Abstract:The study of charged and neutral boson vertices has been performed in different production channels at the LEP experiments. Decay rates and kinematic properties of these events are exploited to set constraints on the corresponding gauge couplings.

Abstract:We list the set of C and P conserving anomalous quartic vector bosons self-couplings which can be tested at LEP2 through triple vector boson production. We show how this set can be embedded in manifestly SU(2)xU(1) gauge invariant operators exhibiting an SU(2)_c global symmetry. We derive bounds on these various couplings and show the most relevant distributions that can enhance their contribution. We also find that an e+e- collider running at 500 GeV can improve the LEP2 limits by as much as three orders of magnitude.

Abstract:External linguistic resources have been used for a very long time in information extraction. These methods enrich a document with data that are semantically equivalent, in order to improve recall. For instance, some of these methods use synonym dictionaries. These dictionaries enrich a sentence with words that have a similar meaning. However, these methods present some serious drawbacks, since words are usually synonyms only in restricted contexts. The method we propose here consists of using word sense disambiguation rules (WSD) to restrict the selection of synonyms to only these that match a specific syntactico-semantic context. We show how WSD rules are built and how information extraction techniques can benefit from the application of these rules.

Abstract:Precision measurements of anomalous quartic couplings of electroweak gauge bosons allow us to search for deviations of the Standard Model predictions and signals of new physics. Here, we obtain the constraints on anomalous quartic gauge couplings using the presently available data on the production of gauge-boson pairs via vector boson fusion. We work in the Higgs effective theory framework and obtain the present bounds on the operator's Wilson coefficients. Anomalous quartic gauge boson couplings lead to rapidly growing cross sections and we discuss the impact of a unitarization procedure on the attainable limits.

Abstract:We study the incidence of genuine quartic vector boson couplings in the reactions e-e- -> e-e-ZZ, e-\nu ZW, \nu\nu WW. We find that a linear collider operated in the e-e- mode will provide bounds on these couplings which are competitive with those to be obtained in the e+e- mode.

Abstract:Spectra, triple, and quartic gauge couplings of the Higgsless model with gauge group SU(2)(L) x SU(2)(R) x U(1)(B-L) defined in warped space are explored with a numerical method. We extend the equation of motions, boundary conditions, and formalism of multi-gauge-boson vertices to the Hirn-Sanz scenario. By assuming the ideally delocalized fermion profile, we study the spectra of vector bosons as well as the triple and quartic gauge couplings among vector bosons. It is found that mass spectra can be greatly modified by the parameters of QCD power corrections. Meanwhile, the triple and quartic gauge couplings can deviate from the values of the standard model to at least +/- 10% and can saturate the LEP2 bounds. We find the triple gauge couplings of Z (W) over barW can be 50% smaller than the unitarity bounds. The triple gauge couplings of (Z) over bar WW is 20% smaller than the unitarity bounds, which might challenge the detection of (Z) over bar via s channel at LHC if m((Z) over bar)500 GeV.

Abstract:The LEP data on four fermion processes are presently used to study the non abelian gauge couplings of the Standard Model. The present theoretical error for two classes of processes, single-W production and radiative four fermion final states, is discussed according to the results of the four fermion working group of the LEP2 Monte Carlo Workshop held at CERN.

Abstract:We present measurements of triple gauge boson coupling parameters using data recorded by the OPAL detector at LEP2 at a centre-of-mass energy of 172 GeV. A total of 120 W-pair candidates has been selected in the q q(bar) q q(bar), q q(bar) l nu(bar)_l, and l nu(bar)_l l(bar)' nu_l' decay channels, for an integrated luminosity of 10.4 pb^-1. We use these data to determine several different anomalous coupling parameters using the measured cross-section and the distributions of kinematic variables. We measure alpha_B-phi = 0.35 + 1.29 - 1.07 +/- 0.38, alpha_W-phi = 0.00 + 0.30 - 0.28 +/- 0.11, alpha_W = 0.18 + 0.49 - 0.47 +/- 0.23, Delta(g_1^z) = -0.03 + 0.40 -0.37 +/- 0.14, Delta(kappa_gamma^(HISZ)) = 0.03 + 0.55 - 0.51 +/- 0.20, and Delta(kappa) = 0.03 + 0.49 - 0.46 +/- 0.21. Combining the alpha_W-phi result with our previous result obtained from the 161 GeV data sample we measure alpha_W-phi = -0.08 + 0.28 - 0.25 +/- 0.10. All of these measurements are consistent with the Standard Model.
Four-fermion production and limits on anomalous couplings at LEP-2

Abstract:Electroweak processes with four fermions in the final state were measured extensively at LEP-2 in e+e- collisions with centre-of-mass energies up to 209 GeV. By combining the results obtained by Aleph, Delphi, L3 and Opal, the predictions from the Standard Model were probed at the level of their present accuracy. An important outcome was the possibility to measure the predicted charged triple gauge boson self-couplings with a precision of a few percent. Moreover studies of four-fermion processes allowed new physics to be searched for by looking for anomalous gauge boson self-couplings. The measurements reported are also relevant to direct searches for new particles at LEP, as four-fermion processes contribute an important background in several cases. The latest results from the LEP experiments - some of which are now available in finalized form - and their combination are reviewed and discussed.

Abstract:The properties of light leptoquarks predicted in the context of a simple grand unified theory and their observability at the LHC are investigated. The SU(5) symmetry of the theory implies that the leptoquark couplings to matter are related to the neutrino mass matrix. We study the resulting connection between neutrino masses and mixing parameters and the leptoquark decays, and show that different light neutrino hierarchies imply distinctive leptoquark decay signatures. We also discuss low-energy constraints implied by searches for charged lepton flavour violation, studies of meson decays, and electroweak precision data. We perform a detailed parton-level study of the leptoquark signals and the Standard Model backgrounds at the LHC. With the clean final states containing a di-lepton plus two jets, the QCD production of the leptoquark pair can be observed for a leptoquark mass of one TeV and beyond. By examining the lepton flavor structure of the observed events, one could further test the model predictions related to the neutrino mass spectrum. In particular, b-flavor tagging will be useful in distinguishing the neutrino mass pattern and possibly probing an unknown Majorana phase in the Inverted Hierarchy or the Quasi-Degenerate scenario. Electroweak associated production of the leptoquark doublet can also be useful in identifying the quantum numbers of the leptoquarks and distinguishing between the neutrino mass spectra, even though the corresponding event rates are smaller than for QCD production. We find that with only the clean channel of μ+E̸T+jets, one could expect an observable signal for a leptoquark masses of about 600 GeV or higher.

Abstract:We compare vector boson fusion and quark antiquark annihilation production of vector boson pairs at the LHC and include the effects of anomalous couplings. Results are given for confidence intervals for anomalous couplings at the LHC assuming that measurements will be in agreement with the standard model. We consider all couplings of the general triple vector boson vertex and their correlations. In addition we consider a gauge invariant dimension-six extension of the standard model. Analytical results for the cross sections for quark antiquark annihilation and vector boson fusion with anomalous couplings are given.

Abstract:The vector boson scattering (VBS) processes in Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiments offer a unique opportunity to probe the anomalous quartic gauge couplings (aQGCs). We study the dimension-8 operators contributing to the anomalous $\gamma\gamma WW$ coupling and the corresponding unitarity bounds via the exclusive $\gamma\gamma \to W^+W^-$ production in $pp$ collisions at LHC for a center of mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. By analysing the kinematical features of the signal, we propose an event selection strategy to highlight the aQGC contributions. Based on the event selection strategy, the statistical significance of the signals are analyzed in detail, and the constraints on the coefficients of the anomalous quartic gauge operators are obtained.

Leptophobic Z' Boson and Parity-Violating Ed Scattering

Abstract:We study the impact of a leptophobic Z' gauge boson on the C-1q and C-2q parameters that describe the low-energy, parity-violating electron-quark neutral current interaction. We complement previous work by including the penguin-like vertex corrections, thereby completing the analysis of one-loop calculation up to (sic)(m(q')(2)/M-Z'(2)) terms. We analyze the sensitivity of these probes to the different couplings Z'(u) over barq (q u, c, t) and Z'(d) over barq (q = d, s, b) in a model- independent way that can be applied to any specific Z' scenario. We show that constraints from neutral kaon and heavy flavor studies preclude significant contributions from flavor nondiagonal couplings except for those involving top quarks. We apply our results to a light Z' with flavor diagonal couplings to up or down quarks, a scenario proposed in the literature to explain the CDF W plus dijet anomaly. We find that such a particle would not affect the C1q coefficients, but it would have a sizable impact on C-2q couplings that can be probed by future measurements of parity- violating deep inelastic scattering of polarized electrons off of deuterium.
Search for the anomalous quartic gauge couplings through $Zγ$ production at $e^{-} e^{+}$ colliders

Abstract:Spontaneous breaking of the $SU(2)_{L}\times U(1)_{Y}$ electroweak symmetry of the Standard Model (SM) sets the constraints on triple gauge couplings and quartic gauge couplings. Therefore, the measurement of multiboson production in $e^{-} e^{+}$ collisions allows us to directly examine the SM predictions and perform indirect investigations of new physics beyond the SM. In this paper, we concentrate the process $e^{-} e^{+} \to e^{-} Z\gamma e^{+}$ with $Z$ boson decaying to neutrinos to investigate the anomalous quartic gauge couplings using the effective Lagrangian approach at the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC). We obtain the sensitivities on the anomalous $ f_ {Ti}/\Lambda^4$ ($i=0,2,5,6,7,8,9$) couplings taking into account the systematic uncertainties of $3, 5 \%$ at $95\%$ Confidence Level for the CLIC with $\sqrt{s}=3$ TeV. Our results show that the sensitivities on some anomalous couplings without systematic errors are up to two orders of magnitude better than the current experimental limits. Considering a realistic systematic uncertainty such as $5 \%$ from possible experimental sources, the sensitivity of all anomalous quartic couplings gets worse by about $10\%$ compared to those without systematic uncertainty for the CLIC.

Abstract:The vector boson scattering at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is sensitive to anomalous quartic gauge couplings (aQGCs). In this paper, we investigate the aQGC contribution to $ W \gamma jj$ production at the LHC with $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV in the context of an effective field theory (EFT). The unitarity bound is applied as a cut on the energy scale of this production process, which is found to have significant suppressive effects on the signals. To enhance the statistical significance, we analyse the kinematic and polarization features of the aQGC signals in detail. We find that the polarization effects induced by the aQGCs are unique and can discriminate the signals from the SM backgrounds well. With the proposed event selection strategy, we obtain the constraints on the coefficients of dimension-8 operators with current luminosity. The results indicate that the process $pp \to W \gamma jj$ is powerful for searching for the $O_{M_{2,3,4,5}}$ and $O_{T_{5,6,7}}$ operators.

Probing the Quartic Higgs Boson Self-Interaction

Abstract:The Higgs self-interactions play a crucial role in exploring the underlying mechanisms of electroweak symmetry breaking and the nature of the phase transition involved. In this article, we propose to probe the quartic Higgs self-interaction at lepton and hadron colliders, via the di-Higgs productions. We analyze the contributions of the quartic Higgs coupling, including the renormalization of the cubic Higgs coupling and the modification of the VVhh form factor, to the vector boson-fusion and the vector boson-associated di- Higgs productions at one-loop level. Such an effect is independent of the choice of gauge fixing, if the quartic Higgs coupling is decoupled from other couplings in the contexts considered. Notably, a combination of these two di-Higgs productions is important for optimizing the collider sensitivities to probe the quartic Higgs coupling. With this guideline, we explore the International Linear Collider and Compact Linear Collider sensitivities, and find that the International Linear Collider has the potential to measure the quartic Higgs coupling, normalized by its standard model value, with a precision of similar to +/- 25 (500 GeV, 4 ab(-1 )+ 1 TeV, 2.5 ab(-1)) and similar to +/- 20 (500 GeV, 4 ab(-1 )+ 1 TeV, 8 ab(-1)), at 1 sigma C.L., after marginalizing the cubic Higgs coupling in the chi(2) analysis. The dependence on the renormalization scheme of the cubic Higgs coupling is discussed.

Abstract:The cross section of the process e^+ e^- ->Z \gamma\gamma ->qq \gamma \gamma is measured with 215 pb^-1 of data collected with the L3 detector during the final LEP run at centre-of-mass energies around 205 GeV and 207 GeV. No deviation from the Standard Model expectation is observed. The full data sample of 713 pb^-1, collected above the Z resonance, is used to constrain the coefficients of anomalous quartic gauge boson couplings to: -0.02 GeV^-2<a_0/\Lambda^2<0.03 GeV^-2 and -0.07 GeV^-2<a_c/\Lambda^2<0.05 GeV^-2, at 95% confidence level.

Abstract:The basic features of quark and lepton mass matrices can be successfully explained by natural minima of a generic potential with dynamical Yukawa fields invariant under the $[\mathrm{SU(3)}]^5\times \mathcal{O}(3)$ flavor symmetry. If this symmetry is gauged, in order to avoid potentially dangerous Goldstone bosons, and small perturbations are added to exactly fit the observed pattern of fermion masses, the spectrum of massive flavor gauge bosons can naturally explain the hints for new physics in $b\to s \ell^+\ell^-$ transitions, including $R_K$. In particular, the desired pattern of the Standard Model Yukawa couplings is compatible with a gauged $\mathrm{U(1)}_q$ in the quark sector, and $\mathrm{U(1)}_{\mu-\tau}$ in the lepton sector spontaneously broken around the TeV scale. In order to explain the aforementioned experimental hints, the corresponding neutral gauge bosons are required to mix, yielding to potentially observable signals in dimuon resonance searches at the LHC.

Probing Neutral Gauge Boson Self-interactions in ZZ Production at Hadron Colliders

Abstract:A detailed analysis of ZZ production at the upgraded Fermilab Tevatron and the CERN Large Hadron Collider is presented for general ZZZ and ZZ\gamma couplings. Deviations from the Standard Model gauge theory structure for each of these can be parameterized in terms of two form factors which are severely restricted by unitarity at high energy. Achievable limits on these couplings are shown to be a dramatic improvement over the limits currently obtained by e^+e^- experiments.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the contributions of anomalous quartic gauge couplings (aQGCs) to $Z\gamma jj$ production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the context of Standard Model effective theory (SMEFT). When energy scale is large, the validity of SMEFT becomes an important issue. To ensure the validity, the unitarity bound is applied in a model independent approach, which is found to have significant suppressive effects on the signals of $O_{M_i}$ operators. The kinematic and polarization features of the aQGC signals are also studied. The polarization effect is useful to highlight the signals of $O_{T_i}$ operators. The sensitivity estimates on dimension-8 operators with unitarity bounds at $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV are obtained.
