Abstract:We present solutions corresponding to rotational configurations in the recently proposed Geometric Scalar Gravity (GSG) theory. The solutions obtained here have the important property that the associated closed time-like curves are always restricted to a compact domain of space-time. We compare this property with those of analogous solutions in General Relativity (GR).

Abstract:This paper aims at studying the spin once again. The departure point is thus the Stern and Gerlach experimental results that can be described in a coherent way in the frame of quantum mechanics only. Instead, the relativistic mechanics point of view is proposed here following the work presented in a previous article about rigid body rotation. Indeed, a careful study of the horizon of this relativistic rigid body rotation appears to be invariant from any observation angle in full agreement with the spin property.

Abstract:The gravitational interaction of (classical and quantum) spinning bodies is currently the focus of many works using a variety of approaches. This note is a comment on a short paper by Jean-Marie Souriau, now reprinted in the GRG Golden Oldies collection. Souriau's short 1970 note was a pioneering contribution to a symplectic description of the dynamics of spinning particles in general relativity which remained somewhat unnoticed. We explain the specificity of Souriau's approach and emphasize its potential interest within the current flurry of activity on the gravitational interaction of spinning particles.

Spin-Gravity Coupling in a Rotating Universe

Abstract:The coupling of intrinsic spin with the nonlinear gravitomagnetic fields of Goedel-type spacetimes is studied. We work with Goedel-type universes in order to show that the main features of spin-gravity coupling are independent of causality problems of the Goedel universe. The connection between the spin-gravitomagnetic field coupling and Mathisson's spin-curvature force is demonstrated in the Goedel-type universe. That is, the gravitomagnetic Stern--Gerlach force due to the coupling of spin with the gravitomagnetic field reduces in the appropriate correspondence limit to the classical Mathisson spin-curvature force.

Conservative Spin Magnitude Change in Orbital Evolution in General Relativity

Abstract:We show that physical scattering observables for compact spinning objects in general relativity can depend on additional degrees of freedom in the spin tensor beyond those described by the spin vector alone. The impulse, spin kick, and leading-order waveforms exhibit such a nontrivial dependence. A signal of this additional structure is the change in the magnitude of the spin vector under conservative Hamiltonian evolution, similar to our previous studies in electrodynamics. These additional degrees of freedom describe dynamical mass multipoles of compact objects and decouple for black holes. We also show that the conservative impulse, spin kick and change of the additional degrees of freedom are encoded in the eikonal phase.

Generalised Spin$^r$ Structures on Homogeneous Spaces

Abstract:Spinorial methods have proven to be a powerful tool to study geometric properties of spin manifolds. Our aim is to continue the spinorial study of manifolds that are not necessarily spin. We introduce and study the notion of $G$-invariance of spin$^r$ structures on a manifold $M$ equipped with an action of a Lie group $G$. For the case when $M$ is a homogeneous $G$-space, we prove a classification result of these invariant structures in terms of the isotropy representation. As an example, we study the invariant spin$^r$ structures for all the homogeneous realisations of the spheres.

Abstract:A simple differential analysis of issue of the correspondence between notion of geodesics in gravitation theory of GTR and straights of inertial motion in the Minkowski space-time discovers that, conventional certification of the geodesics in GTR is not compatible with the existence of the Riemann-Christoffel curvature tensor (RCT). We show that, resolution of the contradiction consists of a natural extension of the Christoffel symbols in the gravitation dynamic law to the complete connectedness form which includes a triadic asymmetric tensor (named the moderator). The correspondent Riemann supertensor form, unavoidably annihilating by certification of 4-vectors of particle momentum and spin, gives birth to torsion (skew-symmetric part of the moderator) and the gravitensor (the even-symmetric part); both arrive connected to the RCT and become an indispensable integral part of structure of the gravitational field. The equivalence principle still actual while it becomes enriched in the content. The Einstein-Hilbert law of the metric to matter connection remains unchanged at the produced correction of the gravitational dynamics. Our analysis results in the gravitensor addition to Christoffels in equation for geodesics, modified equations for 4-vector of particle spin with contribution from torsion, and renormalization of metric in the update dynamic concept of the GTR. We pay attention to possible implication of torsion in the elementary interactions.

Spin as a probe of axion physics in general relativity

Abstract:The dynamics of spin in external electromagnetic, gravitational, and axion fields is analysed in the framework of the gravitoelectromagnetism approach in Einstein's general relativity theory. We consistently extend the recent studies from the flat Minkowski geometry to the curved spacetime manifolds, contributing to the discussion of the possible new role of a precessing spin as an ``axion antenna'' that can be used to detect the hypothetical axion-like dark matter. The formalism developed helps to clarify the subtle influence of the gravitational/inertial and axion fields in the ultra-sensitive high-energy spin experiments with charged particles and neutrons at accelerators and storage rings devoted to testing fundamental physical symmetries, including attempts to establish the nature of dark matter in the Universe.

Abstract:In this paper, we adapt the characterisation of the spin representation via exterior forms to the generalised spin$^r$ context. We find new invariant spin$^r$ spinors on the projective spaces $\mathbb{CP}^n$, $\mathbb{HP}^n$, and the Cayley plane $\mathbb{OP}^2$ for all their homogeneous realisations. Specifically, for each of these realisations, we provide a complete description of the space of invariant spin$^r$ for the minimum value of $r$ for which this space is non-zero. Additionally, we demonstrate some geometric implications of the existence of special spin$^r$ spinors on these spaces.

Abstract:We clarify the structure obtained in Hélein and Vey's proposition for a variational principle for the Einstein-Cartan gravitation formulated on a frame bundle starting from a structure-less differentiable 10-manifold. The obtained structure is locally equivalent to a frame bundle which we term "generalised frame bundle". In the same time, we enrich the model with a Dirac spinor coupled to the Einstein-Cartan spacetime. The obtained variational equations generalise the usual Einstein-Cartan-Dirac field equations in that they are shown to imply the usualy field equations when the generalised frame bundle is a standard frame bundle.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a series of techniques to describe General Relativity using Geometric Algebra (GA). We emphasize the physical interpretation of quantities and provide a step-by-step guide for performing calculations. In doing so, we show how GA offers insightful information on the physical meaning of the connection coefficients, the Riemann tensor, and other geometrical quantities.

Abstract:The physical interpretation of the exact solutions of the Einstein field equations is, in general, a challenging task, part of the difficulties lying in the significance of the coordinate system. We discuss the extension of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) reference system to the exact theory. It is seen that such an extension, retaining some of its crucial properties, can be achieved in a special class of spacetimes, admitting nonshearing congruences of observers which, at infinity, have zero vorticity and acceleration. As applications, we consider the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW), Kerr and Newman-Unti-Tamburino (NUT) spacetimes, the van Stockum rotating dust cylinder, spinning cosmic strings and, finally, we debunk the so-called Balasin-Grumiller (BG) model, and the claims that the galaxies' rotation curves can be explained through gravitomagnetic effects without the need for dark matter. The BG spacetime is shown to be completely inappropriate as a galactic model: its dust is actually static with respect to the asymptotic inertial frame, its gravitomagnetic effects arise from unphysical singularities along the axis (a pair of NUT rods, combined with a spinning cosmic string), and the rotation curves obtained are merely down to an invalid choice of reference frame -- the congruence of zero angular momentum observers, which are being dragged by the singularities.

Abstract:We simulated spin-spin interactions of $N$-bodies in linearized General Relativity (GR) and linearized Massive Gravity of the Fierz-Pauli type (mGR). It was noted earlier that there is a discrete difference between the spin-spin interaction potential in GR and mGR for a $2$-body system, akin to the van Dam-Veltman-Zakharov discontinuity in the static Newton's potential. Specifically, at large distances, GR favors anti-parallel spin orientation with total spin pointing along the interaction axis, while mGR favors parallel spin orientation with total spin perpendicular to the axis between the sources. For an $N$-body system, a simulation in mGR hitherto has not been done and one would like to know the total spin of the system in both theories. Here we remedy this. In the simulations of GR, we observed that the total spin tends to decrease from a random initial configuration, while for mGR with a large distance, the total spin increases.

Abstract:The dynamics of particles with intrinsic angular momentum (spin) described by the Dirac equation is considered in a homogeneous space with rotation in the presence of a homogeneous vortex gravitational field. The effects of the interaction between the spin of Dirac particles and the vortex gravitational field, as well as a possible mechanism for the appearance of an inertial mass, which is inextricably linked, as shown, with the spin of particles, are revealed. A geometric interpretation of the uncertainty principle is given.

Abstract:We argue that in the general relativistic calculation of planetary orbits, the choice of a reference frame which is an obligatory condition in the Newtonian approach is replaced by an appropriate boundary condition on the solution of Einstein equation. Abstract:We propose a consistent set of boundary conditions for gravity in asymptotically flat spacetime at spacelike infinity, which yields an enhancement of the Bondi-Metzner-Sachs group with smooth superrotations and new subleading symmetries. These boundary conditions are obtained by allowing fluctuations of the boundary structure which are responsible for divergences in the symplectic form, and a renormalisation procedure is required to obtain finite canonical generators. The latter are then made integrable by incorporating boundary terms into the symplectic structure, which naturally derive from a linearised spin-two boundary field on a curved background with positive cosmological constant. Finally, we show that the canonical generators form a non-linear algebra under the Poisson bracket and verify the consistency of this structure with the Jacobi identity.

Abstract:We present a spinning black hole solution in $d$ dimensions with a maximal number of rotation parameters in the context of the Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton theory. An interesting feature of such a solution is that it accommodates Lifshitz black holes when the rotation parameters are set to zero. We verify the rotating nature of the black hole solution by performing the quasi-local analysis of conserved charges and defining the corresponding angular momenta. In addition, we perform the thermodynamical analysis of the black hole configuration, show that the first law of thermodynamics is completely consistent, and obtain a Smarr-like formula. We further study the thermodynamic stability of the constructed solution from a local viewpoint, by computing the associated specific heats, and from a global perspective, by using the so-called new thermodynamic geometry. We finally make some comments related to a pathology found in the causal structure of the obtained rotating black hole spacetime and compute some of its curvature invariants.
