Abstract:These lectures provide a basic overview of topics related to the study of CP Violation in B decays. In the first lecture, I review the basics of discrete symmetries in field theories, the quantum mechanics of neutral but flavor-non-trivial mesons, and the classification of three types of CP violation. The actual second lecture which I gave will be separately published as it is my Dirac award lecture and is focussed on the separate topic of strong CP Violation. In Lecture 2 here, I cover the Standard Model predictions for neutral B decays, and in particular discuss some channels of interest for CP Violation studies. Lecture 3 reviews the various tools and techniques used to deal with the hadronic physics effects. In Lecture 4, I briefly review the present and planned experiments that can study B decays. I cannot teach all the details of this subject in this short course, so my approach is instead to try to give students a grasp of the relevant concepts and an overview of the available tools. The level of these lectures is introductory. I will provide some references to more detailed treatments and current literature, but this is not a review article so I do not attempt to give complete references to all related literature. By now there are some excellent textbooks that cover this subject in great detail. I refer students to these for more details and for more complete references to the original literature.

Abstract:These lectures review the progress made in our present understanding of $B$ decays. The emphasis here is on applications of QCD to $B$ decays and the attendant perturbative and non-perturbative uncertainties, which limit present theoretical precision in some cases but the overall picture that emerges is consistent with the standard model (SM). This is illustrated by quantitatively analyzing some of the key measurements in $B$ physics.

Abstract:These proceedings provide a brief overview of the status of $B$ meson physics, putting particular emphasis on precision tests of the Standard Model with meson mixing data, and on the anomalies in charged- and neutral-current semileptonic $B$ decays. Abstract:We discuss the main issues in dealing with heavy quarks on the lattice and shortly present the different approaches used. We discuss a selection of computations covering first the b-quark mass and the B(s) meson decay constants as the consolidated results (neglecting isospin breaking corrections). In the second part we consider recent calculations of form factors for tree-level semileptonic decays with emphasis on the tensions between the results produced by different collaborations. We propose benchmark quantities and tests suited to investigate the origin of such tensions. Finally, we review computations of the bag parameters parameterising neutral meson mixing and provide an overview on a few recent developments in the field.

Abstract:This is a quick review of CP non-conservation in $B$ physics. Several methods are described for testing the Kobayashi-Maskawa single phase origin of CP violation in B decays, pointing out some limitations due to hadronic uncertainties. Abstract:B-hadron physics plays a fundamental role to test and improve our understanding of flavor dynamics within and beyond the Standard Model. Of particular phenomenological interest are beauty hadron lifetime ratios and, width differences and semileptonic CP-asymmetries in B_d and B_s systems. We discuss their theoretical predictions which, in the last years, have been improved thanks to accurate lattice calculations of operator matrix elements and perturbative computations of Wilson coefficients.

Abstract:This physics book provides detailed discussions on important topics in $\tau$-charm physics that will be explored during the next few years at \bes3 . Both theoretical and experimental issues are covered, including extensive reviews of recent theoretical developments and experimental techniques. Among the subjects covered are: innovations in Partial Wave Analysis (PWA), theoretical and experimental techniques for Dalitz-plot analyses, analysis tools to extract absolute branching fractions and measurements of decay constants, form factors, and CP-violation and \DzDzb-oscillation parameters. Programs of QCD studies and near-threshold tau-lepton physics measurements are also discussed.

Abstract:Fermionic unparticles are introduced and their basic properties are discussed. Some phenomenologies related are exploited, such as their effects on charged Higgs boson decays and anomalous magnetic moments of leptons. Also, it has been found that measurements of B0–B¯0 mixing could yield interesting constraints on couplings between unparticle operators and Standard Model fields.

Abstract:The B-meson system is an interesting probe for the exploration of strong interactions, the quark-flavour sector of the Standard Model, and the search for new physics. In this programme, non-leptonic B decays, which are particularly challenging from the point of view of QCD, play a key role. After discussing strategies to deal with the corresponding hadronic matrix elements of four-quark operators and popular avenues for new physics to manifest itself in B decays, we focus on puzzling patterns in the B-factory data for B -> pi pi, pi K decays; we explore their implications for hadron physics, new physics and rare K and B decays.

Abstract:These lectures explain that comparisons between experiment and theory can expose the impact of running couplings and masses on hadron observables and thereby aid materially in charting the momentum dependence of the interaction that underlies strong-interaction dynamics. The series begins with a primer on continuum QCD, which introduces some of the basic ideas necessary in order to understand the use of Schwinger functions as a nonperturbative tool in hadron physics. It continues with a discussion of confinement and dynamical symmetry breaking (DCSB) in the Standard Model, and the impact of these phenomena on our understanding of condensates, the parton structure of hadrons, and the pion electromagnetic form factor. The final lecture treats the problem of grand unification; namely, the contemporary use of Schwinger functions as a symmetry-preserving tool for the unified explanation and prediction of the properties of both mesons and baryons. It reveals that DCSB drives the formation of diquark clusters in baryons and sketches a picture of baryons as bound-states with Borromean character. Planned experiments are capable of validating the perspectives outlined in these lectures.

Abstract:In this talk I give an introduction to methods used to give a model independent description of QCD effects in B-decays. I discuss three useful expansions: mb/mW << 1 for the electroweak Hamiltonian, LambdaQCD/mb << 1 for Heavy Quark Effective theory, and LambdaQCD/Q << 1 for the Soft-Collinear Effective Theory where Q ~ mb is the large energy of light final state hadrons. I discuss predictions that can be made with each expansion.

Abstract:In this proceeding we will review the current theoretical status of rare $B$ decays. These decays are indeed excellent indirect probes for New Physics searches, and in the current situation where no new states have been directly observed at collider, they provide a fundamental and alternative approach in the quest for Physics beyond the Standard Model. We will focus on the following classes of decays: $B_q\to\tau\nu$, $B_q\to\mu\mu$, $B\to K^{(*)}\nu\bar\nu$, $B\to K^{(*)}\ell\ell$, $B_s\to\phi\ell\ell$ and $b\to s\gamma$. The most updated Standard Model predictions will be provided, highlighting which are the main sources of uncertainty, and what is the possibility for New Physics effects when confronting the theory numbers to current experimental results.
