Abstract:In this thesis, we consider geometric properties of vector bundles arising from algebraic and Hermitian geometry. On vector bundles in algebraic geometry, such as ample, nef and globally generated vector bundles, we are able to construct positive Hermitian metrics in different senses(e.g. Griffiths-positive, Nakano-positive and dual-Nakano-positive) by L2-method and deduce many new vanishing theorems for them by analytic method instead of the Le Potier-Leray spectral sequence method. On Hermitian manifolds, we find that the second Ricci curvature tensors of various metric connections are closely related to the geometry of Hermitian manifolds. We can derive various vanishing theorems for Hermitian manifolds and also for complex vector bundles over Hermitian manifolds by their second Ricci curvature tensors. We also introduce a natural geometric flow on Hermitian manifolds by using the second Ricci curvature tensor.
Unipotent representations of real classical groups

Abstract:Let $mathbf G$ be a complex orthogonal or complex symplectic group, and let $G$ be a real form of $mathbf G$, namely $G$ is a real orthogonal group, a real symplectic group, a quaternionic orthogonal group, or a quaternionic symplectic group. For a fixed parity $mathbb pin mathbb Z/2mathbb Z$, we define a set $mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$ of nilpotent $mathbf G$-orbits $mathfrak g$ (the Lie algebra of $mathbf G$). When $mathbb p$ is the parity of the dimension of the standard module of $mathbf G$, this is the set of the stably trivial special nilpotent orbits, which includes all rigid special nilpotent orbits. For each $mathcal O in mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$, we construct all unipotent representations of $G$ (or its metaplectic cover when $G$ is a real symplectic group and $mathbb p$ is odd) attached to $mathcal O$ via the method of theta lifting and show particular that they are unitary.
Special unipotent representations of real classical groups: counting and reduction

Abstract: Let $G$ be a real reductive group in Harish-Chandra's class. We derive some consequences of theory of coherent continuation representations to the counting of irreducible representations of $G$ with a given infinitesimal character and a given bound of the complex associated variety. When $G$ is a real classical group (including the real metaplectic group), we investigate the set of special unipotent representations of $G$ attached to $\check{\mathcal O}$, in the sense of Arthur and Barbasch-Vogan. Here $\check{\mathcal O}$ is a nilpotent adjoint orbit in the Langlands dual of $G$ (or the metaplectic dual of $G$ when $G$ is a real metaplectic group). We give a precise count for the number of special unipotent representations of $G$ attached to $\check{ \mathcal O}$. We also reduce the problem of constructing special unipotent representations attached to $\check{\mathcal O}$ to the case when $\check{\mathcal O}$ is analytically even (equivalently for a real classical group, has good parity in the sense of M{\oe}glin). The paper is the first in a series of two papers on the classification of special unipotent representations of real classical groups.

Abstract:Let G be a real reductive group with an involution σ on it. Let H be an open subgroup of Gσ with a character χ on it. Associated to a “theta stable”, “σ-split” parabolic subalgebra, and using the Zuckerman functor, we construct representations of G together with χ-equivariant linear functionals on them. We apply this construction to prove a non-vanishing hypothesis of H. Grobner and A. Raghuram in the study of algebraicity of critical L-values.

Abstract:Let G be a real reductive group, and let chi be a character of a reductive subgroup H of G. We construct chi-invariant linear functionals on certain cohomologically induced representations of G, and we show that these linear functionals do not vanish on the bottom layers. Applying this construction, we prove two Archimedean nonvanishing hypotheses which are vital to the arithmetic study of special values of certain L-functions via modular symbols.
Symmetrizations of quadratic and hermitian forms

Abstract:The paper develops elementary linear algebra methods to compute the determinants of the tensor symmetrizations of quadratic and hermitian forms over fields of good characteristic. Explicit results are given for the partitions $(n)$, $(1^n)$, $(2,1^{n-2})$ and $(3,1^{n-3})$ as well as for all partitions of $n\leq 7$. For orthogonal groups these symmetrizations are not irreducible and we continue to find the determinants of their irreducible constituents, the refined symmetrizations, over fields of characteristic 0.

Stratifications associated to reductive group actions on affine spaces

Abstract:For a complex reductive group G acting linearly on a complex affine space V with respect to a character, we show two stratifications of V associated to this action (and a choice of invariant inner product on the Lie algebra of the maximal compact subgroup of G) coincide. The first is Hesselink's stratification by adapted 1-parameter subgroups and the second is the Morse theoretic stratification associated to the norm square of the moment map. We also give a proof of a version of the Kempf-Ness theorem which states that the GIT quotient is homeomorphic to the symplectic reduction (both taken with respect to the character). Finally, for the space of representations of a quiver of fixed dimension, we show that the Morse theoretic stratification and Hesselink's stratification coincide with the stratification by Harder-Narasimhan types.

Abstract:We study the moduli space A_g of g-dimensional principally polarized abelian varieties in positive characteristic, and its variant A_I with Iwahori level structure. Both supersingular Ekedahl-Oort strata and supersingular Kottwitz-Rapoport strata are isomorphic to disjoint unions of Deligne-Lusztig varieties (see [Hoeve 2008] and [Goertz, Yu 2008], resp.). Here we compare these isomorphisms. We also give an explicit description of Kottwitz-Rapoport strata contained in the supersingular locus in the general parahoric case. Finally, we show that every Ekedahl-Oort stratum is isomorphic to a parahoric Kottwitz-Rapoport stratum.

Nilpotent Invariants for Generic Discrete Series of Real Groups

Abstract:Let $G(\mathbb{R})$ be a real reductive group. Suppose $\pi$ is an irreducible representation of $G(\mathbb{R})$ having a Whittaker model, and consider three invariants of $\pi$ related to nilpotents elements of the Lie algebra of $G$ (or its dual): the associated variety, the wave-front set, and the set of Whittaker data for which $\pi$ has a Whittaker model. If $\pi$ is a discrete series representation, these invariants are known to determine each other. We provide a self-contained account of this and related results, including an elementary proof that passage from $\pi$ to the three invariants defines natural bijections between the generic discrete series in an $L$-packet, the possible Whittaker data for $G(\mathbb{R})$, and the appropriate sets of nilpotent orbits. Given one of the three invariants, we also explain how to reconstruct the other two. Many of the results were known: we give simplified proofs for several of them, for instance a simple proof (for generic discrete series) that the associated variety and the wave-front set are related by the Kostant-Sekiguchi correspondence.

Abstract:We establish a transcendental generalization of Nakamaye's theorem to compact complex manifolds when the form is not assumed to be closed. We apply the recent analytic technique developed by Collins--Tosatti to show that the non-Hermitian locus of a nef and big $(1,1)$-form, which is not necessarily closed, on a compact complex manifold equals the union of all positive-dimensional analytic subvarieties where the restriction of the form is not big (null locus). As an application, we can give an alternative proof of the Nakai--Moishezon criterion of Buchdahl and Lamari for complex surfaces and generalize this result in higher dimensions. This is also used for studying degenerate complex Monge--Ampère equations on compact Hermitian manifolds. Finally, we investigate finite time non-collapsing singularities of the Chern--Ricci flow, partially answering a question raised by Tosatti and Weinkove.

Orbits and invariants for coisotropy representations

Abstract:For a subgroup $H$ of a reductive group $G$, let $\mathfrak m\subset \mathfrak g^*$ be the cotangent space of $eH\in G/H$. The linear action $(H:\mathfrak m)$ is the coisotropy representation. It is known that the complexity and rank of $G/H$ (denoted $c$ and $r$, respectively) are encoded in properties of $(H:\mathfrak m)$. We complement existing results on $c$, $r$, and $(H:\mathfrak m)$, especially for quasiaffine varieties $G/H$. If the algebra of invariants $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ is finitely generated, then we establish a connection between the nullcones in $\mathfrak m$ and $\mathfrak g^*$. Two other topics considered are (i) a relationship between varieties $G/H$ of complexity at most 1 and the homological dimension of the algebra of invariants $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ and (ii) the Poisson structure of $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ and Poisson-commutative subalgebras in $k[\mathfrak m]^H$ with maximal transcendence degree.

Abstract:In this paper we study the isotopism classes of two-step nilpotent algebras. We show that every nilpotent Leibniz algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ with $\operatorname{dim}[\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{g}]=1$ is isotopic to the Heisenberg Lie algebra or to the Heisenberg algebra $\mathfrak{l}_{2n+1}^{J_1}$, where $J_1$ is the $n \times n$ Jordan block of eigenvalue 1. We also prove that two such algebras are isotopic if and only if the Lie racks integrating them are isotopic. This gives the classification of Lie racks whose tangent space at the unit element is a nilpotent Leibniz algebra with one-dimensional commutator ideal. Eventually, we introduce new isotopism invariants for Leibniz algebras and Lie racks.

Cohomological integrality for weakly symmetric representations of reductive groups

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the integrality conjecture for quotient stacks arising from weakly symmetric representations of reductive groups. Our main result is a decomposition of the cohomology of the stack into finite-dimensional components indexed by some equivalence classes of cocharacters of a maximal torus. This decomposition enables the definition of new enumerative invariants associated with the stack, which we begin to explore.

Abstract:We twist the monopole equations of Seiberg and Witten and show how these equations are realized in topological Yang-Mills theory. A Floer derivative and a Morse functional are found and are used to construct a unitary transformation between the usual Floer cohomologies and those of the monopole equations. Furthermore, these equations are seen to reside in the vanishing self-dual curvature condition of an $OSp(1|2)$-bundle. Alternatively, they may be seen arising directly from a vanishing self-dual curvature condition on an $SU(2)$-bundle in which the fermions are realized as spanning the tangent space for a specific background.

Equivariant sheaves for classical groups acting on Grassmannians

Abstract:Let $V$ be a finite-dimensional complex vector space. Assume that $V$ is a direct sum of subspaces each of which is equipped with a nondegenerate symmetric or skew-symmetric bilinear form. In this paper, we introduce a stratification of the Grassmannian $\mathrm{Gr}_k(V)$ related to the action of the appropriate product of orthogonal and symplectic groups, and we study the topology of this stratification. The main results involve sheaves with coefficients in a field of characteristic other than $2$. We prove that there are "enough" parity sheaves, and that the hypercohomology of each parity sheaf also satisfies a parity-vanishing property. This situation arises in the following context: let $x$ be a nilpotent element in the Lie algebra of either $G = \mathrm{Sp}_N(\mathbb{C})$ or $G = \mathrm{SO}_N(\mathbb{C})$, and let $V = \ker x \subset \mathbb{C}^N$. Our stratification of $\mathrm{Gr}_k(V)$ is preserved by the centralizer $G^x$, and we expect our results to have applications in Springer theory for classical groups.

Characteristically nilpotent Lie groups with flat coadjoint orbits

Abstract:We study the existence of certain characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras with flat coadjoint orbits. Their connected, simply connected Lie groups admit square-integrable representations modulo the center. There are many examples of nilpotent Lie groups admitting families of dilations and square-integrable representations, but so far no examples admitting square-integrable representations for which the quotient by the center does not admit a family of dilations. In this paper we construct a two-parameter family of characteristically nilpotent Lie groups $G(\alpha,\beta)$ in dimension $11$, admitting square-integrable representations modulo the center $Z$, such that $G(\alpha,\beta)/Z$ does not admit a family of dilations.

Quillen stratification in equivariant homotopy theory

Abstract:We prove a version of Quillen's stratification theorem in equivariant homotopy theory for a finite group $G$, generalizing the classical theorem in two directions. Firstly, we work with arbitrary commutative equivariant ring spectra as coefficients, and secondly, we categorify it to a result about equivariant modules. Our general stratification theorem is formulated in the language of equivariant tensor-triangular geometry, which we show to be tightly controlled by the non-equivariant tensor-triangular geometry of the geometric fixed points. We then apply our methods to the case of Borel-equivariant Lubin--Tate $E$-theory $\underline{E_n}$, for any finite height $n$ and any finite group $G$, where we obtain a sharper theorem in the form of cohomological stratification. In particular, this provides a computation of the Balmer spectrum as well as a cohomological parametrization of all localizing $\otimes$-ideals of the category of equivariant modules over $\underline{E_n}$, thereby establishing a finite height analogue of the work of Benson, Iyengar, and Krause in modular representation theory.

Tilting sheaves for real groups and Koszul duality

Abstract:For a certain class of real analytic varieties with Lie group actions we develop a theory of (free-monodromic) tilting sheaves, and apply it to flag varieties stratified by real group orbits. For quasi-split real groups, we construct a fully faithful embedding of the category of tilting sheaves to a real analog of the category of Soergel bimodules, establishing real group analogs of Soergel's Structure Theorem and Endomorphism Theorem. We apply these results to give a purely geometric proof of the theorem of Bezrukavnikov and Vilonen which proves Soergel's conjecture for quasi-split groups.
