Abstract:The transition to electric vehicles (EVs) is critical for achieving a clean and sustainable transportation system and offers incentives for integrating renewable energy (RE) sources into the grids. However, the limited driving range of EVs compared to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles remains a major concern. Plug-in charging stations alleviate these issues to some extents, but charging time remains a significant concern, particularly for commercial fleets and drivers. Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer (DWPT) technology offers a promising solution to these limitations. DWPT technology uses electromagnetic induction to wirelessly transmit power from a transmitting coil to a receiving coil, allowing EVs to charge their batteries while in motion. Additionally, DWPT technology offers the potential for an infinite driving range without the need for large battery capacities. This paper presents a thorough analysis of a novel 5 kW bidirectional dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) system designed in MATLAB/Simulink, resulting in high efficiency. The designed bidirectional DWPT system supports grid-to-vehicle (G2V) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) modes within an acceptable range of system efficiency. The V2G mode enables dynamic demand management capabilities of the grids, reducing the intermittency of renewable energy (RE) sources.
