Abstract:Nuclei are quantum systems in the evolution from few-body to many-body systems,and can exhibit many amazing collective phenomena.With the development of several advanced radioactive-beam facilities,the study of structures and excitations of extreme unstable exotic nuclei has become a hot issue.In this work,we solve the self-consistent FAM-QRPA in large deformed coordinate-spaces to treat continuum effects.We study properties of structures and collective excitations in deformed drip-line nuclei.We found that in weakly bound nuclei 40Mg,the diffuse surface density and pairing density play an important role in low-lying resonance.Through analysis of deformation-induced K-splitting in isovector dipole modes,we see that pygmy resonances have very different mechanism compared to giant resonances.In addition,large-scale fittings are performed to develop highprecision effective interactions,which will provide more reliable theoretical model for related subjects,such as nuclear astrophysics and nuclear fission energy.
Dynamics of nuclear single-particle structure in covariant theory of particle-vibration coupling: from light to superheavy nuclei

Abstract:The impact of particle-vibration coupling and polarization effects due to deformation and time-odd mean fields on single-particle spectra is studied systematically in doubly magic nuclei from low mass $^{56}$Ni up to superheavy ones. Particle-vibration coupling is treated fully self-consistently within the framework of relativistic particle-vibration coupling model. Polarization effects due to deformation and time-odd mean field induced by odd particle are computed within covariant density functional theory. It has been found that among these contributions the coupling to vibrations makes a major impact on the single-particle structure. The impact of particle-vibration coupling and polarization effects on calculated single-particle spectra, the size of the shell gaps, the spin-orbit splittings and the energy splittings in pseudospin doublets is discussed in detail; these physical observables are compared with experiment. Particle-vibration coupling has to be taken into account when model calculations are compared with experiment since this coupling is responsible for observed fragmentation of experimental levels; experimental spectroscopic factors are reasonably well described in model calculations.

Abstract:Predictions of the spectroscopic properties of low-lying states are critical for nuclear structure studies, but are problematic for nuclei with an odd nucleon due to the interplay of the unpaired single particle with nuclear collective degrees of freedom. In this work, a microscopic core-quasiparticle coupling (CQC) model based on the covariant density functional theory is developed that contains the collective excitations of even-mass cores and spherical single-particle states of the odd nucleon as calculated from a quadrupole collective Hamiltonian combined with a constrained triaxial relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov model. Predictions of the new model for excitation energies, kinematic and dynamic moments of inertia, and transition rates are shown to be in good agreement with results of low-lying spectroscopy measurements of the axially deformed odd-proton nucleus $^{159}$Tb and the odd-neutron nucleus $^{157}$Gd. Future studies with additional nuclei are planned.

Abstract:A summary of recent researches on nuclear dynamics with realistic microscopic quantum approaches is presented. The Balian-Vénéroni variational principle is used to derive the time-dependent Hartree-Fock (TDHF) equation describing the dynamics at the mean-field level, as well as an extension including small-amplitude quantum fluctuations which is equivalent to the time-dependent random-phase approximation (TDRPA). Such formalisms as well as their practical implementation in the nuclear physics framework with modern three-dimensional codes are discussed. Recent applications to nuclear dynamics, from collective vibrations to heavy-ion collisions are presented. A particular attention is devoted to the interplay between collective motions and internal degrees of freedom. For instance, the harmonic nature of collective vibrations is questioned. Nuclei are also known to exhibit superfluidity due to pairing residual interaction. Extensions of the theoretical approach to study such pairing vibrations are now available. Large amplitude collective motions are investigated in the framework of heavy-ion collisions leading, for instance, to the formation of a compound system. How fusion is affected by the internal structure of the collision partners, such as their deformation, is discussed. Other mechanisms in competition with fusion, and responsible for the formation of fragments which differ from the entrance channel (transfer reactions, deep-inelastic collisions, and quasi-fission) are investigated. Finally, studies of actinide collisions forming, during very short times of few zeptoseconds, the heaviest nuclear systems available on Earth, are presented.

Abstract:Research interest in Grid computing has grown significantly over the past five years. Management of distributed resources is one of the key issues in Grid computing. Central to management of resources is the effectiveness of resource allocation as it determines the overall utility of the system. The current approaches to superscheduling in a grid environment are non-coordinated since application level schedulers or brokers make scheduling decisions independently of the others in the system. Clearly, this can exacerbate the load sharing and utilization problems of distributed resources due to suboptimal schedules that are likely to occur. To overcome these limitations, we propose a mechanism for coordinated sharing of distributed clusters based on computational economy. The resulting environment, called \emph{Grid-Federation}, allows the transparent use of resources from the federation when local resources are insufficient to meet its users' requirements. The use of computational economy methodology in coordinating resource allocation not only facilitates the QoS based scheduling, but also enhances utility delivered by resources.

Effective field theories for collective excitations of atomic nuclei

Abstract:Collective modes emerge as the relevant degrees of freedom that govern low-energy excitations of atomic nuclei. These modes - rotations, pairing rotations, and vibrations - are separated in energy from non-collective excitations, making it possible to describe them in the framework of effective field theory. Rotations and pairing rotations are the remnants of Nambu-Goldstone modes from the emergent breaking of rotational symmetry and phase symmetries in finite deformed and finite superfluid nuclei, respectively. The symmetry breaking severely constrains the structure of low-energy Lagrangians and thereby clarifies what is essential and simplifies the description. The approach via effective field theories exposes the essence of nuclear collective excitations and is defined with a breakdown scale in mind. This permits one to make systematic improvements and to estimate and quantify uncertainties. Effective field theories of collective excitations have been used to compute spectra, transition rates, and other matrix elements of interest. In particular, predictions of the nuclear matrix element for neutrinoless double beta decay then come with quantified uncertainties. This review summarizes these results and also compares the approach via effective field theories to well-known models and ab initio computations.

Abstract:The nuclear collective models introduced by Bohr, Mottelson and Rainwater, together with the Mayer-Jensen shell model, have provided the central framework for the development of nuclear physics. This paper reviews the microscopic evolution of the collective models and their underlying foundations. In particular, it is shown that the Bohr-Mottelson models have expressions as macroscopic limits of microscopic models that have precisely-defined expressions in many-nucleon quantum mechanics. Understanding collective models in this way is especially useful because it enables the analysis of nuclear properties in terms of them to be revisited and reassessed in the light of their microscopic foundations.

Abstract:A completely microscopic beyond mean-field approach has been elaborated to overcome some intrinsic limitations of self-consistent mean-field schemes applied to nuclear systems, such as the incapability to produce some properties of single-particle states (e.g. spectroscopic factors), as well as of collective states (e.g. their damping width and their gamma decay to the ground state or to low lying states). Since commonly used effective interactions are fitted at the mean-field level, one should aim at refitting them including the desired beyond mean-field contributions in the refitting procedure. If zero-range interactions are used, divergences arise. We present some steps towards the refitting of Skyrme interactions, for its application in finite nuclei.

Abstract:We discuss and explore new aspects of the generalized Dyson mapping of nuclear collective superalgebras composed of an arbitrary fermion-pair algebra and a set of single-fermion creation/annihilation operators. It is shown that a direct consequence of the particular mapping procedure is the conservation of the total number of ideal particles in the resulting boson-fermion system. This provides a microscopic framework for the phenomenological supersymmetric models based on the U(6/2Omega) dynamical superalgebras. Attention is paid to the mapping of single-fermion creation and annihilation operators whose detailed form cannot be determined on the phenomenological level. We derive the general expansion of the single-fermion images that result from the similarity transformation employed to ensure non-redundant bosonisation in the ideal space. The method is then illustrated in an application to the SO(4) collective algebra, a natural extension of the SU(2) seniority model.

Abstract:A Delaunay polytope $P$ is said to be {\em extreme} if the only (up to isometries) affine bijective transformations $f$ of $\R^n$, for which $f(P)$ is again a Delaunay polytope, are the homotheties. This notion was introduced in \cite{DGL92}; also some examples in dimension 1, 6, 7, 15, 16, 22, 23 were constructed and it was proved that in dimension less than 6 there are no extreme Delaunay polytopes, except the segment. In this note, for every $n\geq 6$ we build an extreme Delaunay polytope $ED_n$ of dimension $n$.

Abstract:An earlier work dealing with low-lying collective states in nuclei is revised and improved. Correlated and independent nucleon S and D pairs properly modified so that they behave approximately like bosoms are constructed in terms of which a model space for low-lying collective states is defined, and a microscopic basis for IBM is thus set up. AII dynamical variables can also be "bosonized", i.e., expressed in terms of these "bosons" but with state-dependent coefficients or operators;to incorporate their state dependence in model space.

Abstract:The classical and quantum model of high spin particles with spin-mass coupling is presented in this paper. The mass spectrum of the model is symmetric with respect to particle-antiparticle exchange. The quantum model contains elementary particles and the cluster states generating infinite degeneracy of the mass spectrum.

Abstract:Recent works on the relativistic description of exotic nuclei and nuclear matter at extreme conditions are reviewed. New effective interactions, PK1, PK1r and PKDD in the relativistic mean field( RMF) theory, are proposed with the center-of-mass correction included in a microscopic way. They are able to provide an excellent description not only for the properties of nuclear matter and neutron stars, but also for the nuclei near or far from the beta-stability line, including halos and giant halos at the neutron drip line in nuclei and hyper-nuclei. Based on the solution of the RMF equations, good spin symmetry is found in anti-nucleon spectra.

Abstract:Modern Physics Letters A, Ahead of Print. This study explores the age-old quest to construct a geometric model of a quantum particle. While static classical particle models have largely been dismissed, the focus has now shifted to intricate dynamic models that hold the promise of reconciling general relativity with quantum mechanics. We propose that matter particles can be described as radiation confined within dynamically curved spacetime regions, without the need for quantization of space and time, and using standard field equations and natural Planck units. Specifically, we investigate a cyclic or oscillating radiation-dominated micro-cosmos undergoing repeated bouncing. Our methodology employs integration, with carefully defined initial conditions. The results include several observable properties characteristic of quantum particles. We calculate the total mass, revealing a compelling inverse proportionality between mass and radius identical with the de Broglie relationship. Applying this model to protons, we discover a profound and surprisingly simple relationship between the proton's radius and mass expressed in Planck units. This enables a definition of the proton radius that aligns remarkably well with the 2018 CODATA value. Furthermore, our analysis demonstrates that the radial density profile of the proton (or nucleon), averaged over a cycle time, increases toward the center. The problem of embedding the micro-cosmos within a background spacetime is also described. These results underscore the relevance of general relativity in the domain of nuclear physics. Moreover, the model offers a fresh perspective that can stimulate new ideas in the ongoing quest to unify general relativity with quantum physics.

A New Fundamental Duality in Nuclei and its Implications for Quantum Mechanics

Abstract:The Liquid Drop Models (LDM) and the Independent Particle Models (IPM) have been known to provide two conflicting pictures of the nucleus. The IPM being quantum mechanical, is believed to provide a fundamental picture of the nucleus and hence has been focus of the still elusive unified theory of the nucleus. It is believed that the LDM at best is an effective and limited model of the nucleus. Here, through a comprehensive study of one nucleon separation energy, we give convincing evidence that actually the LDM is as fundamental and as basic for the description of the nucleus as the IPM is. As such the LDM and the IPM provide simultaneously co-exiting complementary duality of the nuclear phenomena. This fundamental duality also provides solution to the decades old Coester Band problem in the nucleus. Similarity and differences with respect to the well known wave-particle duality, as envisaged in Bohr's Complementarity Principle, is pointed out. Thereafter implications of this new Duality in the nucleus for quantum mechanics is discussed.

Abstract:A microscopic and consistent description of both nuclear structure and reactions is instrumental to extend the predictivity of models calculating scattering observables. In particular, this is crucial in the case of exotic nuclei not yet discovered. In this manuscript, we will present the plan of the Lund effort for a symmetry breaking description of bound and scattering observables using a generator coordinate method model based on an effective Hamiltonian constrained with a (Skyrme) functional. Following this, we will illustrate the steps to construct an optical potential for deformed nuclei from microscopic wavefunctions obtained with projected generator coordinate method from Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov basis.

Abstract:Covariant Density functional theory is used as a basis for a microscopic description of spectroscopic properties of quantum phase transitions in nuclei. Since it is well known that the mean field approximation breaks down in transitional nuclei, where configuration mixing and fluctuations connected with broken symmetries play an important role, a theory is developed which uses the Relativistic Generator Coordinate Method to perform configuration mixing calculations of angular momentum and particle number projected wave functions. As applications with show 3D-calculations of the spectrum of low-lying collective states in the nucleus Mg-24. This method can also be used to study the behavior of characteristic physical quantities as a function of the physical control parameter, the number of nucleons, in the region of quantum phase transitions.

Abstract:The triaxial quadrupole collective Hamiltonian, based on relativistic energy density functionals, is extended to include a pairing collective coordinate. In addition to triaxial shape vibrations and rotations, the model describes pairing vibrations and the coupling between triaxial shape and pairing degrees of freedom. The parameters of the collective Hamiltonian are determined by a covariant energy density functional, with constraints on the intrinsic triaxial shape and pairing deformations. The effect of coupling between triaxial shape and pairing degrees of freedom is analyzed in a study of low-lying spectra and transition rates of $^{128}$Xe. When compared to results obtained with the standard triaxial quadrupole collective Hamiltonian, the inclusion of dynamical pairing compresses the low-lying spectra and improves interband transitions, in better agreement with data. The effect of zero-point energy (ZPE) correction on low-lying excited spectra is also discussed.
