Abstract:Strange quark matter in a color flavor locked (CFL) state can be the true ground state of hadronic matter for a much wider range of the parameters of the model (the gap of the QCD Cooper pairs $\Delta$, the strange quark mass $m_s$ and the Bag Constant $B$) than the state without any pairing. We review the equation of state (EOS) of CFL strange matter and study the structure of stellar objects made up of this phase, highlighting the novel features of the latter. Although the effects of pairing on the equation of state are thought to be small, we find that CFL stars may be in fact much more compact than strange stars (SS). This feature may be relevant in view of some recent observation claiming the existence of exotic and/or deconfined phases in some nearby neutron stars (NS).

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The main problem that this paper attempts to solve is to explore whether quark matter (especially strange quark matter in the color - flavor - locked (CFL) state) can be the true ground state of compact celestial bodies such as neutron stars under high - density conditions, and to study the influence of this matter on the structure of celestial bodies. Specifically, the authors focus on the following aspects: 1. **Equation of State of Strange Quark Matter in the Color - Flavor - Locked (CFL) State**: The authors have studied in detail the equation of state (EOS) of strange quark matter in the CFL state and explored the influence of different parameters (such as the bag constant \(B\), the strange quark mass \(m_s\) and the pairing energy gap \(\Delta\)) on the equation of state. 2. **Stability of the CFL State**: The absolute stability window of the CFL state has been studied, that is, within which parameter ranges the CFL state can exist as the ground state of strong interactions. This involves calculating the energy density at zero - pressure conditions and ensuring that it is lower than the neutron mass \(m_n\). 3. **Influence on the Structure of Compact Stars**: By solving the Tolman - Oppenheimer - Volkoff (TOV) equation, the mass - radius relationship of compact stars composed of strange quark matter in the CFL state has been studied. The authors found that, compared with ordinary strange stars, strange stars in the CFL state may be more compact, which provides a theoretical basis for explaining some observed very compact neutron stars. 4. **Comparison with Other Models**: The paper also explores the differences between strange stars in the CFL state and traditional neutron stars and hybrid stars, especially the differences in whether there is a normal matter crust. Strange stars in the CFL state have no normal matter crust because there are no electrons, and this characteristic may lead to significant differences in their surface properties compared with traditional neutron stars. ### Formula Summary - **Thermodynamic Potential \(\Omega_{\text{CFL}}\)**: \[ \Omega_{\text{CFL}}=\Omega_{\text{free}}-\frac{3}{\pi^{2}}\Delta^{2}\mu^{2}+B \] where, \[ \Omega_{\text{free}}=\sum_{i = u,d,s}\frac{1}{4\pi^{2}}\left[\mu_{i}\nu(\mu_{i}^{2}-\frac{5}{2}m_{i}^{2})+\frac{3}{2}m_{i}^{4}\log\left(\frac{\mu_{i}+\nu}{m_{i}}\right)\right] \] - **Pressure \(P\)**: \[ P = -\Omega_{\text{CFL}} \] - **Baryon Number Density \(n_B\)**: \[ n_B=n_u=n_d=n_s=\frac{\nu^{3}+2\Delta^{2}\mu}{\pi^{2}} \] - **Energy Density \(\epsilon\)**: \[ \epsilon=\sum_{i}\mu_{i}n_{i}+\Omega_{\text{CFL}} = 3\mu n_B - P \] - **Absolute Stability Condition**: \[ \frac{\epsilon}{n_B}\bigg|_{P = 0}=3\mu\leq m_n=939\,\text{MeV} \] Through these studies, the authors hope to reveal the potential importance of strange quark matter in the CFL state in the structure of compact stars and provide a new theoretical framework for explaining observational data.
