Abstract:The ground entanglement and thermal entanglement in quantum mixed spin chains consisting of two integer spins 1 and two half integer spins 1/2 arrayed as ${1/2}-{1/2}-1-1$ in a unit cell with antiferromagnetic nearest-neighbor couplings $J_1$($J_2$) between the spins of equal (different) magnitudes, are investigated by adopting the log-negativity. The ground entanglement transition found here is closely related with the valence bond state transition, and the thermal entanglement near the critical point is calculated and shown that two distinct behaviors exist in the nearest neighbor same kind of spins and different kind of spins, respectively. The potential application of our results on the quantum information processing is also discussed.
Quantum Monte Carlo study of the phase diagram of the two-dimensional uniform electron liquid

Abstract:We present a study of spin-unpolarized and spin-polarized two-dimensional uniform electron liquids using variational and diffusion quantum Monte Carlo (VMC and DMC) methods with Slater-Jastrow-backflow trial wave functions. Ground-state VMC and DMC energies are obtained in the density range $1 \leq r_\text{s} \leq 40$. Single-particle and many-body finite-size errors are corrected using canonical-ensemble twist-averaged boundary conditions and extrapolation of twist-averaged energies to the thermodynamic limit of infinite system size. System-size-dependent errors in Slater-Jastrow-backflow DMC energies caused by partially converged VMC energy minimization calculations are discussed. We find that, for $1 \leq r_\text{s} \leq 5$, optimizing the backflow function at each twist lowers the twist-averaged DMC energy at finite system size. However, nonsystematic system-size-dependent effects remain in the DMC energies, which can be partially removed by extrapolation from multiple finite system sizes to infinite system size. We attribute these nonsystematic effects to the close competition between fluid and defected crystal phases at different system sizes at low density. The DMC energies in the thermodynamic limit are used to parameterize a local spin density approximation correlation functional for inhomogeneous electron systems. Our zero-temperature phase diagram shows a single transition from a paramagnetic fluid to a hexagonal Wigner crystal at $r_\text{s}=35(1)$, with no region of stability for a ferromagnetic fluid.

Abstract:We study a strongly interacting "quantum dot 1" and a weakly interacting "dot 2" connected in parallel to metallic leads. Gate voltages can drive the system between Kondo-quenched and non-Kondo free-moment phases separated by Kosterlitz-Thouless quantum phase transitions. Away from the immediate vicinity of the quantum phase transitions, the physical properties retain signatures of first-order transitions found previously to arise when dot 2 is strictly noninteracting. As interactions in dot 2 become stronger relative to the dot-lead coupling, the free moment in the non-Kondo phase evolves smoothly from an isolated spin-one-half in dot 1 to a many-body doublet arising from the incomplete Kondo compensation by the leads of a combined dot spin-one. These limits, which feature very different spin correlations between dot and lead electrons, can be distinguished by weak-bias conductance measurements performed at finite temperatures.

Abstract:The spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg model on a diamond-decorated square lattice exhibits an intriguing temperature-driven phase transition in a magnetic field between a classical ferrimagnetic phase and a quantum monomer-dimer phase. A generalized decoration-iteration transformation accurately maps the considered model to an effective spin-1/2 Ising model on a square lattice with temperature-dependent effective interactions and field, whereby the effective field vanishes at the phase boundary separating the classical ferrimagnetic phase from the quantum monomer-dimer phase. Typical features of the magnetization, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat in the vicinity of discontinuous and continuous thermal phase transitions between the classical ferrimagnetic phase and the quantum monomer-dimer phase are elucidated.

Abstract:We investigate electronic transport through a parallel double quantum dot (DQD) system with strong on-site Coulomb interaction, as well as the interdot tunnelling. By applying numerical renormalization group method, the ground state of the system and the trans-mission probability at zero temperature are obtained. For a system of quantum dots with degenerate energy levels and small interdot tunnel coupling, the spin correlations between the DQDs is ferromagnetic, and the ground state of the system is a spin-1 triplet state. The linear conductance will reach the unitary limit (2e(2)/h) due to the Kondo effect at low temperature. As the interdot tunnel coupling increases, there is a quantum phase transition from ferromagnetic to anti-ferromagnetic spin correlation in DQDs and the linear conductance is strongly suppressed.
Spin susceptibility in interacting two-dimensional semiconductors and bilayer systems at first order: Kohn anomalies and spin density wave ordering

Abstract:This work is an analytic theoretical study of a 2D semiconductor with a Fermi surface that is split by the Zeeman coupling of electron spins to an external magnetic field in the presence of electron-electron interactions. For the first time, we calculate the spin susceptibility for long-range and finite-range interactions diagrammatically, and find a resonant peak structure at the Kohn anomaly already in first-order perturbation theory. In contrast to the density-density correlator that is suppressed due to the large electrostatic energy required to stabilize charge density order, the spin susceptibility does not suffer from electrostatic screening effects, thus favouring spin-density-wave order in 2D semiconductors. Our results impose significant consequences for determining magnetic phases in 2D semiconductors. For example, a strongly enhanced Kohn anomaly may result in helical ordering of magnetic impurities due to the RKKY interaction. Furthermore, the spin degree of freedom can equally represent a layer pseudospin in the case of bilayer materials. In this case, the external "magnetic field" is a combination of layer bias and interlayer hopping. The sharp peak of the 2D static spin susceptibility may then be responsible for dipole-density-wave order in bilayer materials at large enough electron-phonon coupling.

Abstract:We study the influence of quantizing perpendicular magnetic fields on the ground state of a bilayer with electron and hole fluids separated by an opaque tunnel barrier. In the absence of a field, the ground state at low carrier densities is a condensate of s-wave excitons that has spontaneous interlayer phase coherence. We find that a series of phase transitions emerge at strong perpendicular fields between condensed states and incompressible incoherent states with full electron and hole Landau levels. When the electron and hole densities are unequal, condensation can occur in higher angular momentum electron-hole pair states and, at weak fields, break rotational symmetry. We explain how this physics is expressed in dual-gate phase diagrams, and predict transport and capacitively-probed thermodynamic signatures that distinguish different states.

Phase transitions in the spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the dimerized diamond lattice

Abstract:Using a combination of unbiased quantum Monte Carlo simulations and a decoupled dimer mean-field theory, we investigate the thermal and quantum phase transitions of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg model on the dimerized diamond lattice. We find that at sufficiently strong dimerization the system exhibits a quantum disordered ground state, in contrast to the antiferromagnetic phase stabilized at weak dimerization. We determine the quantum critical point and examine the thermodynamic responses in both regimes. The ratio for the critical interdimer ($J_c$) to intradimer ($J_D$) coupling is obtained as $J_c/J_D = 0.3615(5)$. Our results show that the decoupled dimer mean-field theory well captures the competition between the local singlet formation and the antiferromagnetic ordering tendency, and thus provides an appropriate qualitative description of this three-dimensional quantum magnet, in contrast to the conventional mean-field decoupling. We also examine the differences in the ordering temperatures between the antiferromagnetic and the ferromagnetic spin-1/2 Heisenberg model on the diamond lattice based on quantum Monte Carlo simulations.

Quantum Phase Transitions in 2D--dimensional paramagnetic half--filled Hubbard model

Abstract:We investigate the quantum phase transitions in strongly correlated electronic systems at $T=0^0K$ by the example of the 2D Hubbard model. The model for numerical calculations were formalized in terms of the integral equations previously obtained for the half--filled paramagnetic Hubbard model by means of the variational derivatives technique and subsequent Legendre transformation. For principal results we submit in series the momentum distribution functions $n(k)$ which display distinct attributes for the incipient regimes: the pure doublon phase, the metal phase, Weyl semimetal phase, and Weyl excitonic insulator phase at the sequential increasing the onsite Coulomb interaction $U$.

Abstract:Schwinger boson mean field theory is a powerful approach to study frustrated magnetic systems which allows to distinguish long range magnetic orders from quantum spin liquid phases, where quantum fluctuations remain strong up to zero temperature. In this work, we use this framework to study the Heisenberg model on the Kagome lattice with up to third nearest neighbour interaction and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) antisymmetric exchange. This model has been argued to be relevant for the description of transition metal dichalcogenide bilayers in certain parameter regimes, where spin liquids could be realized. By means of the projective symmetry group classification of possible ansätze, we study the effect of the DM interaction at first nearest neighbor and then compute the $J_2$-$J_3$ phase diagram at different DM angles. We find a new phase displaying chiral spin liquid characteristics up to spin $S=0.5$, indicating an exceptional stability of the state.

Abstract:We study the spin-1/2 Heisenberg model on the square lattice with first- and second-neighbor antiferromagnetic interactions J1 and J2, which possesses a nonmagnetic region that has been debated for many years and might realize the interesting Z2 spin liquid. We use the density matrix renormalization group approach with explicit implementation of SU(2) spin rotation symmetry and study the model accurately on open cylinders with different boundary conditions. With increasing J2, we find a Neel phase, a plaquette valence-bond (PVB) phase with a finite spin gap, and a possible spin liquid in a small region of J2 between these two phases. From the finite-size scaling of the magnetic order parameter, we estimate that the Neel order vanishes at J2/J1~0.44. For 0.5<J2/J1<0.61, we find dimer correlations and PVB textures whose decay lengths grow strongly with increasing system width, consistent with a long-range PVB order in the two-dimensional limit. The dimer-dimer correlations reveal the s-wave character of the PVB order. For 0.44<J2/J1<0.5, spin order, dimer order, and spin gap are small on finite-size systems and appear to scale to zero with increasing system width, which is consistent with a possible gapless SL or a near-critical behavior. We compare and contrast our results with earlier numerical studies.

Abstract:Transition metal dichalcogenide superlattices provide an exciting new platform for exploring and understanding a variety of phases of matter. The moiré continuum Hamiltonian, of two-dimensional jellium in a modulating potential, provides a fundamental model for such systems. Accurate computations with this model are essential for interpreting experimental observations and making predictions for future explorations. In this work, we combine two complementary quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) methods, phaseless auxiliary field quantum Monte Carlo and fixed-phase diffusion Monte Carlo, to study the ground state of this Hamiltonian. We observe a metal-insulator transition between a paramagnet and a 120° Néel ordered state as the moiré potential depth and the interaction strength are varied. We find significant differences from existing results by Hartree-Fock and exact diagonalization studies. Abstract:We investigate the spatially anisotropic square lattice quantum antiferromagnet. The model describes isotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg chains (exchange constant J) coupled antiferromagnetically in the transverse (J( perpendicular )) and diagonal (J(x)), with respect to the chain, directions. Classically, the model admits two ordered ground states-with antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic interchain spin correlations-separated by a first-order phase transition at J( perpendicular )=2J(x). We show that in the quantum model this transition splits into two, revealing an intermediate quantum-disordered columnar dimer phase, both in two dimensions and in a simpler two-leg ladder version. We describe quantum-critical points separating this spontaneously dimerized phase from classical ones.

Abstract:We use the spin functional renormalization group to investigate the $J_1$-$J_2$ quantum Heisenberg model on a square lattice. By incorporating sum rules associated with the fixed length of the spin operators as well as the nontrivial quantum dynamics implied by the spin algebra, we are able to compute the ground state phase diagram for arbitrary spin $S$, including the quantum paramagnetic phase at strong frustration. Our prediction for the extent of this paramagnetic region for $ S = 1/2 $ agrees well with other approaches that are computationally more expensive. We find that the quantum paramagnetic phase disappears for $ S \gtrsim 5 $ due to the suppression of quantum fluctuations with increasing $S$.

Abstract:Motivated by recent progress on field-induced phase transitions in quasi-one-dimensional quantum antiferromagnets, we study the phase diagram of spin-1/2 Heisenberg chains with Ising anisotropic interchain couplings under a longitudinal magnetic field via large-scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations. The interchain interaction is shown to enhance longitudinal spin correlations and stabilize an incommensurate longitudinal spin density wave order at intermediate fields. With increasing field, the ground state changes to a canted antiferromagnetic order and the magnetization fully saturates above a quantum critical point, which is shown to fall into the (3 + 2)D XY universality. In the quantum critical regime, the system experiences a fascinating dimensional crossover to a universal Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (TLL) as demonstrated by the continuous change of the critical exponent of the specific heat. The TLL behavior extends to a broad field and temperature regime, as characterized by the calculated NMR relaxation rate 1/T-1. Our results not only explain a number of puzzling observations in a quasi-one-dimensional antiferromagnet YbAlO3 but also lay down a concrete ground to the study on these materials in general.

Abstract:The heavy Fermi liquid with short-range antiferromagnetic correlations is carefully considered in the two-dimensional Kondo-Heisenberg lattice model. As the ratio of the local Heisenberg superexchange J(H) to the Kondo coupling J(K) increases, the topology of the Fermi surface (FS) of the heavy quasiparticles changes: at J(H)/J(K) = 0.1055 a first-order quantum phase transition is identified, where a small FS circle begins to emerge within the large deformed FS circle centered at (pi,pi). When J(H)/J(K) = 0.1425, the two deformed FS circles intersect each other and then decompose into four kidneylike Fermi pockets via a second-order quantum phase transition. As J(H)/J(K) increases further, the Fermi pockets are shifted inward along the direction (pi,pi) to (pi/2,pi/2), and the resulting FS is consistent with that obtained recently using the cluster dynamic mean-field approach to the Kondo lattice model in the presence of the antiferromagnetic order.
Charge fluctuations close to phase separation in the two dimensional t-J model

Abstract:We have studied the t-J model using the Green Function Monte Carlo technique. We have obtained accurate energies well converged in the thermodynamic limit, by performing simulations up to 242 lattice sites. By studying the energy as a function of hole doping we conclude that there is no phase separation in the physical region, relevant for HTc superconductors. This finding is further supported by the hole-hole correlation function calculation. Remarkably, by approaching the phase separation instability, for $J_c/t\sim 0.5$,this function displays enhanced fluctuations at incommensurate wavevectors, scaling linearly with the doping, in agreement with experimental findings.

High-Temperature Phase Separation and Charge-Magnon Liquid in Kinetic Antiferromagnets

Abstract:Understanding mechanisms of quantum ordering in strongly correlated systems remains a central challenge in condensed matter physics, with implications for designing novel quantum materials. Here, we investigate kinetic antiferromagnetism on a triangular lattice under an applied magnetic field, where spin-polarons emerge as charge-magnon bound states with mutual attraction. Using large-scale diagrammatic Monte Carlo simulations, we show that this interaction drives high-temperature phase separation into charge- and magnon-rich regions, bordered by polarised Mott insulating voids. Spectral function analysis reveals a substantial energy correction from magnon interactions, indicating that these carrier-rich regions form a strongly bound charge-magnon liquid. These findings shed new light on recent experiments on MoTe2/WSe2 moiré bilayers, underscoring kinetic magnetism as a unique pathway for strong inter-carrier attraction and high-temperature quantum ordering, with potential applications in quantum materials.

Estimating phase transition of perturbed J1-J2 Heisenberg quantum chain in mixtures of ground and first excited states

Abstract:We show that the nearest neighbour entanglement in a mixture of ground and first excited states - a subjacent state - of the J1-J2 Heisenberg quantum spin chain can be used as an order parameter to detect the phase transition of the chain from a gapless spin fluid to a gapped dimer phase. We study the effectiveness of the order parameter for varying relative mixing probabilities between the ground and first excited states in the subjacent state for different system sizes, and extrapolate the results to the thermodynamic limit. We observe that the nearest neighbour concurrence can play a role of a good order parameter even if the system is in the ground state, but with a small finite probability of leaking into the first excited state. Moreover, we apply the order parameter of the subjacent state to investigate the response to separate introductions of anisotropy and of glassy disorder on the phase diagram of the model, and analyse the corresponding finite-size scale exponents and the emergent tricritical point in the former case. The anisotropic J1-J2 chain has a richer phase diagram which is also clearly visible by using the same order parameter.
