$-functions. This work is a generalization of the algebraicity result of Raghuram for $\mathrm{GL}_n\times\mathrm{GL}_{n-1}$ \cite{Raghuram2010} in the special case $m=n-1$, and the results of Mahnkopf \cite{Mahnkopf1998, Mahnkopf2005} in the special case $m=n-2$.

Abstract:For a subgroup $H$ of a reductive group $G$, let $\mathfrak m\subset \mathfrak g^*$ be the cotangent space of $eH\in G/H$. The linear action $(H:\mathfrak m)$ is the coisotropy representation. It is known that the complexity and rank of $G/H$ (denoted $c$ and $r$, respectively) are encoded in properties of $(H:\mathfrak m)$. We complement existing results on $c$, $r$, and $(H:\mathfrak m)$, especially for quasiaffine varieties $G/H$. If the algebra of invariants $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ is finitely generated, then we establish a connection between the nullcones in $\mathfrak m$ and $\mathfrak g^*$. Two other topics considered are (i) a relationship between varieties $G/H$ of complexity at most 1 and the homological dimension of the algebra of invariants $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ and (ii) the Poisson structure of $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ and Poisson-commutative subalgebras in $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ with maximal transcendence degree.

Abstract:Langlands duality is one of the most influential topics in mathematical research. It has many different appearances and influential subtopics. Yet there is a topic that until now seems unrelated to the Langlands program. That is the topic of invariant differential operators. That is strange since both items are deeply rooted in Harish-Chandra's representation theory of semisimple Lie groups. In this paper we start building the bridge between the two programs.

On Motivic and Arithmetic Refinements of Donaldson-Thomas invariants

Abstract:In recent years, a version of enumerative geometry over arbitrary fields has been developed and studied by Kass-Wickelgren, Levine, and others, in which the counts obtained are not integers but quadratic forms. Aiming to understand the relation to other "refined invariants", and especially their possible interpretation in quantum theory, we explain how to obtain a quadratic version of Donaldson-Thomas invariants from the motivic invariants defined in the work of Kontsevich and Soibelman and pose some questions. We calculate these invariants in a few simple examples that provide standard tests for these questions, including degree zero invariants of $\mathbb A^3$ and higher-genus Gopakumar-Vafa invariants recently studied by Liu and Ruan. The comparison with known real and complex counts plays a central role throughout.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a variety (possibly non-complete or singular) over a finitely generated field $k$ of characteristic $0$. For a prime number $\ell$, let $\rho_\ell$ be the Galois representation on the first $\ell$-adic cohomology of $X$. We show that if $\ell$ varies the image of $\rho_\ell$ is of bounded index in the group of $\mathbb{Z}_\ell$-points of its Zariski closure. We use this to improve a recent result of Litt about arithmetic representations of geometric fundamental groups. Litt's result says that there exist constants $N = N(X,\ell)$ such that every arithmetic representation $\pi_1(X_{\bar{k}}) \to \mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb{Z}_\ell)$ that is trivial modulo $\ell^N$ is unipotent. We show that these constants can in fact be chosen independently of $\ell$.
On the $\mathcal L$-invariant of the adjoint of a weight one modular form

Abstract:The purpose of this article is proving the equality of two natural $\mathcal L$-invariants attached to the adjoint representation of a weigth one cusp form, each defined by purely analytic, respectively algebraic means. The proof departs from Greenberg's definition of the algebraic $\mathcal L$-invariant as a universal norm of a canonical $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$ associated to the representation. We relate it to a certain $2\times 2$ regulator of $p$-adic logarithms of global units by means of class field theory, which we then show to be equal to the analytic $\mathcal L$-invariant computed by Rivero and the second author.

Abstract:We begin with modular form periods, a focal point of several Yuri Manin's works. The similarity is discussed between the corresponding zeta-polynomials and superpolynomials of algebraic links, closely related to Khovanov-Rozansky polynomials. We focus on DAHA superpolynomials and motivic ones, defined via compactified Jacobians of plane curve singularities and their counterparts in arbitrary ranks; the non-unibranch construction is new. They conjecturally coincide with the corresponding generalizations of L-functions and satisfy the Riemann Hypothesis in some sectors of the parameters. Presumably, the motivic ones an be interpreted as certain partition functions of Landau-Ginzburg models associated with plane curve singularities; RH for them is remarkably similar to the Lee-Yang circle theorem for Ising models. A q,t-deformation of the Witten index is obtained as an application. General perspectives of the motivic theory of isolated curve and surface singularities are discussed, including possible implications in number theory. Also, we introduce super-analogs of $\rho_{ab}$-invariants and discuss super-deformations of the Riemann's zeta. Among other topics: Verlinde algebras, and the topological vertex.

Abstract:We generalize the "miraculous cancellation" formulas of Alvarez-Gaumé, Witten and Kefeng Liu to a twisted version where an extra complex line bundle is involved. We also apply our result to discuss intrinsic relations between the higher dimensional Rokhlin type congruence formulas of Ochanine [O1], Finashin [F] and Zhang [Z1, 2]. In particular, an analytic proof of the Finashin congruence formula is given.

Abstract:We define a quantitative invariant of Liouville cobordisms with monotone filling through an action-completed symplectic cohomology theory. We illustrate the non-trivial nature of this invariant by computing it for annulus subbundles of the tautological bundle over $\mathbb{C} P^1$ and give further conjectural computations based on mirror symmetry. We prove a non-vanishing result in the presence of Lagrangian submanifolds with non-vanishing Floer homology.

Abstract:We prove a general local rigidity theorem for pull-backs of homogeneous forms on reductive symmetric spaces under representations of discrete groups. One application of the theorem is that the volume of a closed manifold locally modelled on a reductive homogeneous space G / H is constant under deformation of the G / H -structure. The proof elaborates on an argument given by Labourie for closed anti-de Sitter 3-manifolds. The core of the work is a reinterpretation of old results of Cartan, Chevalley and Borel, showing that the algebra of G -invariant forms on G / H is generated by "Chern–Weil forms" and "Chern–Simons forms".

Untwisted Gromov-Witten invariants of Riemann-Finsler manifolds

Abstract:We define a $\mathbb{Q}$-valued deformation invariant of certain complete Riemann-Finsler manifolds, in particular of complete Riemannian manifolds with non positive sectional curvature. It is proved that every rational number is the value of this invariant for some compact Riemannian manifold. We use this to find the first and mostly sharp generalizations, to non-compact products and fibrations, of Preissman's theorem on non-existence of negative sectional curvature metrics on compact products. For example, $\Sigma \times T ^{n}$ admits a metric of negative sectional curvature, where $\Sigma$ is a non-compact possibly infinite type surface, if and only if $\Sigma$ has genus zero. We also give novel estimates on counts of closed geodesics with restrictions on multiplicity. Along the way, we also prove that sky catastrophes of smooth dynamical systems are not geodesible by a certain class of forward complete Riemann-Finsler metrics, in particular by complete Riemannian metrics with non-positive sectional curvature. This partially answers a question of Fuller and gives important examples for our theory here.

Abstract:Let be a cuspidal, cohomological automorphic representation of an inner form G of over a number field F of arbitrary signature. Further, let be a prime of F such that G is split at and the local component of at is the Steinberg representation. Assuming that the representation is noncritical at , we construct automorphic -invariants for the representation . If the number field F is totally real, we show that these automorphic -invariants agree with the Fontaine–Mazur -invariant of the associated p-adic Galois representation. This generalizes a recent result of Spieß respectively Rosso and the first named author from the case of parallel weight to arbitrary cohomological weights.

Abstract:The notion of a generic curved noncommutative torus is considered, which extends the notion of a conformally deformed noncommutative torus introduced by Connes and Tretkoff. For this manifold, an asymptotic expansion is established for the heat semigroup generated by the Laplace–Beltrami operator (in fact, for an arbitrary selfadjoint positive elliptic differential operator of order 2 2 ) and an algorithm is provided to compute the local invariants that arize as the coefficients in the expansion. This allows one to extend a series of previous results by several authors beyond the conformal case and/or for multidimensional tori.

A Gromov-Witten approach to $G$-equivariant birational invariants

Abstract:In <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2404.19088" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2404.19088">arXiv:2404.19088</a>, we initiated a program linking birational invariants with smooth ones and offering new interpretations of classical invariants, such as the Kervaire-Milnor invariants. Here, we rely on the profound geometric reasoning provided by Lupercio and Uribe in the early 00s to establish a connection between Chen-Ruan cohomology and several $G$-birational invariants introduced in the pioneering works Kontsevich, Kresch, Pestun, Tschinkel, along with presenting applications. Combined with the theory of atoms by Katzarkov, Kontsevich, Pantev, and Yu, the proposal in this paper program will lead to a theory of equivariant atoms.

Elliptic curves in lcs manifolds and metric invariants

Abstract:We study invariants defined by count of charged, elliptic $J$-holomorphic curves in locally conformally symplectic manifolds. We use this to define $\mathbb{Q} $-valued deformation invariants of certain complete Riemann-Finlser manifolds and their isometries and this is used to find some new phenomena in Riemann-Finlser geometry. In contact geometry this Gromov-Witten theory is used to study fixed Reeb strings of strict contactomorphisms. Along the way, we state an analogue of the Weinstein conjecture in lcs geometry, directly extending the Weinstein conjecture, and discuss various partial verifications. A counterexample for a stronger, also natural form of this conjecture is given.

Abstract:Suppose V is a finite dimensional, complex vector space, A is a finite set of codimension one subspaces of V, and G is a finite subgroup of the general linear group GL(V) that permutes the hyperplanes in A. In this paper we study invariants and semi-invariants in the graded QG-module H^*(M(A)), where M(A) denotes the complement in V of the hyperplanes in A and H^*( . ) denotes rational singular cohomology, in the case when A is a reflection arrangement and the pair (A,G) arises from a reflection coset. Our main result is the construction of an explicit, natural (from the point of view of Coxeter groups) basis of the space of invariants, H^*(M(A))^G. In addition to leading to a proof of the description of the space of invariants conjectured by Felder and Veselov for Coxeter groups that does not rely on computer calculations, this construction provides an extension of this description of the space of invariants to arbitrary finite, complex reflection groups. The main result also leads to simplifications of some cohomology computations of Lehrer, Callegaro-Marin, and Marin.
