Abstract:We formulate and prove a Conner-Floyd isomorphism for the algebraic K-theory of arbitrary qcqs derived schemes. To that end, we study a stable $\infty$-category of non-$\mathbb A^1$-invariant motivic spectra, which turns out to be equivalent to the $\infty$-category of fundamental motivic spectra satisfying elementary blowup excision, previously introduced by the first and third authors. We prove that this $\infty$-category satisfies $\mathbb P^1$-homotopy invariance and weighted $\mathbb A^1$-homotopy invariance, which we use in place of $\mathbb A^1$-homotopy invariance to obtain analogues of several key results from $\mathbb A^1$-homotopy theory. These allow us in particular to define a universal oriented motivic $\mathbb E_\infty$-ring spectrum $\mathrm{MGL}$. We then prove that the algebraic K-theory of a qcqs derived scheme $X$ can be recovered from its $\mathrm{MGL}$-cohomology via a Conner-Floyd isomorphism \[\mathrm{MGL}^{**}(X)\otimes_{\mathrm L}\mathbb Z[\beta^{\pm 1}]\simeq \mathrm K^{**}(X),\] where $\mathrm L$ is the Lazard ring and $\mathrm K^{p,q}(X)=\mathrm K_{2q-p}(X)$. Finally, we prove a Snaith theorem for the periodized version of $\mathrm{MGL}$.

Abstract:We compute the geometric part of algebraic cobordism over Dedekind domains of mixed characteristic after inverting the positive residue characteristics and prove cases of a Conjecture of Voevodsky relating this geometric part to the Lazard ring for regular local bases. The method is by analyzing the slice tower of algebraic cobordism, relying on the Hopkins-Morel isomorphism from the quotient of the algebraic cobordism spectrum by the generators of the Lazard ring to the motivic Eilenberg-MacLane spectrum, again after inverting the positive residue characteristics.

Abstract:Thomason's étale descent theorem for Bott periodic algebraic $K$-theory \cite{aktec} is generalized to any $MGL$ module over a regular Noetherian scheme of finite dimension. Over arbitrary Noetherian schemes of finite dimension, this generalizes the analog of Thomason's theorem for Weibel's homotopy $K$-theory. This is achieved by amplifying the effects from the case of motivic cohomology, using the slice spectral sequence in the case of the universal example of algebraic cobordism. We also obtain integral versions of these statements: Bousfield localization at étale motivic cohomology is the universal way to impose étale descent for these theories. As applications, we describe the étale local objects in modules over these spectra and show that they satisfy the full six functor formalism, construct an étale descent spectral sequence converging to Bott-inverted motivic Landweber exact theories, and prove cellularity and effectivity of the étale versions of these motivic spectra.

Abstract:We define a cobordism theory in algebraic geometry based on normal crossing degenerations with double point singularities. The main result is the equivalence of double point cobordism to the theory of algebraic cobordism previously defined by Levine and Morel. Double point cobordism provides a simple, geometric presentation of algebraic cobordism theory. As a corollary, the Lazard ring given by products of projective spaces rationally generates all nonsingular projective varieties modulo double point degenerations. Double point degenerations arise naturally in relative Donaldson-Thomas theory. We use double point cobordism to prove all the degree 0 conjectures in Donaldson-Thomas theory: absolute, relative, and equivariant.

Abstract:Generalizing the notion of a Koszul algebra, a graded k-algebra A is K2 if its Yoneda algebra is generated as an algebra in cohomology degrees 1 and 2. We prove a strong theorem about K2 factor algebras of Koszul algebras and use that theorem to show the Stanley-Reisner face ring of a simplicial complex is K2 whenever the Alexander dual simplicial complex is (sequentially) Cohen-Macaulay.

Abstract:In our previous paper, we obtained several results concerning cobordisms of algebraic knots associated with Brieskorn polynomials: for example, under certain conditions, we showed that the exponents are cobordism invariants. In this paper, we further obtain new results concerning the Fox--Milnor type relations, decomposition of the algebraic cobordism class of an algebraic knot associated with a Brieskorn polynomial that has a null-cobordant factor over the field of rational numbers, and cyclic suspensions of knots. As a corollary, we show that a spherical algebraic knot associated with a Brieskorn polynomial has infinite order in the knot cobordism group.

Abstract:We investigate the K-theory of twisted higher-rank-graph algebras by adapting parts of Elliott's computation of the K-theory of the rotation algebras. We show that each 2-cocycle on a higher-rank graph taking values in an abelian group determines a continuous bundle of twisted higher-rank graph algebras over the dual group. We use this to show that for a circle-valued 2-cocycle on a higher-rank graph obtained by exponentiating a real-valued cocycle, the K-theory of the twisted higher-rank graph algebra coincides with that of the untwisted one.

Abstract:It is proved in \cite{BP} (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1108.2717" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1108.2717">arXiv:1108.2717</a>) that the category of relative 3-dimensional cobordisms $\cal Cob^{2+1}$ is equivalent to the universal algebraic category $\overline{\overline{\cal H}}{}^r$ generated by a Hopf algebra object. A different algebraic category $\overline{\cal Alg}$ generated by a Hopf algebra object is defined in \cite{AS} and it conjectured to be equivalent to $\cal Cob^{2+1}$ as well. We prove that there exists a functor $\overline{\cal Alg}\to \overline{\overline{\cal H}}{}^r$, and use it to present an alternative set of axioms for $\overline{\overline{\cal H}}{}^r$.

Abstract:We establish conditions under which an inclusion of finitely aligned left-cancellative small categories induces inclusions of twisted C*-algebras. We also present an example of an inclusion of finitely aligned left-cancellative monoids that does not induce a homomorphism even between (untwisted) Toeplitz algebras. We prove that the twisted C*-algebras of a jointly faithful self-similar action of a countable discrete amenable groupoid on a row-finite k-graph with no sources, with respect to homotopic cocycles, have isomorphic K-theory.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish a theorem that proves a condition when an inclusion morphism between simplicial sets becomes a weak homotopy equivalence. Additionally, we present two applications of this result. The first application demonstrates that cofinal full inclusion functors of (\infty)-categories are weak homotopy equivalences. For our second application, we provide an alternative proof of Barwick's cofinality theorem of algebraic (K)-theory.

On the K-theory of the AF core of a graph C*-algebra

Abstract:In this paper, we study multiplicative structures on the K-theory of the core $A:=C^*(E)^{U(1)}$ of the C*-algebra $C^*(E)$ of a directed graph $E$. In the first part of the paper, we study embeddings $E\to E\times E$ that induce a *-homomorphism $A\otimes A\to A$. Through Künneth formula, any such a *-homomorphism induces a ring structure on $K_*(A)$. In the second part, we give conditions on $E$ such that $K_*(A)$ is generate by "noncommutative line bundles" (invertible bimodules). The same conditions guarantee the existence of a homomorphism of abelian groups $K_0(A)\to\mathbb{Z}[\lambda]/(\det(\lambda\Gamma-1))$ (where $\Gamma$ is the adjacency matrix of $E$) that is compatible with the tensor product of line bundles. Examples include the C*-algebra $C(\mathbb{C}P^{n-1}_q)$ of a quantum projective space, the $UHF(n^\infty)$ algebra, and the C*-algebra of the space parameterizing Penrose tilings. For the first algebra, as a corollary we recover some identities that classically follow from the ring structure of $K^0(\mathbb{C}P^{n-1})$, and that were proved by Arici, Brain and Landi in the quantum case. Incidentally, we observe that the C*-algebra of Penrose tilings is the AF core of the Cuntz algebra $\mathcal{O}_2$, if the latter is realized using the appropriate graph.

Abstract:We prove that for torsion-free amenable ample groupoids, an isomorphism in groupoid homology induced by an étale correspondence yields an isomorphism in the K-theory of the associated $\mathrm{C}^\ast$-algebras. We apply this to extend X. Li's K-theory formula for left regular inverse semigroup $\mathrm{C}^\ast$-algebras. These results are obtained by developing the functoriality of the ABC spectral sequence.

Abstract:This paper proposes a connection between algebraic K-theory and foam cobordisms, where foams are stratified manifolds with singularities of a prescribed form. We consider $n$-dimensional foams equipped with a flat bundle of finitely-generated projective $R$-modules over each facet of the foam, together with gluing conditions along the subfoam of singular points. In a suitable sense which will become clear, a vertex (or the smallest stratum) of an $n$-dimensional foam replaces an $(n+1)$-simplex with a total ordering of vertices. We show that the first K-theory group of a ring $R$ can be identified with the cobordism group of decorated 1-foams embedded in the plane. A similar relation between the $n$-th algebraic K-theory group of a ring $R$ and the cobordism group of decorated $n$-foams embedded in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ is expected for $n>1$. An analogous correspondence is proposed for arbitrary exact categories. Modifying the embedding and other conditions on the foams may lead to new flavors of K-theory groups.

Abstract:The stable mod 2 cohomologies of the spectra for connective real and complex K-theories are well known and easy to work with. However, the known bases are in terms of the anti-automorphism of Milnor basis elements. We offer simple bases in terms of admissible sequences of Steenrod operations that come from the Adem relations. In particular, the basis for the complex case is that you don't use any Steenrod operations in degree one or $2^n+1$, $n > 0$.

Abstract:In his work on defining the pointed set B(G) for all local and global fields, Kottwitz introduced certain Galois gerbes and considered their 'algebraic' cohomology with values in algebraic groups. However, the gerbes so constructed are only canonical up to conjugation by their bands. This is enough in order to ensure that the cohomology set B(G) is canonical, but not enough data to pin down the set of algebraic cocycles used to compute the set B(G). For arithmetic applications it is often desirable to have the finer control provided by these cocycles readily at hand. To this end we propose in this paper a framework with which to work with such spaces of algebraic Kottwitz cocycles. This will play a crucial role in our forthcoming work on the formalism of Shimura varieties.

Abstract:An affine connection is said to be flat if its curvature tensor vanishes identically. Koszul-Vinberg (KV for abbreviation) cohomology has been invoked to study the deformation theory of flat and torsion-free affine connections on tangent bundle. In this Note, we compute explicitly the differentials of various specific KV cochains, and study their relation to classical objects in information geometry, including deformations associated with projective and dual-projective transformations of a flat and torsion-free affine connection. As an application, we also give a simple yet non-trivial example of a KV algebra of which second cohomology group does not vanish.

Abstract:A kind of motivic stable homotopy theory of algebras is developed. Explicit fibrant replacements for the $S^1$-spectrum and $(S^1,\mathbb G)$-bispectrum of an algebra are constructed. As an application, unstable, Morita stable and stable universal bivariant theories are recovered. These are shown to be embedded by means of contravariant equivalences as full triangulated subcategories of compact generators of some compactly generated triangulated categories. Another application is the introduction and study of the symmetric monoidal compactly generated triangulated category of $K$-motives. It is established that the triangulated category $kk$ of Cortiñas--Thom can be identified with the $K$-motives of algebras. It is proved that the triangulated category of $K$-motives is a localization of the triangulated category of $(S^1,\mathbb G)$-bispectra. Also, explicit fibrant $(S^1,\mathbb G)$-bispectra representing stable algebraic Kasparov $K$-theory and algebraic homotopy $K$-theory are constructed.
