Abstract:Noble metal nanoparticles (NPs) such as Au and Ag have shown many applications in the field of catalysis, sensing etc. due to their excellent photoelectric properties. But agglomeration and a low recovery rate are big problems for their applications. In this research, a novel Ag NPs/graphene (reduced graphene oxide)-loading loofah sponge (Ag NPs/RGO-LS) was synthesized through a one-step reduction method. Where the RGO is used as a nano-support with the high specific surface area and the high conductivity to prevent the agglomeration of Ag NPs and provide a conductive layer. The natural, green, low-cost and high-yield LS is designed as a macro-support to reduce the loss of Ag NPs during recycling. The as-prepared Ag NPs/RGO-LS is stable, uniform, and exhibits high efficiency and reusability in the catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) with a high rate constant of 1.893 min-1 as well as an average conversion of 98% in 6 min during five cycles. The results have not only paved the way for the wide application of Ag NPs but also provide a new road for the application of other metal NPs.
Preparation of Cu2O/Au Composite Nanomaterials for Effective Reduction of 4‐Nitrophenol

Abstract:The conversion of nitroaromatics to aminobenzene plays an important role in the synthesis of medicines or fine chemicals. In this work, we successfully prepared Cu2O/Au nanocubes with different Au content for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol. With the increase of gold precursor concentration or reaction time, the density of Au nanoparticles (NPs)on Cu2O surface increases, which results in the stronger electron transfer between Au and Cu2O, and thus the better synergistic catalytic performance of Cu2O/Au nanoparticles toward 4-Nitrophenol (4-NP). In this work, we found the Au component in the nanoparticles played an important role in charge redistribution and transfer, as well as the adsorption and reduction of 4-NP. Therefore, the degradation performance of Cu2O/Au composite is better than that of pure Cu2O, and the degradation rate of 4-NP can reach almost 90 % in 10 min, therefore providing a new idea for the rational design of effective nanocatalysts.
High-performance Cu Nanoparticles/three-Dimensional Graphene/ni Foam Hybrid for Catalytic and Sensing Applications.

Abstract:A novel hybrid of Cu nanoparticles/three-dimensional graphene/Ni foam (Cu NPs/3DGr/NiF) was prepared by chemical vapor deposition, followed by a galvanic displacement reaction in Ni- and Cu-ion-containing salt solution through a one-step reaction. The as-prepared Cu NPs/3DGr/NiF hybrid is uniform, stable, recyclable and exhibits an extraordinarily high catalytic efficiency for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) with a reduction rate constant K = 0.056 15 s-1, required time ∼30 s and excellent sensing properties for the non-enzymatic amperometric hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) with a linear range ∼50 μM-9.65 mM, response time ∼3 s, detection limit ∼1 μM. The results indicate that the as-prepared Cu NPs/3DGr/NiF hybrid can be used to replace expensive noble metals in catalysis and sensing applications.
Ag nanoparticles decorated on Co3O4‐C derived from ZIF‐67: a recyclable catalyst for highly efficient reduction of nitrophenols

Abstract:A serial of Ag nanoparticles supported on Co3O4−C derived from ZIF‐67 has been prepared. The Ag/Co3O4−C nanocomposites with regular morphology could be used as the catalyst to reduce nitrophenols with high performance and good stability. The excellent catalytic performance is mainly attributed to the abundant active sites on the surface and interfacial synergistic effect between Ag and Co3O4−C. Silver‐based nanostructured composites as effective and stable catalysts were successfully designed as the catalyst to reduce the nitrophenols in aqueous solution at room temperature in the presence of NaBH4. The Co3O4‐C composites with regular morphology and adjustable components derived from ZIF‐67 in an air atmosphere at various temperatures (270, 300, and 350 °C) were chosen as a favorable platform to support silver nanoparticles. The acquired silver‐based nanocatalyst (Ag/Co3O4‐C) exhibited excellent catalytic performance towards the hydrogenation of nitrophenols (2‐NP, 3‐NP, and 4‐NP). The calculated rate constant (Kapp) towards the reduction of 4‐NP followed the order: Ag/Co3O4‐C‐300 (0.70 min−1)>Ag/Co3O4‐C‐270 (0.58 min−1)>Ag/Co3O4‐C‐350 (0.46 min−1). Ag/Co3O4‐C‐300 possessed the highest catalytic activity with no induction time during the reaction. What is more, Ag/Co3O4‐C‐300 could reduce 2‐NP and 3‐NP with the rate constant of 0.936 min−1 and 0.391 min−1, respectively. The catalytic activity was higher that many other metal‐based nanocomposites. The excellent catalytic performance was mainly attributed to the abundant active sites on the surface, and the interfacial synergistic effect between Ag and Co3O4‐C, which had a potential driving force for the hydrogenation reaction. In addition, the catalyst remained active even after recirculation experiments. The Ag‐based nanocomposites can be expected to be applied in industrial applications.

Abstract:Catalytic reduction has been considered as one of effective methods for the conversion of organic pollutants. However, a lack of efficient catalyst precludes its practical application. Herein, a novel transition metal carbides-supported bimetallic Ag/Cu nanoparticles composite (Ag/Cu/MXene) catalyst was prepared by one-pot reduction method. The MXene as a carrier medium effectively promoted the riping and immobilization of bimetallic Ag/Cu nanoparticles. The synergistic effects of the composite catalyst improved electron transfer capacity, resulting in high catalytic activity for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). The turnover frequency (TOF) was high up to 1127.2 h −1 , which was higher than that of MXene-supported monometallic Ag or Cu catalyst. In addition, the conversion efficiency for 4-NP reduction by Ag/Cu/MXene was high up to 90% after five recycles. Our findings presented here are not only potential for catalytic applications, but also provide a foundation for the development of efficient MXene-based catalysts.

Abstract:The rational modulation of metal catalysts with tailorable valence and redox properties is a promising strategy for further improving their catalytic performance. Herein, an environment-friendly grafting and thermal strategy was adopted to immobilize copper oxides nanoparticles on carbon nanofiber (CuO x /CF). Benefiting from the defect-rich surface and valence-mixed composition of the CuO x species, the optimized sample CuO x /CF-3 exhibits superb activity for the catalytic reduction of toxic nitrophenols. The complete conversion took only 1 min and an outstanding rate constant ( k ) of 112.7 × 10 ˗3 s ˗1 was achieved under mild conditions (25 °C and 1 atm). Kinetic and recycle experiments demonstrated that the whole catalytic process obeys a pseudo-order kinetic, and the catalyst could maintain high conversion even after 13 successive recycles. These results demonstrate that CuO x /CF-3 is an alternative catalyst to noble metals, providing superb catalytic efficiency and stability in the reduction of toxic nitrophenols, and it can be expanded to develop other noble-metal-free catalysts for various applications.

Abstract:High-performance, nonprecious metal catalysts with special morphologies and easy-to-recycle properties are essential for the treatment of environmental pollutants. Herein, CoFe nanoparticle-decorated reduced graphene oxide (RGO) catalysts were designed and successfully fabricated, and the catalyst was then used to reduce 4-nitrophenol into 4-aminophenol. Outstanding catalytic properties with a reduction rate constant of 4.613 min–1 were achieved due to the synergistic properties of the CoFe metal alloy and the high-conductivity RGO components in the catalysts. In addition, the catalyst was conveniently recovered via magnets due to its inherent magnetic properties. Abstract:Earth-abundant nanocatalysts are actively searched to replace expensive noble metal catalysts for a number of essential processes. Here, Cu catalysts have been designed based on manganese oxide octahedral molecular sieve (OMS-2) supports to optimize the catalytic activity in nitrophenol reduction, CuAAC click reaction and terminal alkyne homocoupling. A correlation has been established between the different synthetic strategies and catalytic activities. CuOx/OMS-2 has also been found an efficient catalyst for the homocoupling of terminal alkynes, click reaction and the reduction of 4-nitrophenol, 2,4-dinitrophenol and 4-nitrobenzene diazo tetrafluoroborate with high activity, whereas Cu-OMS-2 only shows poor catalytic activity for reduction and click reaction, and no catalytic activity for homocoupling.

Abstract:This study utilized fast, affordable, and simple impregnation methods to produce a more affordable, highly active, and recyclable Cu and Ni magnetic nanocatalyst for the removal of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) from wastewater. The core-shell synthesis methods used capture the magnetic capability at the center via a superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticle (SPION) core while utilizing the catalytically active Cu and Ni atoms on its surface. Monometallic coated Ni and Cu SPIONs (SPION@Ni) and SPION@Cu) as well as bimetallic Cu/Ni coated SPIONs (SPION@Ni/Cu) ranging between 15 and 21 nm were evaluated for the reduction of 4-NP to 4-aminophenol (4-AMP) in the presence of excess NaBH 4 as reducing agent. The Ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy method was utilized to monitor the catalytic kinetic reaction. The assessed nanoparticles demonstrated enhanced activity in the progression from SPION@Ni to SPION@Cu, with SPION@Ni/Cu nanoparticles proving to be the most efficient, particularly with AL18 (SPION@Ni/Cu (1(SPION):0.2(M 2+ )) achieving a k app of 0.103 s −1 . In addition, AL18 was easily separated via magnetic decantation and successfully reused for up to ten consecutive reactions.

Abstract:We report a highly efficient and reusable bifunctional nanostructured composite catalyst synthesized by a scalable facile hydrothermal method which enables the precise control of size and morphology of nano particles, wherein Au nanoparticles (NPs) and Fe3O4 particles exhibit excellent dispersing ability on the rGO (reduced graphene oxide) sheet surface (designated as rGO/Fe3O4/Au) to avoid adverse agglomeration between the nano particles and overlapping of the rGO sheets concurrently. The resultant bifunctional composite shows a high performance in the catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) with a conversion of 97% in 5 min and presents good reusability through highly efficient recovery by using external magnetic fields. In particular, there was no significant loss in catalytic activity of the reused catalysts even after being recycled for 8 cycles, displaying attractive potential in industrial applications where separation and recycling are imperative. The rational design provides an approach to synthesize a graphene-based composite with an interesting structure and multi-functional properties as well.

Abstract:Transition metal Cu nanocrystals have shown promising prospects for degrading organic pollutants. Herein, high-efficiency Fe3O4–Cu nanocomposites (NCs) have been successfully synthesized though a facile one-step thermal decomposition method. With a turnover frequency of 6.4 min−1, our Fe3O4–Cu NCs (heated temperature: 225 °C) could degrade the 4-nitrophenol in less than 15 s and showed almost unchanged catalytic efficiency (>90%) after recycled reactions up to six times. Furthermore, the influence of the heat treatment on the structure, elemental distribution, magnetic property and catalytic performance of Fe3O4–Cu NCs was investigated. As the temperature increased from 225 °C to 285 °C, the saturation magnetization of Fe3O4–Cu NCs decreased from 7.27 to 26.2 emu/g, owing to the enlarged mass ratio of Fe3O4 nanocrystals: Cu nanocrystals. This work provides the practical design guidance to the large-scale fabrication of high-efficiency and low-cost Fe3O4–Cu NCs catalysts, which shows promising future for degrading the nitro compounds in wastewater.

Abstract:Cu-anchored carbon nanotubes (Cu@CNTs) were cleverly fabricated through the simultaneously thermal treatment of sulfonated polymer nanotubes and copper salt precursor. The effect of calcination temperature (600 degrees C, 800 degrees C, 1000 degrees C) on the catalytic activity of Cu@CNTs for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) with the addition of NaBH4 has been studied in detail. The catalytic activity of the Cu@CNTs nanocomposite calcined at 800 degrees C was found to be better than those of the samples at 600 degrees C and 1000 degrees C, which can convert 4-NP to 4-AP in 6 min. The excellent catalytic performance of the nanocomposites was derived from the favorable catalytic properties of Cu nanoparticles, the uniform dispersion of Cu nanoparticles on CNTs and the advisable one-dimensional structure. Hence, this article provides a simple method to prepare an attractive catalyst for the reduction of 4-NP.

Abstract:The fabrication of noble metal free catalysts with excellent performance and high stability by a simple, efficient, general and low-cost approach remains an urgent task for solving the problem of resource shortage. Herein, Cu-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) immobilized on commercial filter papers were used as pyrolysis precursors to synthesize CuxO@C at various calcination temperatures. Notably, the resultant CuxO@C-400 exhibits an excellent catalytic performance toward the reaction of reducing 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP). By virtue of the large specific surface area, well-developed porosity, good stability and high dispersity of CuxO nanoparticles, the obtained CuxO@C-400 could complete the reduction reaction within 11 min with a large apparent rate constant κapp value (4.8 × 10-3 s-1). Our strategy therefore opens a new avenue for the preparation of low-cost and high-performance noble metal free catalysts.

Abstract:A series of CuO/Cu2O, Cu2O/Cu catalyst structures with different morphologies are in-situ synthesized via controlling the anionic species of the copper salts in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP). The prepared CuO/Cu2O-rAc is used to catalytically reduce 4-NP. It shows that CuO/Cu2O-rAc prepared with Cu(Ac)2.H2O as an copper source exhibits a higher k of 0.2019 min-1 and km of 0.2019 min-1 μg-1. The catalytic reduction property is in accordance with the CH3COOH content of CuO/Cu2O-rAc. The obtained CuO and Cu2O can form heterojunction structure, improving the electron transfer rate for enhancing the adsorption of 4-NP and desorption of 4-AP. Moreover, a key factor affecting the catalytic efficiency of CuO/Cu2O-rAc refers to the pH, which affects NaBH4 forming H2. This production strategy is highly efficient and can be used to fabricate other similar catalytic hydrogenation reactions.

Abstract:Composite nanostructure materials are widely used in catalysis. They exhibit several characteristics, such as the unique structural advantage and the synergism among their components, which significantly enhances their catalytic performance. In this work, CoPt nanoparticles and reduced-graphene-oxide-based nanocomposite catalysts (rGO/CoPt, rGO/CoPt/Ag) were prepared by using a facile co-reduction strategy. The crystalline structure, morphology, composition, and optical characteristics of the CoPt nanoparticles, rGO/CoPt nanocomposite, and rGO/CoPt/Ag nanocomposite catalysts were investigated by a set of techniques. The ID/IG value of the rGO/CoPt/Ag nanocomposite is 1.158, higher than that of rGO/CoPt (1.042). The kinetic apparent rate constant, k, of the rGO/CoPt/Ag nanocomposite against 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) reduction is 5.306 min−1, which is higher than that of CoPt (0.495 min−1) and rGO/CoPt (1.283 min−1). The normalized rate constant, knor, of the rGO/CoPt/Ag nanocomposite is 56.76 min−1mg−1, which is higher than some other catalytic materials. The rGO/CoPt/Ag nanocomposite shows a significantly enhanced catalytic performance when compared to CoPt nanoparticles and the rGO/CoPt nanocomposite, which may confirm that the novel rGO/CoPt/Ag nanocomposite is a promising catalyst for the application of catalytic fields.

Copper hexacyanoferrate nanocrystal as a highly efficient non-noble metal catalyst for reduction of 4-nitrophenol in water

Abstract:As Prussian Blue analogues (PBAs) represent one of the most classical families of coordination compounds and exhibit versatile catalytic activities, PBAs have been considered as useful heterogeneous catalysts for reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP). Nevertheless, while Cu has been a well-proven transition metal for 4-NP reduction, especially, due to their ability to attain pronounced conversions of reactants under mild conditions, environmental friendliness and great stability. Nevertheless, while Cu has been a well-proven transition metal for 4-NP reduction, Cu-based PBA has never been developed and thoroughly investigated for 4-NP reduction. Thus, in this study, copper hexacyanoferrate, CuII3[Fe(CN)6]2 (CuFeCN) is particularly synthesized and proposed for the first time as a catalyst for reduction of 4-NP in the presence of NaBH4. CuFeCN exhibits a very high catalytic activity towards reduction of 4-NP to 4-AP with 100% conversion within 4 min. The activity factor (AF) at room temperature, 8057.14 s-1 g-1, is between 1 and 2 orders higher than all other MFeCN Prussian blue analogues (M = Co, Fe, Ni, Zn, and Mn). In addition, CuFeCN shows excellent reusability to achieve 100% conversion of 4-NP to 4-AP with highly stable rate constants over successive 7 cycles. The activation energy (Ea) and turn over frequency (TOF) for the reduction of 4-NP to 4-AP catalyzed by CuFeCN system are determined as 24.6 kJ mol-1 and 36.93 min-1, respectively, which are both significantly more superior than most of reported catalysts in literatures. These advantageous properties make CuFeCN ideal to be developed into a promising catalyst for elimination of nitroaromatic contaminants in water.

In this study, CuNPs were synthesized via wet chemical reduction using sodium hypophosphite monohydrate (NaH2PO2 & sdot;H2O), L-ascorbic acid and chitosan. The effect of different synthesis conditions, including reaction pH, temperature, time, concentration of NaH2PO2 & sdot;H2O, L-ascorbic acid and chitosan, as well as the deacetylation degree (DD) of chitosan, on the synthesis of CuNPs was investigated. The synthesized CuNPs were characterized by various analytical techniques. The catalytic properties of synthesized CuNPs were investigated for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) in the presence of sodium borohydride. The synthesis-morphology-catalytic activity relationship of CuNPs was discussed. The results suggested that the morphology of CuNPs could be adjusted by controlling the synthesis conditions. Chitosan DD significantly impacts the morphology of the synthesized CuNPs. As the chitosan DD decreased from 91.8 % to 52.3 %, the average particle size of synthesized CuNPs decreased from 43.9 +/- 10.6 to 17.7 +/- 5.9 nm and the shape changed from anisotropy to near-sphere. CuNPs synthesized using low DD (53.2 %) chitosan (CuNPs-N3) demonstrated the highest 4-NP conversion rate of 99.1 % and reaction rate constant of 0.3540 min- 1. CuNPs-N3 was thermodynamically and kinetically more feasible than CuNPs synthesized with high DD chitosan. These findings provide important insights for further designing and developing hierarchical nanostructured CuNPs catalysts for broader applications.

Abstract:A novel conjugatedmicroporous polymer (CMP) material CZ-TEB was synthesized with a carbazole analogue and 1,3,5-triethynylbenzene. It possessed a high specific surface area, excellent thermal stability and layered-sheet morphology. Furthermore, ultrafine silver nanoparticles were successfully immobilized on CZ-TEB, thus preparing a nanocatalyst Ag0@ CZ-TEB. To evaluate its catalytic performance, Ag0@ CZ-TEB was exploited in the reduction reaction of nitrophenols, a family of priority pollutants. Ag0@ CZ-TEB exhibited high catalytic ability, convenient recovery and excellent reusability. Strikingly, the normalized rate constant (knor) of the reduction reaction of 4-NP to 4AP is as high as 21.49 mmol(-1) s(-1). This result shows a significant improvement over all previously reported work. We purposed to use a "capture-release" model to explain the high catalytic ability of Ag0@ CZ-TEB. This explanation is supported by further experimental results that agree well with the "capture-release" model.
Colloidal Ag@Pt Core–Shell Nanoparticles for the Catalytic Reduction of Nitrophenol

Abstract:Bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs) composed of two metal elements have attracted much interest due to the possibility of synergistically enhancing the catalytic performance of nanocatalysts. In this context, we have recently reported the seed-mediated growth of bimetallic core–shell NPs combining a plasmonic metal Ag as a core and a catalytic metal Pt as a shell with fine control of the core size and shell thickness. Here, we report a detailed study of the catalytic properties of our Ag@Pt core–shell NPs through a model reaction of the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) in 4-aminophenol (4-AP) in the presence of NaBH4, where the Pt shell thickness can be tuned from 1 to 6 atomic layers by adjusting the ratio of the Pt precursor to Ag seed concentration. First, we optimized the catalytic performance of pure Ag NPs by showing the role played by protons. We showed that the addition of an aqueous HCl or H2SO4 solution improves the catalytic conversion rate due to the addition of H+. Furthermore, we showed that under light irradiation the presence of halide increases the catalytic efficiency of the Ag NPs by a photorecycling of Ag and the generation of hot electrons. We then evidenced that the bimetallic system is more catalytically active than its monometallic counterparts, highlighting how the synergy between the two metals crucially depends on both the thickness of the Pt shell and the size of the Ag core. The best conditions were found with four Pt atomic layers, which is attributed to a favorable electronic coupling between the Pt shell and the Ag core. Nevertheless, the effect of the irradiation on the catalytic activity of Ag@Pt NPs remains moderate, probably due to localized surface plasmon resonance damping by the Pt shell. Finally, the Ag@Pt NPs showed good stability and could be reused after running three recycling cycles, thus opening perspectives for the rational design of core–shell nanocatalysts with controlled shell morphologies.

Abstract:This research explores the synthesis of Cu–Ni bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs) via KC 8 -driven reduction method at various refluxing time and aiming to evaluate their catalytic efficiency in the reduction of p-nitrophenol (p-NP) to p-aminophenol (p-AP). The incorporation of Ni into the Cu matrix has been critical in influencing the thermal, morphological, catalytic, and kinetic properties of the NPs. The bimetallic NPs were characterized using a suite of analytical techniques X-ray diffraction (XRD), selected area electron diffraction (SAED)-transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET). XRD revealed a crystallite size of 10.3 nm while structural and surface analyses confirmed the formation of uniformly dispersed NPs ranging 15–25 nm in size, a specific surface area of 280.82 m 2 g −1 , and a pore volume of 0.231 cc g −1 . Our findings revealed that Cu–Ni NPs subjected to a 30-min reflux exhibited a significantly enhanced catalytic activity with a rate constant of 0.112 ± 0.02 s− 1 . Further optimization of the refluxing time highlights a critical window for maximizing catalytic efficiency. Intercalated KC 8 -reduced Cu–Ni NPs have shown promising electrochemical performance, especially as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. However, this research emphasizes the critical role of optimizing refluxing time to maximize catalytic efficiency, providing important insights into the design of advanced catalysts for environmental remediation and chemical synthesis applications.
