Abstract:Two-loop renormalization group equations in gauge theories with multiple U(1) groups are presented. Instead of normalizing the Abelian gauge fields in canonical forms, we retain kinetic-mixing terms and treat the mixing coefficients as free parameters. The β- and γ-functions are then obtained in a straightforward manner.

Abstract:Two-loop renormalization group equations in the standard model are recalculated. A new coefficient is found in the beta function of the quartic coupling and a class of gauge invariants is found to be absent in the beta functions of hadronic Yukawa couplings. The two-loop beta function of the Higgs mass parameter is presented in complete form.

Abstract:This paper uses the background field method to calculate one-loop divergent corrections to the gauge field propa- gators in noncommutative U（1） gauge theory with scalar fields. It shows that for a massless scalar field, the gauge field propagators are renormalizable to θ 2 -order, but for a massive scalar field they are renormalizable only to θ-order.

Abstract:In θ-expanded approach, we expand the noncommutative quantum electrodynamics action to θ2 order and calculate the one loop divergent corrections to gauge field propagators. It is shown that the gauge field propagators are one loop renormalizable at θ2-order with a massive or massless fermion field.

Abstract:We find a general formula for the two-loop renormalization counterterms of a scalar quantum field theory with interactions containing up to two derivatives, extending 't~Hooft's one-loop result. The method can also be used for theories with higher derivative interactions, as long as the terms in the Lagrangian have at most one derivative acting on each field. We show that diagrams with factorizable topologies do not contribute to the renormalization group equations. The results in this paper will be combined with the geometric method in a subsequent paper to obtain the counterterms and renormalization group equations for the scalar sector of effective field theories (EFT) to two-loop order.

Complete Two-loop Renormalization Group Equation of the Weinberg Operator

Abstract:We calculate the renormalization group equation (RGE) of the lepton-number-violating Weinberg operator with the particle content of the Standard Model (SM), thus completing the set of two-loop RGEs of the SM effective field theory up to dimension 5. We identify new diagrams that could increase the rank of the Wilson coefficient of the Weinberg operator, and we calculate the complete two-loop RGE for the neutrino mass eigenvalues and leptonic mixing matrix. We also briefly discuss some phenomenological implications of the RGEs.

Two Loop Renormalization of Scalar Theories using a Geometric Approach

Abstract:We derive a general formula for two-loop counterterms in Effective Field Theories (EFTs) using a geometric approach. This formula allows the two-loop results of our previous paper to be applied to a wide range of theories. The two-loop results hold for loop graphs in EFTs where the interaction vertices contain operators of arbitrarily high dimension, but at most two derivatives. We also extend our previous one-loop result to include operators with an arbitrary number of derivatives, as long as there is at most one derivative acting on each field. The final result for the two-loop counterterms is written in terms of geometric quantities such as the Riemann curvature tensor of the scalar manifold and its covariant derivatives. As applications of our results, we give the two-loop counterterms and renormalization group equations for the O(n) EFT to dimension six, the scalar sector of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) to dimension six, and chiral perturbation theory to order $p^6$.

Abstract:The renormalization properties of the non-Abelian chiral Schwinger model are studied. The 1-loop renormalization counterterm is calculated. The results show that a-an arbitrary parameter appearing in the theory and determining its unitarity-is renormalized unless it is equal to zero or two, and there is neither coupling constant renormalization of e nor wavefunction renormalization of the gauge field, fermion field and Wess-Zumino field.

Abstract:In this work we present a complete three-loop renormalisation of an abelian chiral gauge theory within the Breitenlohner-Maison/'t Hooft-Veltman (BMHV) scheme of dimensional regularisation (DReg). In this scheme the $\gamma_5$-matrix appearing in gauge interactions is a non-anticommuting object, leading to a breaking of gauge and BRST invariance. Employing an efficient method based on the quantum action principle, we obtain the complete three-loop counterterm action which serves both to render the theory finite and to restore gauge and BRST invariance. The UV singular counterterms involve not only higher order $\epsilon$-poles but also new counterterm structures emerging at the three-loop level for the first time; the finite symmetry-restoring counterterms are restricted to the same structures as at lower loop orders, just with different coefficients, aligning with our expectations. Both the singular and the finite counterterms include structures which cannot be obtained by the standard multiplicative renormalisation. Our results demonstrate that a rigorous treatment of chiral gauge theories with $\gamma_5$ defined in the BMHV scheme at the multi-loop level is possible and that the obtained counterterm action is suitable for computer implementations, allowing automated calculations without ambiguities caused by $\gamma_5$.

Abstract:We present a systematic method for determining the two-loop effective Lagrangian resulting from integrating out a set of heavy particles in an ultraviolet scalar theory. We prove that the matching coefficients are entirely determined from the (double-)hard region of the loop integrals and present a master formula for matching, applicable to both diagrammatic and functional approaches. We further employ functional methods to determine compact expressions for the effective Lagrangian that do not rely on any previous knowledge of its structure or symmetries. The same methods are also applicable to the computation of renormalization group equations. We demonstrate the application of the functional approach by computing the two-loop matching coefficients and renormalization group equations in a scalar toy model.

Abstract:We present here the most important ideas, equations and solutions for the running of all the quark Yukawa couplings and all the elements of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix, in the approximation of one loop, and up to order $\lambda ^{4}$, where $\lambda \sim 0.22$ is the sine of the Cabibbo angle. Our purpose is to determine what the evolution of these parameters may indicate for the physics of the standard model (SM), the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) and for the Double Higgs Model (DHM).

A Lorentzian renormalisation group equation for gauge theories

Abstract:In a recent paper, with Drago and Pinamonti we have introduced a Wetterich-type flow equation for scalar fields on Lorentzian manifolds, using the algebraic approach to perturbative QFT. The equation governs the flow of the effective average action, under changes of a mass parameter k. Here we introduce an analogous flow equation for gauge theories, with the aid of the Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) formalism. We also show that the corresponding effective average action satisfies a Slavnov-Taylor identity in Zinn-Justin form. We interpret the equation as a cohomological constraint on the functional form of the effective average action, and we show that it is consistent with the flow.

Abstract:Leptoquarks are theoretically well-motivated and have received increasing attention in recent years as they can explain several hints for physics beyond the Standard Model. In this article, we calculate the renormalisation group evolution of models with scalar leptoquarks. We compute the anomalous dimensions for all couplings (gauge, Yukawa, Higgs and leptoquarks interactions) of the most general Lagrangian at the two-loop level and the corresponding threshold corrections at one-loop. The most relevant analytic results are presented in the Appendix, while the notebook containing the full expressions can be downloaded at <a class="link-external link-https" href="https://github.com/SumitBanikGit/SLQ-RG" rel="external noopener nofollow">this https URL</a>. In our phenomenological analysis, we consider some exemplary cases with focus on gauge and Yukawa coupling unification.

Abstract:We extend the previous work and study the renormalisability of the SU$_L$(2) $\times$ U$_Y$(1) electroweak theory with massive W Z fields and massive matter fields. We expound that with the constraint conditions caused by the W Z mass term and the additional condition chosen by us we can still performed the quantization in the same way as before. We also show that when the $\delta-$ functions appearing in the path integral of the Green functions and representing the constraint conditions are rewritten as Fourier integrals with Lagrange multipliers $\lambda_a$ and $\lambda_y$, the total effective action consisting of the Lagrange multipliers, ghost fields and the original fields is BRST invariant. Furthermore, with the help of the the renormalisability of the theory without the the mass term of matter fields, we find the general form of the divergent part of the generating functional for the regular vertex functions and prove the renormalisability of the theory with the mass terms of the W Z fields and the matter fields.
One-loop RG Flow for Adjoint Multiscalar Gauge Theory

Abstract:We study the one-loop renormalisation of 4d SU(N) Yang-Mills theory with $M$ adjoint representation scalar multiplets. We calculate the coupled one-loop renormalization group flows for this theory by developing an algebraic description, which we find to be characterised by a non-associative algebra of marginal couplings. The 4d one-loop beta function of the gauge coupling $g^2$ vanishes for the case $M = 22$, which is intriguing for string theory. There are real fixed flows (fixed points of $\lambda/g^2$) only for $M\geq406$, rendering one-loop fixed points of the gauge coupling and scalar couplings incompatible.

Abstract:In a series of recent works based on foliation-based quantization in which renormalizability has been achieved for the physical sector of the theory, we have shown that the use of the standard graviton propagator interferes, due to the presence of the trace mode, with the 4D covariance. A subtlety in the background field method also requires careful handling. This status of the matter motivated us to revisit an Einstein-scalar system in one of the sequels. Continuing the endeavors, we revisit the one-loop renormalization of an Einstein-Maxwell system in the present work. The systematic renormalization of the cosmological and Newton's constants is carried out by applying the refined background field method. One-loop beta function of the vector coupling constant is explicitly computed and compared with the literature. The longstanding problem of gauge choice-dependence of the effective action is addressed and the manner in which the gauge-choice independence is restored in the present framework is discussed. The formalism also sheds light on background independent analysis. The renormalization involves a metric field redefinition originally introduced by `t Hooft; with the field redefinition the theory should be predictive.

Abstract:This paper investigates the coupling of massive fermions to gravity within the context of a non-Abelian gauge theory, utilizing the effective field theory framework for quantum gravity. Specifically, we calculate the two-loop beta function of the gauge coupling constant in a non-Abelian gauge theory, employing the one-graviton exchange approximation. Our findings reveal that gravitational corrections may lead to a non-trivial UV fixed point in the beta function of the gauge coupling constant, contingent upon the specific gauge group and the quantity of fermions involved.
