Abstract:The (small) quantum cohomology ring of a flag manifold F encodes enumerative geometry of rational curves on F. We give a proof of the presentation of the ring and of a quantum Giambelli formula, which is more direct and geometric than the previously known proof. Furthermore, this proof gives a relationship between quantum Schubert polynomials and universal Schubert polynomials, which arise in a degeneracy locus formula of Fulton.

Abstract:We show that the equivariant small quantum $K$-group of a partial flag manifold is a quotient of that of the full flag manifold as a based ring. This yields a variant of the $K$-theoretic analogue of the parabolic version of Peterson's theorem [Lam-Shimozono, Acta Math. {\bf 204} (2010)] that exhibits different shape from the case of quantum cohomology. This note can be seen as an addendum to [K, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1805.01718" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1805.01718">arXiv:1805.01718</a> and <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1810.07106" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1810.07106">arXiv:1810.07106</a>].

Quantum cohomology of symplectic flag manifolds

Abstract:We compute the quantum cohomology of symplectic flag manifolds. Symplectic flag manifolds can be described by non-abelian GLSMs with superpotential. Although the ring relations cannot be directly read off from the equations of motion on the Coulomb branch due to complication introduced by the non-abelian gauge symmetry, it can be shown that they can be extracted from the localization formula in a gauge-invariant form. Our result is general for all symplectic flag manifolds, which reduces to previously established results on symplectic Grassmannians and complete symplectic flag manifolds derived by other means. We also explain why a (0,2) deformation of the GLSM does not give rise to a deformation of the quantum cohomology.

Abstract:We study the quantum sheaf cohomology of flag manifolds with deformations of the tangent bundle and use the ring structure to derive how the deformation transforms under the biholomorphic duality of flag manifolds. Realized as the OPE ring of A/2-twisted two-dimensional theories with (0,2) supersymmetry, quantum sheaf cohomology generalizes the notion of quantum cohomology. Complete descriptions of quantum sheaf cohomology have been obtained for abelian gauged linear sigma models (GLSMs) and for nonabelian GLSMs describing Grassmannians. In this paper we continue to explore the quantum sheaf cohomology of nonabelian theories. We first propose a method to compute the generating relations for (0,2) GLSMs with (2,2) locus. We apply this method to derive the quantum sheaf cohomology of products of Grassmannians and flag manifolds. The dual deformation associated with the biholomorphic duality gives rise to an explicit IR duality of two A/2-twisted (0,2) gauge theories.

An affine deformation of the quantum cohomology ring of flag manifolds and periodic Toda lattice

Abstract:Consider the generalized flag manifold $G/B$ and the corresponding affine flag manifold $\mathcal{Fl}_G$. In this paper we use curve neighborhoods for Schubert varieties in $\mathcal{Fl}_G$ to construct certain affine Gromov-Witten invariants of $\mathcal{Fl}_G$, and to obtain a family of "affine quantum Chevalley" operators $\Lambda_0, \ldots, \Lambda_n$ indexed by the simple roots in the affine root system of $G$. These operators act on the cohomology ring $\mathrm{H}^*(\mathcal{Fl}_G)$ with coefficients in $\mathbb{Z}[q_0, \ldots,q_n]$. By analyzing commutativity and invariance properties of these operators we deduce the existence of two quantum cohomology rings, which satisfy properties conjectured earlier by Guest and Otofuji for $G= \mathrm{SL}_n(\mathbb{C})$. The first quantum ring is a deformation of the subalgebra of $\mathrm{H}^*(\mathcal{Fl}_G)$ generated by divisors. The second ring, denoted $\mathrm{QH}^*_{\mathrm{af}}(G/B)$, deforms the ordinary quantum cohomology ring $\mathrm{QH}^*(G/B)$ by adding an affine quantum parameter $q_0$. We prove that $\mathrm{QH}^*_{\mathrm{af}}(G/B)$ is a Frobenius algebra, and that the new quantum product determines a flat Dubrovin connection. Further, we develop an analogue of Givental and Kim formalism for this ring and we deduce a presentation of $\mathrm{QH}^*_{\mathrm{af}}(G/B)$ by generators and relations. The ideal of relations is generated by the integrals of motion for the periodic Toda lattice associated to the dual of the extended Dynkin diagram of $G$.

Abstract:We discuss relations of Vafa's quantum cohomology with Floer's homology theory, introduce equivariant quantum cohomology, formulate some conjectures about its general properties and, on the basis of these conjectures, compute quantum cohomology algebras of the flag manifolds. The answer turns out to coincide with the algebra of regular functions on an invariant lagrangian variety of a Toda lattice.

Abstract:The quantum cohomology algebra of the (full) flag manifold is a fundamental example in quantum cohomology theory, with connections to combinatorics, algebraic geometry, and integrable systems. Using a differential geometric approach, we give an algorithm for computing the multiplicative structure constants of this algebra (the 3-point genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants). The algorithm involves a Grobner basis calculation and the solution by quadrature of a system of differential equations. In particular we obtain quantum Schubert polynomials in a natural fashion.

Positivity of minuscule quantum K-theory

Abstract:We prove that the Schubert structure constants of the quantum $K$-theory ring of any minuscule flag variety or quadric hypersurface have signs that alternate with codimension. We also prove that the powers of the deformation parameter $q$ that occur in the product of two Schubert classes in the quantum cohomology or quantum $K$-theory ring of a cominuscule flag variety form an integer interval. Our proofs are based on several new results, including an explicit description of the most general non-empty intersection of two Schubert varieties in an arbitrary flag manifold, and a computation of the cohomology groups of any negative line bundle restricted to a Richardson variety in a cominuscule flag variety. We also give a type-uniform proof of the quantum-to-classical theorem, which asserts that the (3-point, genus 0) Gromov-Witten invariants of any cominuscule flag variety are classical triple-intersection numbers on an associated flag variety. Finally, we prove several new results about the geometry and combinatorics related to this theorem.

Abstract:We give a purely geometric explanation of the coincidence between the Coulomb Branch equations for the 3D GLSM describing the quantum $K$-theory of a flag variety, and the Bethe Ansatz equations of the 5-vertex lattice model. In doing so, we prove an explicit presentation for the quantum $K$-ring of the flag variety, resolving a conjecture of Gu-Sharpe-Mihalcea-Xu-Zhang-Zou. We also prove that the stable map and quasimap $K$-theory of the partial flag varieties are isomorphic, using the work of Koroteev-Pushkar-Smirnov-Zeitlin describing the latter ring in terms of the Bethe Ansatz equations. Our isomorphism gives a more explicit description of the quantum tautological bundles described in the quasimap ring.

Abstract:We propose a new point of view on quantum cohomology, strongly motivated by the work of Givental and Dubrovin, but closer to differential geometry than the existing approaches. The central object is the D-module which "quantizes" a commutative algebra associated to the (uncompactified) space of rational curves. A standard loop group factorization procedure converts the D-module to Givental's D-module and the commutative algebra to the quantum cohomology algebra. We apply this only to the small quantum cohomology of full flag manifolds and semi-positive toric manifolds, but even in these cases the method is effective. In particular it gives an algorithm (requiring construction of a Groebner basis and solution of a system of o.d.e.) for the quantum product.

Abstract:In this paper, we attempt to determine the quantum cohomology of projective bundles over the projective space P^n. In contrast to the previous examples, the relevant moduli spaces in our case frequently do not have expected dimensions. It makes the calculation more difficult. We overcome this difficulty by using excessive intersection theory.

Abstract:In a recent paper, we stated conjectural presentations for the equivariant quantum K ring of partial flag varieties, motivated by physics considerations. In this companion paper, we analyze these presentations mathematically. We prove that if the conjectured relations hold, then they must form a complete set of relations. Our main result is a proof of the conjectured presentation in the case of the incidence varieties. We also show that if a quantum K divisor axiom holds (as conjectured by Buch and Mihalcea), then the conjectured presentation also holds for the complete flag variety.

Abstract:The quantum double Schubert polynomials studied by Kirillov and Maeno, and by Ciocan-Fontanine and Fulton, are shown to represent Schubert classes in Kim's presentation of the equivariant quantum cohomology of the flag variety. We define parabolic analogues of quantum double Schubert polynomials, and show that they represent Schubert classes in the equivariant quantum cohomology of partial flag varieties. For complete flags Anderson and Chen have announced a proof with different methods.

Abstract:In this paper we use three-dimensional gauged linear sigma models to make physical predictions for Whitney-type presentations of equivariant quantum K theory rings of partial flag manifolds, as quantum products of universal subbundles and various ratios, extending previous work for Grassmannians. Physically, these arise as OPEs of Wilson lines for certain Chern-Simons levels. We also include a simplified method for computing Chern-Simons levels pertinent to standard quantum K theory.

Abstract:For the Drinfeld-Jimbo quantum enveloping algebra $U_q(\frak{sl}_{n+1})$, we show that the span of Lusztig's positive root vectors, with respect to Littlemann's nice reduced decompositions of the longest element of the Weyl group, form quantum tangent spaces for the full quantum flag manifold $\mathcal{O}_q(\mathrm{F}_{n+1})$. The associated differential calculi are direct $q$-deformations of the anti-holomorphic Dolbeault complex of the classical full flag manifold $\mathrm{F}_{n+1}$. As an application we establish a quantum Borel-Weil theorem for the $A_n$-series full quantum flag manifold, giving a noncommutative differential geometric realisation of all the finite-dimensional type-$1$ irreducible representations of $U_q(\frak{sl}_{n+1})$. Restricting this differential calculus to the quantum Grassmannians is shown to reproduce the celebrated Heckenberger-Kolb anti-holomorphic Dolbeault complex. Lusztig's positive root vectors for non-nice decompositions of the longest element of the Weyl group are examined for low orders, and are exhibited to either not give tangents spaces, or to produce differential calculi of non-classical dimension.
