Abstract:We investigate chaotic and multi-fractal properties of a two parameter map of the unit interval onto itself -- the Kim-Kong map. These results are compared with similar properties in well known one parameter maps of the unit interval onto itself.

Abstract:We establish several new fractal and number theoretical phenomena connected with expansions which are generated by infinite linear iterated function systems. First of all we show that the systems $\Phi$ of cylinders of generalized Lüroth expansions are, generally speaking, not faithful for the Hausdorff dimension calculation. Using Yuval Peres' approach, we prove sufficient conditions for the non-faithfulness of such families of cylinders. On the other hand, rather general sufficient conditions for the faithfulness of such covering systems are also found. As a corollary of our main results, we obtain the non-faithfullness of the family of cylinders generated by the classical Lüroth expansion. Possible infinite entropy of the stochastic vector $Q_\infty$ which determines the metric relations for partitions of the generalized Lüroth expansions, possible non-faithfulness of the family $\Phi(Q_\infty)$ and the absence of general formulae for the calculation of the Hausdorff dimension even for probability measures with independent identically distributed symbols of generalized Lüroth expansions are all facts that do not allow to apply usual probabilistic methods, as well as methods of dynamical systems to study fractal properties of corresponding subsets of non-normal numbers. Despite of the above mentioned difficulties, we develop new approach to the study of subsets of $Q_\infty$-essentially non-normal numbers and prove (without any additional restrictions on the stochastic vector $Q_{\infty}$) that this set is superfractal. This result answers the open problem mentioned in \cite{AKNT2} and completes the metric, dimensional and topological classification of real numbers via the asymptotic behaviour of frequencies their digits in the generalized Lüroth expansion.

Multi-Valued Model for Generating Complex Chaos and Fractals

Abstract:Designing chaotic maps and fractal maps with rich dynamics in the complex field presents an interesting and challenging research topic. In this paper, we propose a novel approach called the one-dimensional multi-valued model (1D-MVM) for generating 1D complex chaotic and fractal maps by levering both single-valued and multi-valued functions. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the 1D-MVM, we present two 1D complex chaotic maps and one 1D fractal map as specific examples. Theoretical analysis confirms that the chaotic maps generated by the 1D-MVM exhibit chaotic behavior, while property analysis reveals that these chaotic maps possess hyperchaotic strange attractors, with their associated Lyapunov exponents being determined by specific system parameters. We also conduct extensive experiments to demonstrate the intricate dynamics and high performance indicators of the newly generated complex chaotic maps. A hardware platform is developed and the principal value attractors of these chaotic maps are experimentally captured. In addition, we explore the application of the hyperchaotic sequences generated by these complex chaotic maps to the pseudo-random number generators. Rigorous testing results validate the high degree of randomness exhibited by the generated pseudo-random numbers. Finally, we leverage the second branch of the 1D fractal map to generate a diverse range of fractal structures, further demonstrating the versatility and potential applications of the proposed approach.

Construction of Fractal Functions Using Kannan Mappings and Smoothness Analysis

Abstract:Let T be a self-map on a metric space (X, d). Then T is called the Kannan map if there exists \alpha, 0 < \alpha < 1/2, such that d(T(x), T(y)) <= \alpha[d(x, T(x)) + d(y, T(y))], for all x, y in X. This paper aims to introduce a new method to construct fractal functions using Kannan mappings. First, we give the rigorous construction of fractal functions with the help of the Kannan iterated function system (IFS). We also show the existence of a Borel probability measure supported on the attractor of the Kannan IFS satisfying the strong separation condition. Moreover, we study the smoothness of the constructed fractal functions. We end the paper with some examples and graphical illustrations.

Abstract:According to recent research, discrete-time fractional-order models have greater potential to investigate behaviors, and chaotic maps with fractional derivative values exhibit rich dynamics. This manuscript studies the dynamics of a new fractional chaotic map-based three functions. We analyze the behaviors in commensurate and incommensurate orders, revealing their impact on dynamics. Through the maximum Lyapunov exponent (LEmax), phase portraits, and bifurcation charts. In addition, we assess the complexity and confirm the chaotic features in the map using the approximation entropy ApEn and C0 complexity. Studies show that the commensurate and incommensurate derivative values influence the fractional chaotic map-based three functions, which exhibit a variety of dynamical behaviors, such as hidden attractors, asymmetry, and symmetry. Moreover, the new system's stabilizing employing a 3D nonlinear controller is introduced. Finally, our study validates the research results using the simulation MATLAB R2024a.

Abstract:It is well known that for a Brownian motion, if we change the medium to be inhomogeneous by a measure μ , then the new motion (the time-changed process) will diffuse according to a different metric D (·,·). In 2009, Kigami initiated a general scheme to construct such metrics through some self-similar weight functions g on the symbolic space. In order to provide concrete models to Kigami’s theoretical construction, in this paper, we give a thorough study of his metric on two classes of fractals of primary importance: the nested fractals and the generalized Sierpinski carpets; we assume further that the weight functions g ≔ g a are generated by “symmetric” weights a . Let M be the domain of a such that D ga defines a metric, and let S be the boundary of M . One of our main results is that the metrics from g a satisfy the metric chain condition if and only if a ∈ S. To determine M and S , we provide a recursive weight transfer construction on the nested fractals, and a basic symmetric argument on the Sierpinski carpet. As an application, we use the metric chain condition to obtain the lower estimate of the sub-Gaussian heat kernel. This together with the upper estimate obtained by Kigami allows us to have a concrete class of metrics for the time change, and the two-sided sub-Gaussian heat kernel estimate on the fundamental fractals.

Abstract:Under the assumption that a self-similar measure defined by a one-dimensional iterated function system with overlaps satisfies a family of second-order self-similar identities introduced by Strichartz et al., we obtain a method to discretize the equation defining the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the corresponding fractal Laplacian. This allows us to obtain numerical solutions by using the finite element method. We also prove that the numerical eigenvalues and eigenfunctions converge to the true ones, and obtain estimates for the rates of convergence. We apply this scheme to the fractal Laplacians defined by the well-known infinite Bernoulli convolution associated with the golden ratio and the 3-fold convolution of the Cantor measure. The iterated function systems defining these measures do not satisfy the open set condition or the post-critically finite condition; we use second-order self-similar identities to analyze the measures.

Abstract:One-dimensional maps exhibiting transient chaos and defined on two preimages of the unit interval [0,1] are investigated. It is shown that such maps have continuously many conditionally invariant measures $\mu_{\sigma}$ scaling at the fixed point at x=0 as $x^{\sigma}$, but smooth elsewhere. Here $\sigma$ should be smaller than a critical value $\sigma_{c}$ that is related to the spectral properties of the Frobenius-Perron operator. The corresponding natural measures are proven to be entirely concentrated on the fixed point.

Abstract:We analyze invariant measures of two coupled piecewise linear and everywhere expanding maps on the synchronization manifold. We observe that though the individual maps have simple and smooth functions as their stationary densities, they become multifractal as soon as two of them are coupled nonlinearly even with a small coupling. For some maps, the multifractal spectrum seems to be robust with the coupling or map parameters and for some other maps, there is a substantial variation. The origin of the multifractal spectrum here is intriguing as it does not seem to conform to the existing theory of multifractal functions.

Abstract:In this paper, various chaotic properties and their relationships for interval maps are discussed. It is shown that the proximal relation is an equivalence relation for any zero entropy interval map. The structure of the set of $f$-nonseparable pairs is well demonstrated and so is its relationship to Li-Yorke chaos. For a zero entropy interval map, it is shown that a pair is a sequence entropy pair if and only if it is $f$-nonseparable. Moreover, some equivalent conditions of positive entropy which relate to the number "3" are obtained. It is shown that for an interval map if it is topological null, then the pattern entropy of every open cover is of polynomial order, answering a question by Huang and Ye when the space is the closed unit interval.

Abstract:Picard iteration is on the basis of a great number of numerical methods and applications of mathematics. However, it has been known since the 1950s that this method of fixed-point approximation may not converge in the case of nonexpansive mappings. In this paper, an extension of the concept of nonexpansiveness is presented in the first place. Unlike the classical case, the new maps may be discontinuous, adding an element of generality to the model. Some properties of the set of fixed points of the new maps are studied. Afterwards, two iterative methods of fixed-point approximation are analyzed, in the frameworks of b-metric and Hilbert spaces. In the latter case, it is proved that the symmetrically averaged iterative procedures perform well in the sense of convergence with the least number of operations at each step. As an application, the second part of the article is devoted to the study of fractal mappings on Hilbert spaces defined by means of nonexpansive operators. The paper considers fractal mappings coming from φ-contractions as well. In particular, the new operators are useful for the definition of an extension of the concept of α-fractal function, enlarging its scope to more abstract spaces and procedures. The fractal maps studied here have quasi-symmetry, in the sense that their graphs are composed of transformed copies of itself.

Abstract:Fractals, Ahead of Print. Local fractional calculus theory and parameterized method have greatly assisted in the advancement of the field of inequalities. To continue its enrichment, this study investigates the multi-parameter fractal–fractional integral inequalities containing the fractal [math]-convex functions. Initially, we formulate the new conception of the fractal [math]-convex functions and work on a variety of properties. Through the assistance of the fractal–fractional integrals, the [math]-fractal identity with multiple parameters is established, and from that, integral inequalities are inferred regarding twice fractal differentiable functions which are fractal [math]-convex. Furthermore, a few typical and novel outcomes are discussed and visualized for specific parameter values, separately. It concludes with some applications in respect of the special means, the quadrature formulas and random variable moments, respectively.

Interval maps mimicking circle rotations

Abstract:We investigate the dynamics of maps of the real line whose behavior on an invariant interval is close to a rational rotation on the circle. We concentrate on a specific two-parameter family, describing the dynamics arising from models in game theory, mathematical biology and machine learning. If one parameter is a rational number, $k/n$, with $k,n$ coprime, and the second one is large enough, we prove that there is a periodic orbit of period $n$. It behaves like an orbit of the circle rotation by an angle $2\pi k/n$ and attracts trajectories of Lebesgue almost all starting points. We also discover numerically other interesting phenomena. While we do not give rigorous proofs for them, we provide convincing explanations.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the scaling invariance of survival probability in the Caputo fractional standard map of the order $1<\alpha<2$ considered on a cylinder. We consider relatively large values of the nonlinearity parameter $K$ for which the map is chaotic. The survival probability has a short plateau followed by an exponential decay and is scaling invariant for all considered values of $\alpha$ and $K$.

The bifurcation structure within robust chaos for two-dimensional piecewise-linear maps

Abstract:We study two-dimensional, two-piece, piecewise-linear maps having two saddle fixed points. Such maps reduce to a four-parameter family and are well known to have a chaotic attractor throughout open regions of parameter space. The purpose of this paper is to determine where and how this attractor undergoes bifurcations. We explore the bifurcation structure numerically by using Eckstein's greatest common divisor algorithm to estimate from sample orbits the number of connected components in the attractor. Where the map is orientation-preserving the numerical results agree with formal results obtained previously through renormalisation. Where the map is orientation-reversing or non-invertible the same renormalisation scheme appears to generate the bifurcation boundaries, but here we need to account for the possibility of some stable low-period solutions. Also the attractor can be destroyed in novel heteroclinic bifurcations (boundary crises) that do not correspond to simple algebraic constraints on the parameters. Overall the results reveal a broadly similar component-doubling bifurcation structure in the orientation-reversing and non-invertible settings, but with some additional complexities.

Abstract:We study multifractal properties in time evolution of a single particle subject to repeated measurements. For quantum systems, we consider circuit models consisting of local unitary gates and local projective measurements. For classical systems, we consider models for estimating the trajectory of a particle evolved under local transition processes by partially measuring particle occupations. In both cases, multifractal behaviors appear in the ensemble of wave functions or probability distributions conditioned on measurement outcomes after a sufficiently long time. While the nature of particle transport (diffusive or ballistic) qualitatively affects the multifractal properties, they are even quantitatively robust to the measurement rate or specific protocols. On the other hand, multifractality is generically lost by generalized measurements allowing erroneous outcomes or by postselection of the outcomes with no particle detection. We demonstrate these properties by numerical simulations and also propose several simplified models, which allow us to analytically obtain multifractal properties in the monitored single-particle systems.

Abstract:We study Markov multi-maps of the interval from the point of view of topological dynamics. Specifically, we investigate whether they have various properties, including topological transitivity, topological mixing, dense periodic points, and specification. To each Markov multi-map, we associate a shift of finite type (SFT), and then our main results relate the properties of the SFT with those of the Markov multi-map. These results complement existing work showing a relationship between the topological entropy of a Markov multi-map and its associated SFT. We also characterize when the inverse limit systems associated to the Markov multi-maps have the properties mentioned above.

Geometric and Combinatorial Properties of Self-similar Multifractal Measures

Abstract:For any self-similar measure $\mu$ in $\mathbb{R}$, we show that the distribution of $\mu$ is controlled by products of non-negative matrices governed by a finite or countable graph depending only on the IFS. This generalizes the net interval construction of Feng from the equicontractive finite type case. When the measure satisfies the weak separation condition, we prove that this directed graph has a unique attractor. This allows us to verify the multifractal formalism for restrictions of $\mu$ to certain compact subsets of $\mathbb{R}$, determined by the directed graph. When the measure satisfies the generalized finite type condition with respect to an open interval, the directed graph is finite and we prove that if the multifractal formalism fails at some $q\in\mathbb{R}$, there must be a cycle with no vertices in the attractor. As a direct application, we verify the complete multifractal formalism for an uncountable family of IFSs with exact overlaps and without logarithmically commensurable contraction ratios.

Abstract:In 2018, Erdal Karapinar introduced the concept of interpolative Kannan operators, a novel adaptation of the Kannan mapping originally defined in 1969 by Kannan. This new mapping condition is more lenient than the basic contraction condition. In this paper, we study the concept by introducing the IKC-iterated function/multi-function system using interpolative Kannan operators, including a broader area of mappings. Moreover, we establish the Collage Theorem endowed with the iterated function system (IFS) based on the IKC, and show the well-posedness of the IKC-IFS. Interpolative Kannan contractions are meaningful due to their applications in fractals, offering a more versatile framework for creating intricate geometric structures with potentially fewer constraints compared to classical approaches.
