Abstract:Unbounded complex symmetric weighted shifts are studied. Complex symmetric unilateral weighted shifts whose $C^\infty$ vectors contain the image of the canonical orthonormal basis under the conjugation are shown to be decomposable into an orthogonal sum of infinitely many complex selfadjoint truncated weighted shifts, which generalizes a result of S. Zhu and C. G. Li. The bilateral case is discussed as well. Additional results, examples, and open problems are supplied.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study $ m $-isometric weighted shifts with operator weights (both unilateral and bilateral). We obtain a characterization of such shifts by polynomials with operator coefficients. The procedure of construction of all $ m $-isometric weighted shifts with positive weights is given. We answer the question when the weights of $ m $-isometric shifts are commuting. The completion problem for $ m $-isometric weighted shifts with operator weights is solved. We characterize $ m $-isometric bilateral shifts the adjoints of which are also $ m $-isometric. Several relevant examples are provided.

Abstract:We study unitarily equivalent bilateral weighted shifts with operator weights. We establish a general characterization of unitary equivalence of such shifts under the assumption that the weights are quasi-invertible. We prove that under certain assumptions unitary equivalence of bilateral weighted shifts with operator weights defined on $ \mathbb{C}^{2} $ can always be given by a unitary operator with at most two non-zero diagonals. We provide examples of unitarily equivalent shifts with weights defined on $ \mathbb{C}^{k} $ such that every unitary operator, which intertwines them has at least $ k $ non-zero diagonals.

Abstract:We initiate a study of the forward weighted shift operator, denoted by $F_w$, defined on the Banach spaces $\ell^p_{a,b}(\mathtt{A})$ and $c_{0,a,b}(\mathtt{A})$ of analytic functions on a suitable annulus $\mathtt{A}$ in the complex plane. Here, $\ell^p_{a,b}(\mathtt{A})$ and $c_{0,a.b}(\mathtt{A})$, respectively, are the spaces of analytic functions on some annulus $\mathtt{A}$, having normalized Schauder bases of the form $\{(a_n+b_nz)z^n, ~~n\in \mathbb{Z}\}$, which are equivalent to the standard basis in $\ell^p(\mathbb{Z})$ and $c_0(\mathbb{Z})$. We first obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for $F_w$ to be bounded, and then we primarily study when $F_w$ and its adjoint $F_w^*$ are hypercyclic, supercyclic, and chaotic. It is proved that, under certain conditions on $\{a_n\}$ and $\{b_n\}$, the operator $F_w$ similar to a compact perturbation of a classical bilateral weighted shift on $\ell^p(\mathbb{Z})$. Unlike the case of classical weighted shifts, the adjoint operator $F_w^*$ on the dual of $\ell^p_{a,b}(\mathtt{A})$ can have non-trivial periodic vectors, without being even hypercyclic. The zero-one law of orbital limit points fails for $F_w^*$.

Geometrically regular weighted shifts

Abstract:We study a general class of weighted shifts whose weights $\alpha$ are given by $\alpha_n = \sqrt{\frac{p^n + N}{p^n + D}}$, where $p > 1$ and $N$ and $D$ are parameters so that $(N,D) \in (-1, 1)\times (-1, 1)$. Some few examples of these shifts have appeared previously, usually as examples in connection with some property related to subnormality. In sectors nicely arranged in the unit square in $(N,D)$, we prove that these geometrically regular weighted shifts exhibit a wide variety of properties: moment infinitely divisible, subnormal, $k$- but not $(k+1)$-hyponormal, or completely hyperexpansive, and with a variety of well-known functions (such as Bernstein functions) interpolating their weights squared or their moment sequences. They provide subshifts of the Bergman shift with geometric, not linear, spacing in the weights which are moment infinitely divisible. This new family of weighted shifts provides a useful addition to the library of shifts with which to explore new definitions and properties.

Abstract:We investigate the numerical radius of weighted shifts on $\ell^{2}$ as a norm on $\ell^{\infty}$. Along the way, we prove that the largest value a Banach limit can attain on the sequence of absolute values of a bounded sequences is larger or equal to the spectral radius and smaller or equal to the numerical radius of the corresponding weighted shift. Further, we compare the operator norms on $\ell^{\infty}$ with respect to the uniform norm and the numerical radius of weighted shifts as a norm. We show that they generally differ, but for multiplication operators and weighted shifts on $\ell^{\infty}$, they are both equal to the uniform norm of the corresponding weight. Moreover, we prove that all complex-valued Banach limits satisfy the norm inequality with respect to the numerical radius of weighted shifts and provide an application of our results to the theory of Banach limits.

Abstract:We investigate a generalization of weighted shifts where each weight $w_k$ is replaced by an operator $T_k$ going from a Banach space $X_k$ to another one $X_{k-1}$. We then look if the obtained shift operator $B_{(T_k)}$ defined on the $\ell^p$-sum (or the $c_0$-sum) of the spaces $X_k$ is hypercyclic, weakly mixing, mixing, chaotic or frequently hypercyclic. We also compare the dynamical properties of $T$ and of the corresponding shift operator $B_T$. Finally, we interpret some classical criteria in Linear Dynamics in terms of the dynamical properties of a shift operator.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to study the structure of noncommutative weighted shifts, their properties, and to understand their role as models (up to similarity) for $n$-tuples of operators on Hilbert spaces as well as their implications to function theory on noncommutative (resp.commutative) Reinhardt domains. We obtain a Rota type similarity result concerning the joint similarity of $n$-tuples of operators to parts of noncommutative weighted multi-shifts and provide a noncommutative multivariable analogue of Foias-Pearcy model for quasinilpotent operators. The model noncommutative weighted multi-shift which is studied in this paper is the $n$-tuple $W=(W_1,\ldots, W_n)$, where $W_i$ are weighted left creation operators of the full Fock space with $n$ generators associated with a weight sequence $\boldsymbol \mu=\{\mu_\beta\}_{|\beta|\geq 1}$ of nonnegative numbers.

Abstract:We obtain some results about the spectrum and the upper semi-Fredholm spectrum of weighted composition operators on uniform algebras, assuming that the corresponding map maps the Shilov boundary onto itself. In particular, it follows from our results that in the case of analytic uniform algebras the spectrum is a connected rotation invariant subset of the complex plane, and that the upper semi-Fredholm spectrum is rotation invariant as well.

Abstract:We introduce two natural notions of multivariable Aluthge transforms (toral and spherical), and study their basic properties. In the case of 2-variable weighted shifts, we first prove that the toral Aluthge transform does not preserve (joint) hyponormality, in sharp contrast with the 1-variable case. Second, we identify a large class of 2-variable weighted shifts for which hyponormality is preserved under both transforms. Third, we consider whether these Aluthge transforms are norm-continuous. Fourth, we study how the Taylor and Taylor essential spectra of 2-variable weighted shifts behave under the toral and spherical Aluthge transforms; as a special case, we consider the Aluthge transforms of the Drury-Arveson 2-shift. Finally, we briefly discuss the class of spherically quasinormal 2-variable weighted shifts, which are the fixed points for the spherical Aluthge transform.

Abstract:We introduce a class of linear bounded invertible operators on Banach spaces, called shift operators, which comprises weighted backward shifts and models finite products of weighted backward shifts and dissipative composition operators. We classify vast families of these shift operators, including the ones generated by orthogonal, diagonalizable, rotation or hyperbolic matrices. and this classification yields verifiable conditions which we use to construct concrete examples of shift operators with a variety of dynamical properties. As a consequence, we show that, for large classes of shift operators, generalized hyperbolicity is equivalent to the shadowing property.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce and study the spectral property $(E_A)$. This property means that the difference between the approximate point spectrum and the upper semi-Fredholm spectrum coincides with the difference between the approximate point spectrum and the upper semi-Weyl spectrum. Together with local spectral theory, we explore the behavior of this property under certain topological conditions and derive characterizations for the operators that verify it. Furthermore, we establish sufficient conditions that guarantee that a bounded linear operator verifies the property $(E_A)$.

Abstract:A complete characterization of the similarity between two operator-valued multishifts with invertible operator weights is obtained purely in terms of operator weights. This generalizes several existing results of the unitary equivalence of two (multi)shifts. Further, we utilize the aforementioned similarity criteria to determine the similarity between two tuples of operators of multiplication by the coordinate functions on certain reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces determined by diagonal kernels.

Abstract:Given two Hölder potentials $\phi_+$ and $\psi_-$ for the unilateral shift, we define anisotropic Banach spaces of distributions on the bilateral shift space with a finite alphabet. On these spaces, the transfer operator for the bilateral shift is quasicompact with a spectral gap, and the unique Gibbs state associated with $\phi_+$ spans its $1$-eigenspace. This result allows us to establish exponential decay of correlations for Hölder observables and a wide range of measures on the bilateral shift space.

Abstract:The paper investigates Hölder and log-Hölder regularity of spectral measures for weakly mixing substitutions and the related question of quantitative weak mixing. It is assumed that the substitution is primitive, aperiodic, and its substitution matrix is irreducible over the rationals. In the case when there are no eigenvalues of the substitution matrix on the unit circle, our main theorem says that a weakly mixing substitution $\mathbb{Z}$-action has uniformly log-Hölder regular spectral measures, and hence admits power-logarithmic bounds for the rate of weak mixing. In the more delicate Salem substitution case, our second main result says that Hölder regularity holds for algebraic spectral parameters, but the Hölder exponent cannot be chosen uniformly.

Abstract:In the following text we compute the adjoint of weighted generalized shift operators over Hilbert spaces. We show for a conjugate invariant subset $A$ of $\mathbb C$, the additive semigroup generated by $A\cup\{0\}-$weighted generalized shifts over Hilbert space $\mathcal H$ is adjoint invariant if and only if $\mathcal H$ is a finite dimensional Hilbert space or $0$ is not a limit point of $A$.
