Abstract:Recent measurements of CP asymmetry in B --> phi K_S appear to be inconsistent with Standard Model expectations. We explore the effect of R-parity-violating SUSY to understand the data.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the inconsistency between the CP asymmetry observed in the B - meson decay process and the prediction of the Standard Model (SM). Specifically, the CP asymmetry in the \( B \to \phi K_S \) decay measured by experiments seems to be inconsistent with the expectation of the Standard Model. ### Problem Background 1. **CP Violation in the Standard Model**: - In the Standard Model, CP violation is caused by the phase in the Cabibbo - Kobayashi - Maskawa (CKM) matrix. - The Standard Model predicts that there will be a large CP - violating effect in B - meson decay. 2. **Inconsistency between Experimental Results and the Standard Model**: - The BaBar and Belle experimental collaborations reported the measurement results of CP asymmetry in the \( B \to \phi K_S \) decay: \[ \sin(2\beta(\phi K_S))_{\text{BaBar}} = - 0.19^{+0.52}_{-0.50}\pm0.09 \] \[ \sin(2\beta(\phi K_S))_{\text{Belle}} = - 0.73\pm0.64\pm0.18 \] - Combining these two measurement results and considering the errors, the average value is obtained: \[ \sin(2\beta(\phi K_S))_{\text{ave}} = - 0.39\pm0.41 \] - This result has a deviation of about 2.8σ from the \( \sin(2\beta) \) value predicted by the Standard Model, which has led to speculation about the existence of new physics. ### Research Methods of the Paper In order to understand these experimental data, the author explored the influence of R - parity - violating supersymmetric theory (R - parity - violating SUSY). Specifically: 1. **R - parity - violating Supersymmetric Theory**: - R - parity is defined as: \[ R = (-1)^{2S + 3B + L} \] where \( S \) is spin, \( B \) is baryon number, and \( L \) is lepton number. - The R - parity - violating superpotential can be written as: \[ W = W_R+W_{\not R} \] where \( W_R \) is the R - parity - conserving part and \( W_{\not R} \) is the R - parity - violating part. 2. **The Influence of R - parity - violating on \( B \to \phi K_S \) Decay**: - By introducing the R - parity - violating coupling \( \lambda' \), the effective Lagrangian for the \( b \to s\bar{s} \) transition can be modified: \[ L_{\text{eff}}=\frac{\lambda'_{i32}\lambda'^*_{i22}}{m^2_{\tilde{\nu}_i}}\bar{s}\gamma_R s\bar{s}\gamma_L b+\frac{\lambda'_{i22}\lambda'^*_{i23}}{m^2_{\tilde{\nu}_i}}\bar{s}\gamma_L s\bar{s}\gamma_R b \] - The author calculated the effective weak phase \( \sin(2\beta)_{\text{eff}} \) and found that it can well explain the experimental measurement results. ### Conclusion The paper shows that the R - parity - violating supersymmetric theory can naturally explain the difference between the CP asymmetry observed in the \( B \to \phi K_S \) decay and the prediction of the Standard Model. This theory provides a possible new physical mechanism to solve...
