Abstract:The connection between the scales of $ {\rm SU} (2)\times {\rm U} (1) $ gauge symmetry breaking and supersymmetry breaking is didactically displayed in the framework of a T.O.Y. (Theory Overestimating Yukawas) model, a version of the $ (M+1)SSM $ (supersymmetric extension of the standard model with a gauge singlet) in which the relevant parameters are determined in the fixed point regime. Some conspicuous features of supersymmetric particle physics are reviewed in the light of this simplified model. An alternative theory corresponding to lim $ (M+1)SSM \longrightarrow MSSM, $ leads to interesting inequalities among the supersymmetric breaking parameters of the $ MSSM. $

Abstract:In this paper I first give a brief introduction to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model(MSSM). Then I discuss a little bit on why we need supersymmetry, the consequence of electroweak symmetry breaking in MSSM and the mass spectrum. After that, I turn to study dynamical supersymmetry breaking(DSB). I first consider the Supersymmetric QCD(SQCD): its classical moduli spaces, Affine-DineSeiberg(ADS) superpotential, and Quantum Moduli Spaces(QMS) when Nf = Nc. Then two models, the 3-2 model and Intriligator-Thomas model are proposed as examples on two distinct ways of DSB, which are DSB from ADS criteria and DSB from Deformed QMS, respectively. Selecting a Model of Supersymmetry Breaking Mediation

Abstract:We study the problem of selecting between different mechanisms of supersymmetry breaking in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model using current data. We evaluate the Bayesian evidence of four supersymmetry breaking scenarios: mSUGRA, mGMSB, mAMSB and moduli mediation. The results show a strong dependence on the dark matter assumption. Using the inferred cosmological relic density as an upper bound, minimal anomaly mediation is at least moderately favoured over the CMSSM. Our fits also indicate that evidence for a positive sign of the mu parameter is moderate at best. We present constraints on the anomaly and gauge mediated parameter spaces and some previously unexplored aspects of the dark matter phenomenology of the moduli mediation scenario. We use sparticle searches, indirect observables and dark matter observables in the global fit and quantify robustness with respect to prior choice. We quantify how much information is contained within each constraint.

Abstract:We consider SUSY SO(10) models in which SUSY breaking occurs via an F-term which does not transform as an SO(10) singlet. This results in non-universal GUT-scale gaugino masses leading to a different pattern of sparticle masses from what is expected in the minimal supergravity model (mSUGRA). We study three breaking chains of SO(10) down to the standard model through SU(4)$\timesSU(2)\times$SU(2), SU(2)$\times$SO(7) and `flipped' SU(5) achieved by the representations 54 and 210 which appear in the symmetric product of two SO(10) adjoints. We examine the phenomenological implications of the different boundary conditions corresponding to the different breaking chains and present the sparticle spectrum.

Revisiting the LHC Constraints on Gauge-Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking Scenarios

Abstract:Supersymmetry (SUSY) addresses several problems of the Standard Model, such as the naturalness problem and gauge coupling unification, and can provide cosmologically viable dark matter candidates. SUSY must be broken at high energy scales with mechanisms like gravity, anomaly, gauge mediation, etc. This paper revisits the Gauge Mediated SUSY Breaking (GMSB) scenarios in the context of data from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiment. The ATLAS mono-photon search at 139 inverse femtobarn integrated luminosity at the 13 TeV LHC, in the context of a simplified General Gauge Mediation (GGM) scenario (which is a phenomenological version of GMSB with an agnostic approach to the nature of the hidden sector), relies on assumptions that do not hold across the entire parameter space. We identify a few crucial assumptions regarding the decay widths of SUSY particles into final states with gravitinos that affect the LHC limits on the masses of the SUSY particles. Our study aims to reinterpret the ATLAS constraints on the gluino-NLSP mass plane, considering all possible decay modes of SUSY particles in a realistic GGM model.

Abstract:In this thesis, we study the details of some fundamental cosmological problems of the gauge mediated supersymmetry breakdown and we probe the supersymmetry breaking sector by cosmological arguments. We manifest that problems like the metastable vacuum selection and the gravitino overproduction in the reheated early universe are naturally absent in the most general class of gauge mediation models without including additional ingredients or assumptions. We also find that the gravitino can generically account for the bulk dark matter of the universe. Cosmological implications of a stringy UV-completion of the supersymmetry breaking sector have been also considered.

Abstract:In modern physics, spontaneous symmetry breaking is one of the most important and ubiquitous ideas. It is well known that the breakdown of global and continuous symmetry gives rise to gapless excitations called Nambu-Goldstone (NG) bosons. This is called NG theorem. Since the generators of broken symmetries are bosonic, the excitations are also bosons. On the other hand, excitations are thought of as fermionic when a generator of broken symmetry is fermionic. The most famous example of fermionic symmetry is supersymmetry (SUSY). SUSY is a symmetry that exchanges bosons and fermions. In high-energy physics, it is known that spontaneous SUSY breaking gives rise to massless modes called NG fermions or Nambu- Goldstinos. In non-relativistic systems, fewer examples of models with SUSY are studied. Therefore, spontaneous SUSY breaking in non-relativistic systems is less understood than that in nonrelativistic systems or spontaneous symmetry breaking. In this thesis, we introduce interacting Majorana models with supersymmetry (SUSY) and discuss the properties in terms of spontaneous SUSY breaking and NG modes.

Abstract:We examine the supersymmetry phenomenology of a novel scenario of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking which we call Gaugino Anomaly Mediation, or inoAMSB. This is suggested by recent work on the phenomenology of flux compactified type IIB string theory. The essential features of this scenario are that the gaugino masses are of the anomaly-mediated SUSY breaking (AMSB) form, while scalar and trilinear soft SUSY breaking terms are highly suppressed. Renormalization group effects yield an allowable sparticle mass spectrum, while at the same time avoiding charged LSPs; the latter are common in models with negligible soft scalar masses, such as no-scale or gaugino mediation models. Since scalar and trilinear soft terms are highly suppressed, the SUSY induced flavor and CP-violating processes are also suppressed. The lightest SUSY particle is the neutral wino, while the heaviest is the gluino. In this model, there should be a strong multi-jet +ETmiss signal from squark pair production at the LHC. We find a 100 fb−1 reach of LHC out to m3/2 ∼ 118TeV, corresponding to a gluino mass of ∼2.6 TeV. A double mass edge from the opposite-sign/same flavor dilepton invariant mass distribution should be visible at LHC; this, along with the presence of short– but visible– highly ionizing tracks from quasi-stable charginos, should provide a smoking gun signature for inoAMSB.

Abstract:Supersymmetric models with a strongly interacting superconformal hidden sector (HS) may drive soft supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking scalar masses, bilinear soft term Bμ and Higgs combinations mHu,d2+μ2 to small values at some intermediate scale, leading to unique sparticle mass spectra along with possibly diminished fine-tuning in spite of a large superpotential μ parameter. We set up a computer code to calculate such spectra, which are then susceptible to a variety of constraints: (1) possible charge-or-color breaking (CCB) minima in the scalar potential, (2) unbounded from below (UFB) scalar potential, (3) improper electroweak symmetry breaking, (4) a charged or sneutrino lightest SUSY particle (LSP), (5) generating mh∼125 GeV , (6) consistency with LHC sparticle mass limits, and (7) naturalness. We find this bevy of constraints leaves little or no viable parameter space for the case where hidden sector dynamics dominates minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) running, even for the case of nonuniversal gaugino masses. For the case with moderate HS running with comparable MSSM running, and with universal gaugino masses, then the fine-tuning is ameliorated, but nonetheless remains high. Abstract:These notes are an expanded version of a short course of lectures given for graduate students in particle physics at Oxford. The level was intended to be appropriate for students in both experimental and theoretical particle <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://physics.The" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> purpose is to present an elementary and self-contained introduction to SUSY that follows on, relatively straightforwardly, from graduate-level courses in relativistic quantum mechanics and introductory quantum field theory. The notation adopted, at least initially, is one widely used in RQM courses, rather than the `spinor calculus' (dotted and undotted indices) notation found in most SUSY sources, though the latter is introduced in optional Asides. There is also a strong preference for a `do-it-yourself' constructive approach, rather than for a top-down formal deductive treatment. The main goal is to provide a practical understanding of how the softly broken MSSM is constructed. Relatively less space is devoted to phenomenology, though simple `classic' results are covered, including gauge unification, the bound on the mass of the lightest Higgs boson, and sparticle mixing. By the end of the course students (readers) should be provided with access to the contemporary phenomenological literature.

Abstract:Dynamical, metastable supersymmetry breaking appears to be a generic phenomena in supersymmetric field theories. It's simplest implementation is within the so-called "retrofitted O'Raifeartaigh Models". While seemingly flexible, model building in these theories is significantly constrained. In gauge-mediated versions, if the approximate $R$ symmetry of the theory is spontaneously broken, the messenger scale is fixed; if explicitly broken by retrofitted couplings, a very small dimensionless number is required; if supergravity corrections are responsible for the symmetry breaking, at least two moderately small couplings are required, and there is a large range of possible messenger scales. In gravity mediated versions, achieving $m_{3/2} \approx M_Z$ is a problem of discrete tuning. With plausible assumptions, one can't achieve this to better than a factor of 100, perhaps accounting for a {\it little hierarchy} and the surprisingly large value of the Higgs mass.

Abstract:We study a supersymmetric version of the seesaw mechanism type-III. The model consists of the MSSM particle content plus three copies of 24 superfields. The fermionic part of the SU(2) triplet contained in the 24 is responsible for the type-III seesaw, which is used to explain the observed neutrino masses and mixings. Complete copies of 24 are introduced to maintain gauge coupling unification. These additional states change the beta functions of the gauge couplings above the seesaw scale. Using mSUGRA boundary conditions we calculate the resulting supersymmetric mass spectra at the electro-weak scale using full 2-loop renormalization group equations. We show that the resulting spectrum can be quite different compared to the usual mSUGRA spectrum. We discuss how this might be used to obtain information on the seesaw scale from mass measurements. Constraints on the model space due to limits on lepton flavour violating decays are discussed. The main constraints come from the bounds on the decay mu to e and gamma but there are also regions where the decay tau to mu and gamma gives stronger constraints. We also calculate the regions allowed by the dark matter constraint. For the sake of completeness, we compare our results with those for the supersymmetric seesaw type-II and, to some extent, with type-I.

Abstract:For 34 years it has been known that chiral supersymmetry (SUSY) in 3+1 dimensions has a very large Becchi-Rouet-Stora (BRS) cohomology space at ghost charge one. This suggests that there might be corresponding SUSY anomalies coming from linearly divergent, triangle, Feynman diagrams. This paper discusses some progress and some outstanding issues related to these questions. The concept of exotic pairs is introduced, with an example from the massless supersymmetric standard model.

Abstract:We show that the search for supersymmetry at LHC will be very problematic for the particular case of nonuniversal relations among gaugino masses. Namely, if gluino, first chargino and LSP masses are closed to each other it would be very difficult to discover supersymmetry even if sparticle masses are lighter than 1 TeV.

Abstract:We investigate the microphysics of cosmic strings in Nonabelian gauge theories with N=1 supersymmetry. We give the vortex solutions in a specific example and demonstrate that fermionic superconductivity arises because of the couplings and interactions dictated by supersymmetry. We then use supersymmetry transformations to obtain the relevant fermionic zero modes and investigate the role of soft supersymmetry breaking on the existence and properties of the superconducting strings.

Abstract:The ${\rm SU}(8)$ was previously found to be the minimal simple gauge group where all three-generational Standard Model fermions can be non-trivially embedded, and it is maximally broken into ${\rm SU}(8)\to {\cal G}_{441}\equiv {\rm SU}(4)_s \otimes {\rm SU}(4)_W \otimes {\rm U}(1)_{X_0}$ at the GUT scale by the ${\rm SU}(8)$ adjoint Higgs field. Gauge symmetries in the strong and the weak sectors are extended by one and two ranks, respectively. The sequential strong-weak-weak (SWW) symmetry breaking stages were found to generate the observed hierarchical SM quark/lepton masses as well as the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) mixing pattern with the precise flavor identifications [1, 2]. We further study the possible weak-strong-weak (WSW) and weak-weak-strong (WWS) symmetry breaking patterns, and compare with the results that we have obtained by following the SWW sequence. The two-loop RGEs following both patterns are derived, where we cannot achieve the gauge coupling unification in the field theory framework. Based on these analyses, we suggest the gauge coupling unification to be interpreted in the context of the Ka{č}-Moody Lie algebra.

Abstract:We will study in details the full scalar potential of the Minimal Supersymmetric $SU(3)_{C}\times SU(3)_{L}\times U(1)_{N}$ Model when all the scalars fields belong to sextet and anti-sextet representation obtain VEV. We will present numerical predictions for neutral scalars of this model, we will show that the mass of the light scalar of CP par is $125.5$ GeV while the light pseudoscalar have mass bigger than $150$ GeV.

Abstract:We show that supersymmetry can be broken mainly by hidden matter condensates in the observable matter direction in generic superstring models. This happens only when the fields whose VEVs give masses to hidden matter do not decouple at the condensation scale. We find how the parameters of the string model and the vacuum determine whether supersymmetry is broken mainly by hidden matter or gaugino condensates and in the matter or moduli directions.
